I love my 2020 Explorer ST but it’s currently at Ford once again. I’ve had so many problems with my ST that lost count on how many times I’ve taken it back to Ford. Had the axle replaced, lots of electrical issues, and now my car rolls after I put it in park. Probably going to get rid of it at the end of the warranty but I still really like driving it and it’s perfect for my family. Thanks for posting this video!

I will argue that there is not many nice SUV's with performance features. The Lincoln aviator is very nice looking SUV and has the same power train as the explorer ST. Is fast and very stylist
I found the explorer to be lacking quality build, especially the interior. Too much plastic for the amount tof cash they ask for

I had the carplay issue on my 2020 ST as well! I actually got it fixed through carmax warranty, the Ford dealer had to replace the APIC chip I think it's called. It's basically the infotainment computer. EDIT: Another thing about carmax warranty - it's only $3000 and they provide loaner cars during any time your car is out overnight for warranty work. EDIT2: Wow that warranty offer from Ford actually sounds incredible. Great score, hope you have no issues. I've had a lot of problems with my ST however no engine/transmission problems yet, fingers crossed!

My ST is having issues with trying to shift to park while I'm driving down the interstate while doing 75mph. Its happened to me three times now. Once while taking off from a red light and it almost caused me to get rear ended. The second I was on interstate like I said doing 75mph, that was interesting. Took it in and they said they fixed it. 2 weeks later my son and I were on our way to pick up my sick wife in the ER and it did it again and left us stranded in the middle of the road. We had to walk home and get the chevy! This is so crazy! 2 weeks later ford said its fixed, they told us in person all they did was clear codes because they couldnt figure anything out! I feel your pain!

    • @eight16garage

Yours almost sounds worse with random attempts to shift to park. Love the car but not the issues. Probably wouldn't own it without a warranty. Car has been doing fine for the most part since this fix. Every once in a while it'll have a weird shift but nothing like before.

Trans fluid level is very critical in these 10R60's and many people have reported it being underfilled from the factory. Check it with the fluid up to temp (210F) and make sure it's no lower than 3.5 on the dipstick. I swapped my fluid for HPL teal and fill it to 3 on the dipstick (5.5 quarts drain and fill)

It's a nice SUV but if you are considering one, I would highly recommend having some sort of warranty with it. When I bought the car the roof was partially wrapped (between the roof racks only). I removed it and wrapped/rewrapped everything the way it looks now. Went with 3m 2080 gloss black. The 3m vinyl was fairly easy to work with. Between the roof racks wasn't the most fun to wrap but the sides weren't bad.

Transmission Problems!!! Don’t know what it is, but we had a lot of problems with our 2006 Limited.
It was slipping and was so new, the Ford Engineers didn’t have a program to fix the problem. They had to write a program for specifically our vehicle.
We purchased the one driven by the Dealership’s owner.
It was his Demonstrator and had just turned over 2,000 miles.
After 4-5 programs they had to write back in Detroit, the transmission was better, but still seemed to slip from time to time.
It’s my daily and I love the vehicle. Yeah, it’s got 155,000 miles on it, but having the V8 seems to be a great engine, but used more gas than a GT 500.
It’s going to replace my 2006 for my daily driver and we’ll buy the wife a new one.
I like your 2020, it’s the V8 and I’d prefer it over the turbo.
Gas isn’t an issue as far as price. I don’t know what it’s like to drive a vehicle that gets over 18-20 MPG.
Heavy foot I believe is a bad habit to get good gas mileage!
The 2006 is lucky to get 14 MPG around town.
The 2020 you have starts out almost at $50,000 without optional equipment I think.
I haven’t priced one in great detail, only seen them on the lot.
Like you, I think it’s a great looking vehicle!
I saw a gray one about a month ago. Turns out, the son of the Owner of the Dealership is driving it. He’s now the owner of the dealership and his dad is retired.
As this Vlog was made several years ago, do you know if the current transmission is reliable?
Congratulations on getting that Extended Warranty. Sweet Seal, 7 years from the date and $100 deductible.
    I could live with that.
We tend to drive our Explorers until they quit or won’t pass inspection.
    Great Vlog!
    Again, your garage looks fantastic.
If I had and critique, I like individual garage doors that are 12 feet wide. My two 18 foot doors and a 12 foot door are ok, but I’d have five 12 foot doors. Yeah, it would be a very wide garage or perhaps two areas to break them up, but I like the space you get between vehicles. The doors then are not close to hit the other cars.

    • @eight16garage
      @eight16garage  Před rokem

Thanks for the kind words on the garage. I do take a lot of pride in keeping my clean and organized. Like you said, I would prefer individual garage doors as well for the space between the vehicles but 90% of these cookie cutter homes here are built this way.
I'm not sure what the root cause is for the transmission problems on these Explorers. It seems like the issue was fixed after the 2020 model year for the most part. Since the fix on this one I haven't had any issues yet. Keeping my fingers crossed that it lasts a little bit longer this time around. I'd like to just hang on to this one for a while and drive it until it falls apart.

I have a '20 ST, I bought it in Aug '19. I like the vehicle but last week getting a new front axle, CV joint was my 37th trip to the dealership since its purchase. Had issues with the transmission, transfer case, exhaust, climate system, entertainment system, driver assistant 4X, including an AWD module, and more. In '21 loaner cars dried up and to date I have spent over 2K on rental cars. I realize buying a first year new from the ground up car is not smart but their poor quality and service has broken my spirit. Pretty sure this is my last Ford product.

First really nice Spring evening today so I took my 22 ST out, rolled down the windows and opened to moon roof. I had it in Sport and was driving it fairly easy, I noticed the transmission was jerking hard and the shifts were not consistent. I pulled over to stop and immediately smelled something burning, wasn't oil, wasn't coolant... so yeah probably the trans. I already have an appointment at Ford tomorrow for the drivers side door handle plastic peeling off, the passenger seat adjustments are not responding to the inputs, there is a rattle coming from the top of the B pillar by the moonroof, and the rear camera recall.

Honestly, if I could go back, I would NOT have purchased the 2020 ST that I have now. Too many issues. It was pre owned when I bought it, which could have contributed to some of the problems. I’ve had one cv joint replaced…while it was being replaced they told me the other one was busted. The sunroof drain hose is broke, which is at least $700 to fix…my interior gets wet if it rains on it (the top of door panel into the floorboard). The gear thing that was described in this video - I have recently started experiencing/noticing (in 2nd or 3rd gear, when decelerating, it gets stuck in gear and switches to m2) Not cool! I’ve also noticed lately that my auto start stop feature comes on automatically and I have to manually turn it off. Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve never noticed it before. I also hear a weird rattle/rumble noise when I hit small bumps in the road…I’ve heard things about this noise being a bigger problem. All that to say - too many issues.

Tans are failing cause people don't know how to drive in sport mode. Shouldn't be letting the revs hang so long under engine braking when letting off the gas , that's what's killing these transmissions. After hard acceleration and you let off the gas , you should be manually up shifting 2 or 3 gears to calm the revs down...

Agreed. I wasn’t happy with any of it other than the warranty portion I got from Ford. But that’s how most stealerships are around here. That’s why I usually try to avoid buying local.

Let me guess, AC evaporator coil went bad on your 17’ mustang. My 17’ GT350 has the same problem. They had to take the entire dash apart. The dealer I went to, was very, very careful and very particular on who did the work. Glad it was still under warranty. Still have the car and the AC runs strong… knock on wood…

      Ford doesn't provide loaner cars.
