Brad Smith I have bedroom set that Mom bought in 1945, with allotment money she got from army when dad was overseas in Ww2. I got it as a teen in the 60's. The my brother used it for his children and I now have it back. It wasn't the finest quality, but it has survived decades of use by family members. I love it and it holds a lot of memories for me.

If it hadn't been touched in 70 years, then it most definitely would require rewiring and likely plumbing. And, if there is a full rewire and plumbing job done, then know it will be expensive to get rid of asbestos and lead paint.

    • @coolhead8686
      @coolhead8686 Před 4 lety

Not possible to have not touched in 70 years. Especially if it is in Canada where the weather is harsh during winter. The realtors are either bad realtors or very dishonest people. For example, the roof would have gave up in about 10 years. Next, the heating system would have gave up in about 20 years. Last, the cast iron plumbing would have gave up in about 50 years.

We purchased a home from a former university president, living in it three years before moving out of state. Last week our son, when checking on property, said the garage had broken windows, holes punched in walls, and other damage done by the college-aged tenants that Husband rented to. A nice single family unit, in which son called home has lost value. And I have lost respect for Husband who allowed this type of renters to have domain over a place I considered sacred, and to use it as a dormitory/party place.

Just because you're out early doesn't mean you can't take care of yourself or your home.
My great-grandmother at the time was 74 years old and she raised 4 Generations including me and my siblings..(my brother was in second grade I was in first and my sister was only 3 years old she raised us until we were all of age)..
On Mondays she went to the market on Tuesdays she got her hair done (she walked) and on Wednesdays she did laundry ..on Thursdays she would go visit her sister.... And Fridays she cleaned the house top from bottom she would scrub the floors on her hands and knees she vacuumed dusted and clean the windows and mirrors never once did she ever ask for help... Every single morning she made her bed and fixed breakfast for all of us... On Saturdays (every single Saturday growing up) she would call a cab and we would go downtown to the mall we would shop for a bit (btw we always ended up with a new toy of some sort) and then we would go to McDonald's that was the only time we ever ate out. Sundays we went to church and relaxed when we got home...
Monday through Saturday she would have a homemade dinner we usually had some sort of meat two side dishes, salad , applesauce ,cottage cheese, bread and butter, milk and tea.. believe it or not on Sunday it was even a bigger dinner... Whatever we had leftover throughout the week she would always share with our neighbors..
My nan hardly ever got sick I don't think I ever remember a time when she was ill she was never on medication she never had any type of health problems.. she had an excellent heart her hearing & eye sight was good..and mentally she never had any kinds of problems..
My grandmother did everything on her own..well almost everything she did have somebody shovel her walks in the winter and cut her grass in the summer my brother usually did that job... She took out her own trash messed around in the garden and took very good care of all her plants...she always .scrubbed the floors by hand along with some of her clothes.. and would hang them out to dry.. In the warm months we always took long walks...
My grandmother was a very strong person you knew if she liked you or not she spoke her mind she grew up in the depression so she can make a penny go a long way...we never wanted for anything we always had school clothes church clothes shoes a warm place to sleep ..food in her stomach and we knew we would be safe that she would protect us...we were in school activities along with church activities...girl scouts..and we would go on vacation every year..(usually flordia, where my grandma lived my Nan's daughter)..
My nan was stricked but she had to be she raised four generations and she had to make sure that we were all strong and able to care for ourselves once we got into the real world... She was an extraordinary woman and I admire her hard work..and the love she had for her family...she never asked for money from anyone she raised us on her income (my great grandfather's pension and hers along with social security) I don't know how she did it..but she did...and she never took money from the government!
Clear up to my Nan's last week of life she was mentally competent..(99 years young) she had gotten sick (I think the first time in her life) she was hospitalized during that week she got a little bit weaker every day she went in on a Monday and by the following Monday she passed away.... thankfully I was there..my mother was there and so was her daughter my grandma...... It was sad as we didn't think she would die but her heart was weak the doctor said she was just old and tired...she was ready to meet her maker and to be with my pop pop (her husband) ....
I think if we had more people like her this world would be a better place...I know it would be stronger and a lot more self-reliant.... She was a great woman who worked hard all her life end never took anything for granted...
I pray that I can be half the person she was at her age... She lived for 99 years there wasn't a lazy bone in her body...she knew what it meant to work, to love and to live..
I will always miss you Nan and one day I will see you again...I just wish my son could have met you...you rasied 4 generations you put our needs and wants before your own and you taught us all what it means to be a parent ... To live life with Grace and dignity and respecting others...thank you... thank you... thank you...
Love you to the moon and back... trillions of times over...

Gone are the days where women really put themself out, waiting on their family, and caring for the kids. That generation knew responsibility, something that has become a by gone era, replaced by the me - generation. Now it's an all - about - me attitude. My needs first, and forget everybody else. One can also note, our grandmother's generation was Christians, and were taught to do until others as you would have them do unto you, and Proverbs, a righteous woman is it before day light preparing the meals. Truly, when looking at what replaced them, those were "the good old days." Nowadays, they're doing good if the mother isn't high or drunk, and is actually in the home with the kids.

Children just don't understand that you don't get an award just because you were on a team..and that you only played on that team if you were good enough... parents can't take the time to spend one on one time with their child now a days...it's sad...

The house hadn't been touched for 70 years? Assuming the images are actually of the house in question, neither the interior nor the windows appear to date from the '40s.

Might not be the latest interior decoration fashion trends, but look at how well kept and cared for it is! Not my taste either, but despite it looking so very sweet, pastelly and girly, even I as a man value, and see the beauty. The house is really a reflection of the mind of the inhabitant.

OR Scrub it's the lady's home it's what she liked. What is too much fluff? She has good taste, today people are just too mediocre and most have no class, they just want something big and stupid that doesn't last as long as a snow cone. Compliment the lady for being able to keep it in such good condition, I'd rather what's in there than some of the junk that's sold these days.

Maybe she did, and they actually helped her by coming over and doing laundry, cleaning, along with grocery day. It's not unheard of, but it's getting more rare to see the adult children taking responsibility for their elderly parents. Her children would most likely be in their 70's, so I would say grandchildren in their 40's. My brother cares for my elderly parents, does literally everything for them, and have seen how rare it is, as other elderly people never see their children, and the do nothing to help them. My own daughter has not lifted a finger to help me, cancer treatments came and went, moved still doing it all myself, not even a phone call from her. The nation is paying for the antichrist-ian attitudes we have allowed to creep in.
