It is implied that the reason the Lizard League was taken as a joke was because they lacked proper leadership. That all changed when King Lizard took over the organization.

The Guardians were also severely understaffed. All the super strong/durable ones went to deal with the Sequids, so there wasn't anyone to handle the big guy. Leave Monster Girl or Samson on Earth and that fight probably goes very differently
Yes, the Lizard League still is kind of a joke! The reason they did so much damage is because they got the Guardians off guard, in a moment when most of the members where off planet and they only had a single member who could actually take some heavy hits, Kate... Who got overwhelmed and died for it.
And they lost three of their most powerful members. And King Lizard, maybe, but that should probably count as a win. They were better off under Supreme Lizard; at least with him they made it back alive.
I would still argue they would be a joke. Now they dealt actual casualties for sure but at the same time, King Lizard lost all of his henchmen in battle to not even the heavy hitters from the Guardians. On top of that, he somehow lost his life to a guy who got shot in the head. I can’t even imagine how you let something like that happen.
I think it is safe to say that a lot of people were surprised that Shrinking Rae survived.

Kate and Immortal understood one another because they've experienced deaths on multiple occasions according to what Kate said to Rex in episode 3 of this season. That's why Immortal is taking Kate's death the hardest than his other deceased lovers.
The "I understand" was a hilarious callback to when Mark was first talking-to the Emperor of Mars and he was explaining why the Earth Astronauts need to be executed as they may get in contact with a Sequid and lead to what has happened. 🤣
Amber is Eve’s friend too. Ever since they were working at the shelter together.

In fact, there have been cases where people survived with similar injuries.
One fell headfirst onto the drill.
Another had his head blown right through by a pipe.
And other cases.
Here he was also in “berserker mode”, which is why he continued to yell and fight and did not feel pain (due to adrenaline).
Plus, he's a bit enhanced (besides the making things blow up bit); that might have helped.
Don’t forget that time a drill went through someone’s eye but only pushed the brain so maybe the same happened with Rex since it was more of center.

I love watching the Rex death reaction on all reaction channels lol. It’s just funny to see the emotion of losing a character you don’t like much die and the relief of finding out he’s still alive.

Thanks for definitive answer. Both options kind of made sense from storytelling point of view - first one being a comedy-of-errors sort of gag, where Debbie dismisses a supposed spy only for genuine spy to appear at her doorstep moments later - and second one being a device to showcase Cecil's manipulativeness. This show freely moving from slapstick to psychological drama to slasher at a drop of a hat didn't help to hint which of the interpretations was more likely :)

I can imagine most viewers didn’t actually expect to see Rex get shot since it was left as a cliffhanger last episode. Such a dick move there. Then they subverted expectations again by having Rex somehow survive that.
Of all the scenarios I could’ve come up with it never would’ve been Rex getting shot in the head and surviving somehow
It's funny to think that the girl most likely to survive that fight (due to her duplicating nature) was the only one who actually died.

I think that Eve is a bit of Amber and Mark's friend. If you remember past episodes, Amber and Eve hung out a lot more when Mark had to go and save the world
Alot of people in real life have actually survived bullets to the head, plus you can tell king lizards shot was off when he shot rex.
It helps that Rex wasn’t using that much of his brain, he was safe to lose some! /s
Jokes aside, the angle and location was 100% survivable in real life. It was only through 1 hemisphere and was apparently a small caliber full metal jacket round, rather than a hollow point. So it just made a tunnel straight through. The “insta kill” spot is a walnut sized section at the brain stem. Somebody once accidentally even took a particle accelerator stream in a similar manner and survived. So as long as it wasn’t deep enough to sever the main artery, he wouldn’t bleed out.

rex is a creation of the government, much like eve, (and not to mention a superhero) so him being more durable than the average person really isn't that hard to believe

Orangutan mothers do this, as part of both softening food for their babies and to teach them *how* to chew; different species have evolved to different degrees of survival instincts vs. learned behaviours… Of course, Oliver being a cross between two drastically different species with different biological imperatives doesn’t help either.

So there's an interesting case study of a guy, iirc, named Porter Gauge who survived a steel rod through the head. He ended up having changes to his personality but he lived.
Also my granddad supposedly knew someone, or at least of a case (i forget which), who had been shot through the middle top of the head. Bullet passed by his brain and he lived.
So I wasnt completely surprised Rex lived.

Angstrom’s power is to open portals to other dimensions, in the same spot. So he cant teleport in a traditional sense. He goes to the same spot in another dimension n then returns to the dimension he wants to.
Yeah, the Maulers explained this when he recruited them; he had to take them to a dimension where the prison they were in had been blown up down to the level their cells were in and walk all the way up the crater in order to break them out.

As soon as you could see Rex was still pumping blood out from the gunshot I knew they were implying he wasn’t dead right away, this show is pretty fantastical but the writers really do get their gore and anatomy pretty good from what I can see

And the invisible gun blows up the sun for a reason - that perfect shot needed to be stopped or it would continue through the universe destroying everything in its path. Hence "it needs not just a steady hand, but a steady mind" - the ability to work out how to pull off shooting like that would be rare...
Some people survive head shots in real life actually. When it comes to ballistics it's pretty unpredictable, essentially with the smaller calibers.

Oliver's name was probably spoiled by the Amazon X-Ray feature which lists him as Oliver Grayson every time he's on screen.

Rex has super human durability along with his superpower. And he's extremely lucky as the very few people in real life who survived that near death experience.
Rudy is almost entirely logical. Monster Girl has brought up that she loses a week of age every time she transforms, and complained about it.
Ergo, she doesn't like getting a week younger every time she does it, but she does it to help fight threats.
Logically, she should want it fixed. Logically, Monster Girl will become a threat when she gets too young to control her form, like the Giant that wanted to be an astronaut and President.
Whatever feelings she has on the matter should be shelved. Sooner or later, she will be a five year old brain in a giant body smashing things because she wants to eat ice cream. Should everyone wait until she becomes a threat and take her down by force and lock her up? Or should the problem be addressed now while she is of a mental age to assist rather than waiting until she starts crapping in diapers and has to be locked up for years, and every tantrum she throws causes her to become younger and younger?

They changed a lot about Shrink Ray, and I couldn't be happier about it. In the comics, Shrink Ray was a guy and straight up died in that fight. I'm really excited to see where her character goes from here.

They don't exactly have thinking capacity. They just breed fast and kill everything other than them that they see. So, letting them loose in the universe is a bad idea for all species.
Yaaay new episode! It's so good to finally see the series picking back up.
The only complaint is... I wish they would elaborate more on why Monster Girl turned on Rudy like that. They were doing perfectly fine pre-break and suddenly she's like WOAH DUDE PUMP YOUR BREAKS when he tries to be helpful about the thing he's been very vocal about helping her with during this (and the previous) season. There has to be something else to it, right? If she didn't like the idea of him being concerned about her condition, I would have thought she would have talked to him about it sooner (and not after their date, causing *massive* mixed signals).
Granted, I could also be over-thinking this and it's just some minor drama they decided to insert into the show because they had some extra time to kill. lol
The comic did a better job on the subject. Robot tried to teach Monster Girl how to use Black Samson's suit and an automaton, but she failed to operate them effectively, and lashed out at Robot about how pointless it is. It's more understandable there because they are trying to find solutions and Robot doesn't seem to help much.
They're probably gonna do a Rex special just like they did one for Atom Eve.

I knew Rae was still alive! But never thought Rex was gonna take a bullet to the head.
It actually is possible to get shot in the head and live. If anyone knows anything about the serial killer the night stalker, he shot one victim in the face and he didn’t go down and he went after the stalker. Being absolutely terrified at a man surviving a gunshot point blank to the face the stalker ran away.
does he need to go through all those portals? yes because he can only go to different worlds not different places so if he opened a portal to straight to Marks world it would be inside a wall or something.
I’m so glad Allen is still alive and he beefed up.
However, Mark’s relationship with Amber handling some LDR stuff, it’s so hard how to manage all that, and I agree that it’s unfair how Mark’s double life affects Amber and it’s difficult for them to be a couple. Watching this episode was also the first time I felt bad for Rex and Immortal (if I got his name right?)

We saw how those other Scientists treated Eve's brothers and sisters and Cecile hates relying on a Viltrumite he can't control. Cecile and Oliver feels like a dangerous combination.

Lizard League is nothing special, but there are only 3 Guardians on the planet, and they are explicitly the vulnerable ones, because the ones that went to deal with the alien threat are all the people immune to the sequid threat.
The grreatest surprise was Dupli Kate's death. Not having read the comics, I'm a little in the dark, but at this moment this signs a huge departure from what came before. And I'm ok with that.
I think Amber and Eve are more friends than with William because mark and amber met eve around the same time while William has been friends him Mark forever.

Can I just recommend you do a reaction to “3 Body Problem” the new Netflix series I finished watching the season yesterday and definitely recommend watching it. Not to spoil anything but If you want to see basically a gory live action version of the subway scene from Invincible watch this show it delivers. It is one of the coolest scenes in sci fi I’ve seen this year.

I disagree with Amber: having powers does _not_ mean you have an obligation to make the world a better place. That's an impossible burden to put on your own shoulders. Imagine trying to fix the planet when its inhabitants keep messing it up. It'd be like trying to clean up a house full of messy toddlers but never doing anything to stop the toddlers from making a mess in the first place. It would eventually drive you to resent the toddlers (and then either become a villain or quit).
I will admit, they got me with Rex getting shot and surviving. At the end of the last episode, I fully expected Rae to grow out of that big dude's open neck hole and save Rex before he got shot. I expected Rex was going to have a turning point, just not for it to come at the cost of some of his own gray matter.
I don’t think Amber was talking about everyone with powers. She was talking about Mark. If his father wasnt Omni-man, he probably wouldn’t even cared about having powers. But then he saw his father saving the world growing up so that’s ingrained in him to do that and that’s what she actually loved about him because she also wants to save the world anyway she can. They both feel obligated to help the world and that’s what brought them together.
@@funnylilgalreacts That's fair. I hadn't thought about her meaning it specifically. Still, it's the obligation part that rings alarm bells for me. If you do something taxing because you want to, then that's fine. But if you do it because you feel like you have to, that's a recipe for frustration.

While I still very much dislike the level of gore in this series (as well as The Boys and Gen V), I did enjoy some of the storytelling. I really liked the way they did Mark and Amber's parallel conversations.
