Fear Inoculum is certainly the finest work of Adam.
Working on his parts, I realized that there are a lot of asymmetric measures, for example :
Fear Inoculum 11/8
Pneuma 33/8 ? (14+19)
Invincible 7/8
Descending 7/4
Culling Voices 6/8 (ternaire) & 5/8
7empest 10/8 + 11/8
I also try to recreate the Tone of Adam.
Play in Drop D (D A D G B E)
Gear Used : Guitar Gibson Lespaul Custom / OD 808 Maxon / Amp Diezel VH4 (Channel 3) / Cab Mesa Boogie 4x12 / Mic Shure SM57

Thanks for all your comments, I really appreciate. I never expected to have so many views and all this feedback !
I don't pretend to play Adam Jones' fingerings to perfection, it was my way of playing just a few days after the album was released. Since that time I have updated some fingerings which seem more correct to me.
For information for those who noticed the neck pickup, i don't use this...
What i remember, i recorded the guitar with all in the bridge pickup position. The neck pickup is an error when i captured the video (it's a "play through" video).
Take care !
Florian
Florian Arnaud just keep playing 7empest
Awesome work!
Great work! You really nailed the timbre of his guitar too
@@mountainssea9642 I used an OD Maxon 808 + Diesel VH4 (Ch 3) + Mesa Boogie 4x12 and captured with the Shure SM57
Str8 up awesome! Made my day, and I'll have to have my guitars shipped back to me. Thanks for the inspiration. You couldn't have picked better songs this year, though I would love to see you do Rosetta Stoned, and maybe some Ceterum (the Cleveland guys).
Everyone may have forgotten Culling Voices, but not this guy. Not this guy.
Thats one of the best tracks on the album. People who dont love it simply dont understand it yet. Its a track that grows on you and surpasses some of the others on the album.
Sergey Melnik “don’t love it because you don’t understand it” is a pretty immature way of putting it, especially toward other tool fans who “understand” much of their other more complex music
@@MetalliBucket I meant that in more of a general way. Nothing to do with tool fans or its complexity. Its not a very complex song, theres nothing to understand that way. I meant in more of a growing on you way after listening to it. I think a lot of people first heard it and it reminded them of apc so they dismissed the song and just skip it.
I've only listened to Culling Voices TWICE since they album came out because I immediately knew how great it was and I really didn't wan't to spoil it's magic by repeated listens. Infact I've only listened to the whole album 1 time all the way through!
@@sillkthashocker Hmmm. Very interesting method of enjoyment.
Even being a guitar player who advocates for musicianship, and creativity across the board; in terms of songwriting capabilities, and each piece of the band being integral I never fully appreciate the brilliance of Adam Jones work. I think it goes to show how absolutely incredible it is. He has the ability to serve the song and music as a whole so well that it could easily go unnoticed or underappreciated.
Hes been underrated his whole career, but one thing I can tell by his playing:
He doesn't give a fuck.
...and therein lies the genius. seems simple yet devastatingly effective in the whole! plays the right note, not the look-at-me note, but also challenges the listener in other ways. Aenema spoke to me as a guitarist /band member/vocalist , like no other album had, and each album since blows me away.
Gorgeous cherry burst LPC sir, a truly rare one.
Dan Giampietro I know - right I was just thinking how the headstock size plus this guys loooong thinkers make that neck look skinny as shit and sooooo playable. Nice geetar
Completely agree
I can't express how much I love this album...
Great tone. TOOL songs aren't easy to cover on guitar. They're deceivingly hard. Lots of odd time signatures and changes. You did well.
Idk why but some Tool songs were pretty easy for me to learn on guitar in Drop D.
@@coolguy2873 i think if you learn from tab its a lot easier but learning by ear or playing without the original track is very hard because of the timing imo
Idk bout that one tools guitar isn’t very technical or anything hardest part is timing it up. Don’t get me wrong tools very complex and shit but the guitar is the easy part with tool
You need the right guitar too..
@z z don’t get me wrong there’s parts where Adam Jones goes off like at the end of descending or lateralus but what he’s doing in most songs is really simple, some of the first songs I was able to play when I first started teaching myself guitar were tool songs, I was able to teach myself eulogy, H., sober, schism, vicarious, Jambi, tools guitar isn’t that hard to play, especially comparing it to every other part. I’ve been drumming twice as long as I’ve played guitar plus I had lessons for drums and not guitar and I can’t even compete with Danny Carrey, Adam Jones I could play like two months into teaching myself
Love the Les Paul Custom, but more than that, the precision of your playing, Bravo!
John Miller there’s always one tosser critic on these a videos at least.. awesome video and guitar dude! Keep up the great work!
I would like to make one correction to this video.
The riff shown here from Pneuma isnt one of the 7 best from Fear Inoculum. It's one of the 7 best riffs of any song on the planet
YES! That riff is so badass that I fried out my Altec's listening too loud.
It doesn't hurt when you have the best drummer on the planet backing you up :)
Just listen to Justin and Danny on the backbeat.... My goodness...
The riff at 7:18 is my favorite from the whole album. It's so simple yet it gives off this triumphant feeling and it sounds blissful.
It's a clear reference to Right in Two from 10,000 days.
@@guywithalltheanswers6942 I know what riff you're talking about and that one is among my favorites too!
This album is Adam’s best work, at least with Tool.
Anything you recommend from good work outside Tool?
big call. i do love it to but theres a lot of good work before this also.
I agree. I've been saying this album is like a whole new Adam. He has branched out so much to have such feel in his solos with the new album. His works have always been great but F.I. was something totally different than what he's ever done.
I think the same can also be said for Justin and Danny. Musically, I think its their tightest album. The lyrics are the weak points. Feels like MJK rushed his parts.
Are u kidding
You're too good, goddamn. I wish you'd cover the whole album.
Btw, to empest is to cause pestilence, or infection.
Aldous Huxley once wrote about "seven million souls... in an empested atmosphere"
Seven... empest.
Over thinking separates the body from the mind
@@rickychardzz yeah but under-thinking removes the mind completely. Tool definitely thinks about subtle details and if you listen to the members themselves, they all admit that they extremely overthink each and every note, measure, beat, etc... to the point of exhaustion on maynard's part which is why he doesn't even like being around when they're writing.
KodyXXVll i don’t really try to understand maynard’s lyrics or else I’ll have to dedicate my entire life trying to find the real sense .... what i really enjoy is playing and learning chancellor’s and adam jones parts , they are really in their world.... this band is amazing (danny carey is the best drummer in the world with 4 polyrhythms at the same time)
@@KodyXXVll whooooooosh
sometimes we should accept things as they are and cherish what we have. other times its necessary to ponder and contemplate. i can listen to tool and be mystified and then I can watch the news, contemplate, and call BS..
I remember all the backlash and people were ragging on the album. But like a fine wine, this has just gotten better over time. Another masterpiece in a whole gallery of beautiful artworks. Some of the bands best work to date and you did a great job with Adam's guitar. 7empest is just insane.
Absolutely agree with this ! Like a fine wine, this album is a beauty
i honestly think its their best album. Its stream lined. Its top notch production. Its matured. Its a masterpiece!
Same thing happened with 10000 days. I agree.
The average listener won’t understand until they eat some mushrooms and then watch them play fear live. Album cut I could almost understand the criticism, until I did the above and then instantly understood it was a further evolution, better in almost every way. The communication is somehow a bit lost on the album
God this album still makes my hair stand on end
Perfect playing ...absolutely love that sunburst 🤘
Damn, that Culling Voices riff is so sick! Such an underrated song
Zach Hale fucking love that song classic song off a very strong album
That pneuma riff hits different
Incredible, this is fantastic. You da man!
Thanks 🙏
I swear the first 7minutes of Invincible are just pure perfection on the guitar for Adam Jones! This video is awesome and you deserve a ton of credit for playing these amazing riffs! 💯
The tone is perfect! Well done. Great vid.

Damn, best playing I've seen so far, well done!
Glad you like it Rob ! Thanks
@@FlorianArnaud absolutely amazing 👌👍
Damn, that's a sweet looking guitar, bro! But even better was your magnificent reproduction of those great riffs. That Pneuma riff is so fucking badass!
Pneuma is probably my new fav song ever, also the drums man, sick 😂
You played them like you wrote them. Perfectly. It would be remiss to add, that is the best looking Les Paul I have ever seen.
So I glad I saw this, I've been trying to play the chorus to "Fear Inoculum" higher on the neck and it's a pain. Now I can play it because I saw your video. Great content!
So I glad to help you ! Thanks Matthew
It's pretty simple. I see an amazing Tool cover, I subscribe. AWESOME job dude.
Thanks
Always the listening experience
Great Playing here, very solid tone. I subbed and hope to see more content that ill have to dig through.
I'm a simple man. I see Tool and a Les Paul and I watch it. Nice job, keep it up!
Sounds great and well-played! My favourite riff is the one in Pneuma.
You nailed the tone perfect man
So 7 riffs out of the 6 songs with available riffs on the whole album. This is the most subtle way of loving the whole album =).
Exactly ! :)
Dude... AMAZING!!
Thanks PJ !!
That sunburst’s so nice.
Talk about saving the best for last! Nice job
Outstanding play sir. You nailed the tone.
Thanks Man !
Excellent!
That guitar is so beautiful it hurts my eyes!
That bridge pick-up...all day bro. Excellent tone and playing.
Thanks Bro !
Well done!
Adam Jones style is so recognizable that you can see it in the patterns he uses, going all way back from opiate to FE, it’s all his unique Tone and style, hasn’t been diluted at all.
your tone is spot on!
Well done, very well done
Thanks Nathan !
Loving that tone!
Simply unbelievable; sounds just like Adam!
Thanks a lot Stacy :)
Wow man! Perfect.
Invincible has to be my favourite. Sounds so much like the Lateralus album!
Ugh this video is so FUCKING SICK DUDE. I saw Tool 3 times in the last 3 weeks and this album might be the best progressive record ever man. All 6 "songs" are unreal. Culling voices is my favorite then descending and fear
Thanks Carter for your kind words ! I love descending too.
That’s a beautiful Gibson. Such a pretty paint job 🤘🏽
Thanks 🤘🏽
Nice man! Really clean playing 👏👏👏
Thanks !
I remember hearing this riff for the first time and knowing that fear and oculum was going to be a special album I had goosebumps and was almost in tears when I heard this riff
