can you make my design of a valve an entire maze for water to get thru it is probably not a valve but a way to tired the tsunami because it takes so long going left right wave reflected back into its self slowing it down when it hits a dead ends

The people in the first building that _doesn't_ come down.
Take my money😀
14:10 the reason the buildings started disappearing is because the zoning didn't get copied
@Evi1 M4chine The elevation of the original copied buildings was virtually flat, he pasted it onto a sloped ground which caused the existing topography to be overwritten by the buildings. When the buildings disappear, the land goes back to its original topography.
This indeed!
I love that the total lack of good water simulation in city builder games has driven us to further and further heights of madness in Cities: Skylines and Timberborners as Matt attempts to find some kind of good explanation for how the water works and how to deal with it
a game that has "decent" water simulation is crazy machines 2 and its liquid addon
@Evi1 M4chine most real time fluid simulations are basically "metaballs" (spheres that merge partially if they are close enough to kiss) connected to its neighbours with springs. I wonder if there is any game with better fluid physics for Matt to go bonkers with.
@Evi1 M4chine most games use the preex water physics e.g from Unity or unreal engine with slight chances in shading, looks and performance. Actually designing real water physics is not possible w todays PCs in realtime since there are a lot more factors involved additionally to the base physical laws you have for non liquids/gas
@@neirenoir true realtime water physics rendering would be like raytracing.
1:28 Yes but the Shaft of Hope survived! It stood erect against a mighty force, a rigid rod of resilience from the wall of wetness that enveloped it.

I must have slept through the lesson on "Sacrificial Cities" in design classes.
Clearly.
down here in south lousiana we call that the 9th ward its where all the minorities live.
Well I mean that solves both problems doesn't it? Folks complained the tsunami defense was blocking the ocean view - well if the ocean view property is the tsunami defense then there you go. From the top down view it also looks like you only need about 10 rows of the PS5 buildings to eat the wave and only 7.5 need to be rebuilt every wave - so it is economical too.
For the low price of a couple hundred PS5s you too can block out the next tsunami!

The high density buildings are better for blockin waves, but they didnt bugger off as fast as the low density folks did and the hills they replaced their homes with were much better than any of the low or high density buildings at blockin water
I used to go to Niagara Falls quite often, and it’s been interesting how increased high-rise development on the Canadian side has radically changed the local patterns of wind Now the winds which used to drop spray in the gorge are sucked to the Canadian side.

You could do this exact same test, but separate each section of district/buildings with a long, thin line of terrain running in the same direction as the wave. That way you could see the speed and spread of the wave in each section in isolation without the waves dispersing into surrounding areas. Think your Tesla thing, but with buildings instead of swoopy bits.
Edit: I forgot to mention you need to add a section of only bouncy castles. Because nothing screams "Matt is a well balanced individual" like stopping a tsunami with a bunch of bouncy castles.
I like how the deflection PS5 buildings worked better than the massive mount deflectors RCE built in a previous video.
"Now I know how Paddy feels"
Was really unexpected, it got me very well.
Sorry Paddy.
Great video as always by the way!!!
I love this…He’s secretly making us learn to be Civil Engineers and honestly I don’t mind
i would prefered Architecture or how to design a nice looking building that isnt like the strongest shape.
But who knows?
5:08 "Can you actually imagine city built entirely like that?"
Soviet-style prefab blocks: "Am I joke to you?"
In Soviet Russia, you are joke to buildings.
they actually had quite a lot of sunlight and parks and nature and stuff, the commie block is the only good thing about the ussr i can think of
@@makimaki500 Yeah, but commie blocks are good as neighborhood (good transport, everything in walking distance), but their quality in really bad - for example walls are thin and people hear eachother. Commie blocks are also pretty ugly- it's begging to change, but still they are far from being sightseeing attraction. But yes, they aren't as bad as most of people describe them

I think a good test with the special buildings would be to do the alternating pattern like you did with the one that succeeded.
Also, I would love to see if the pattern made the difference, or just the buildings.
I'm loving this "Messing with water physics" season of RCE
The headquaters of engineering seems like a architectural masterpiece.
Ah yes, a Josh reference. Matt has reached a level of chaos many ore scared of
4:16 I've cycled along the side of that picture you used- good video as usual!
Day 8 of asking RCE to start a satisfactory series
Hes not just the engineer the world wants, hes the engineer the world needs!
I am loving seeing the Arch in these videos so much
Thank you for asking the important questions with another fun tsunami video!
I don’t know why but this tsunami stuff really has me hooked. I definitely feel more prepare for any tsunamis that I may be a part of in the future. Thank you for this service.
Df just recently said;
"If you want precision engineering, you're in the wrong place"
Now i want a collab between real civil engineer and dangerously funny :0
now I understand why the town hall is in the middle of most towns, it's so that the tsunamis and forest fires get slowed down enough and can't take out the town hall, therefore preventing them from three staring your base
0:35 1:15 I didnt know that the Seattle Space Needle was such an amazing feat of engineering.
What about a maze? Of course done in a strongest shape ever!
Everytime the RCE uploads one of the tsunami videos I image what the "people" tell their friends when the move there.
"Yeah, we move to this new aspiring city. Beautiful neighborhood, good schools and universities around, a giant tsunami wave bigger than every skyscraper brutally comming our way. Such a nice place."
😂😂😂
Ever time RCE posts a city skyline video the Dev’s have to question the physics they put in the game and how they can improve the physics for the next game . RCE should become consultant for the dev team.
Fun fact about the Sydney Harbour Bridge that I learned while I was there for work...
The pillars are purely cosmetic/used for viewing the scenery.
The way the bridge was built, it doesn't need them - the 4 pillars were added because the general population didn't believe the engineers that created it.
We would all love to see you play Crazy Lemmings!! You’d love it!
Love your videos Matt!
Matt, you can get proper cities with high density residential and commercial if you up the land value, you need all the services and parks and stuff and they'll upgrade the building, I'm sure there's a mod for it too where you can just max the land value
It's funny that you used the business park and space needle, because those two have been the unique buildings that have always irked me. Mostly because the business park is modeled after the St. Louis Gateway Arch, standing at a whopping 630 ft tall... 25 feet taller than the 605 ft. tall Seattle Space Needle.
These videos are AWESOME
I really love your series on Tsunamis
Would love to see the skyscrapers completely stopping the tsunami in the next vid!

Woot new episode. My boys are gonna be excited
Yay more tsunami videos
In the next tsunami defense video:
Skyscrapers in the Tesla Valve.
That went way better than it had any right to, honestly. GG that one building in particular!
But you know this means you have to make a wall of that building and see how it does, see how few layers you can get away with and still have adequate tsunami protection, right? I mean, we have to follow this to the logical conclusion, right?
THOSE ARCHES ARE PURE ARCHITECTURE
I'm sure you're running out of ideas for this (series?) but I really enjoy these. Every time I see one of these types of vids I'm like yes it's not over lol. Keep it up!
I love that you mentioned Josh. Verbal favourite youtubers crossover! 😂
GOD!!! Why are you videos so good
I’m beginning to think that Matt’s “most efficient shape” antics are verging on architecture… just a thought 👀
This screams: “Some of you may die, but it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.”
The 2:45 pylons joke got me. Really wasn't expecting a sc2 joke which made it so much funnier. And if it wasn't intentional, it was still good
You have got to do the ultimate tsunami defence with just skyscrapers next!!! 🤣🤣
Awesome!
I live this life only for your skyline tsunami videos😂
And also finding about how you will bring up strongest shape o|o each time ….

i love the tsunami vids
at the end of this video, RCE said tsunami aren't a danger against big city, thats not actually the case, the water pressure caused by the wave on the buildings would make them collapse. not talking about the other debris the wave take with them.
Welp that is what it will happen to buildings made like in new york.
But coastal city like tokyo are usually made stronger.
I like this series.
Love how STL is getting some love (un-intentionally), the arch is never talked about!
Time to surround a city with those skyscrapers to see if that will protect it

fun fact, The pylons of the sydney harbour bridge were not part of the original design, and were only added to allay public concern about the structural integrity of the bridge. They were originally added to the bridge solely for their aesthetic value
Please never stop teaching me engineering with this game
I did the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb a few years back and our guide explained that, in actuality, the pylons on either side provide no structural support at all. They were commissioned solely to give the labourers 3 weeks extra work during the Great Depression.
Not sure about that reason, but they’re definitely not holding up the bridge.
This is great
One of the glitches had your road pattern look like a slightly raised grid, and the water was trapped in between them almost like a fish hatchery. That gives me some ideas for a future video
As an engineer myself, these new forms of energy dissipators are very innovating, I'm thinking on incorporating into my designs! Thanks RCE! Now I gotta add these new details to autocad lol you have my rubber stamp of approval sir!
Your comment in earlier with buildings in flood and protection testing? It is actually a major field of study, particularly in US. The famous US plantation style homes? Designed for flooding. Very little on first floor and water can pass through, with second floor being where you live. Even smaller homes with this design. Other countries also have own designs.
Funny thing, buildings are designed to allow water flow in these flood designs to reduce stress on the structure. Having buildings keep standing so people who cannot get to high ground can stay safe.
love your videos :)
Architecture for the win!!!
you should know that the 4 pillars of the sidney harbor bridge are indeed just decoration^^
the best outcome from this series is an engine overhaul that improves CSL water physics
Matt vs Tsunami in City Skylines is the equivalent of Einstein vs the theory of the universe. Its a never ending battle
Intercom message from building manager : "recommend get your car out of the basement..........'cause there is a Typhoon/Tsunami coming". Car owners never heard from again. This really happened, this year.
Thinking back to when I found this s channel. First episode or two were good but kinda dry, and then the strongest shape reveal was the funniest thing ever.
For the future, the electric roads mod makes it so you can have water pipes also carry power, making it super easy to connect up cities and you don't need to worry about connecting power!
I just want to think you for this because that part always fustrated me since I would regularly make an windmill feild that was in the distance in order to not cause polution or the like and then trail a huge line of powerlines back to the city
The most recent 81 Tiles mod includes this functionality now.
I think this needs to be redone with a more game-realistic tsunami (i.e., not a massive 500 meter high wall of water, but one ones that are more likely to spawn in game that are about the height of medium density buildings).
You might be more surprised by the results, since buildings _clearly_ have an effect on water.
I was about to say u were like josh, but you mentioned him, u guys are my favorite youtubers
I love the design of the engineering HQ, it's a masterpiece, gotta protect those arches hahahahaha, that's not good lol
RCE, you should build a massive wall of those wide sky scrapers in that pattern to protect another city!
This took overkill to a whole new lvl
Matt… you should collaborate with josh from let’s game it out and you should see who can build a more efficient city
"That's just a casual Friday night, innit?"
Aye, brother!
I want to see an edit of a nascar race where it’s just Matt’s “whoa” at 3:13 for the car sounds
Level the terrain going all the way back back so the wave doesn't lose size as it travels. That way you can get a better idea of how effective your builds are against the full strengh of the tsunami
Let's be honest we all want to put the strongest shape to the ultimate test. Can the strongest shape defend against tsunamis???
11:18 don't worry, I don't think that fire is going to be a problem for much longer...
I just realized how frequently I watch you play this game. I'm 40, I don't think I'll ever play this game. I am an engineer, mechanical/electrical/software, but yeah. This is stupid and frivilous and honestly, I love it.
So the heart of engineering is some sort of architectural project
Imagine some dystopian future, you are moved to a skyscrapper next to the beach, you think "what a great view!" then you learn the truth, you're just tsunami fodder that will protect the skycrappers of the rich people behind yours.
This is the greatest channel on CZcams.
Nice work. Though...this makes me want you to test how many complete rows of those High Interest skyscrapers would be needed to keep your city dry.
