Follow-up: this video was spot on. Mine was scraping the bottom, so I moved it all the way up, then halfway down to split the difference. The good news is - that resolved the problem. The bad news is - I way over-torqued the bottom screw and broke the shaft inside. So, I need to drill and tap out the broken screw and replace it with a new one.... and not go full retard strength on it next time around.
Thanks I’m gonna check my mine tomorrow. Makes a lot of sense being that I just took the spare off because it had a nail in it, and set it in the back floor of the jeep, and noticed that the rattle had gone away, probably because there was no weight on the tailgate!
