  • London's Freemasons have funded two 64-metre turntable ladders for the London Fire Brigade, they are the UK's tallest fire appliances and reach up to 23 floors in height. Firefighter Andy Wilson tests out one of these ladders at Dagenham Fire Station taking it up to it's full working height of 64 metres.

In 1965 LFB had 42 TL/ALP appliances which steadily reduced to just 13 ? possibly 15 today. Any other comparable city in the world would have more than treble that number. Part of the problem is greatly reduced government funding. Another part is that LFB is managed by a private company Asset Co and they have fire coverage to the bone. In order to maintain share dividends they have twice threatened to go bust in order to blackmail the government to subsidise them. At the time of the Grenfell Tower disaster aerial appliances had been removed from the pre determined attendance at high rise fires. The first aerial arrived 32 minutes after the first call and the second took almost 2 hours. Freemasons are the largest charitable givers in the UK mostly anonymously.

There was nothing connected to the rear anchor point, and both his front hooks were clipped to his harness shackle. And if he makes a habit of laying his harness down on gritty concrete before putting it on, it's slowly going to grind itself away while he's wearing it. Show off!

When they publish the final Grenfell report in a few weeks, it will likely have recommendations for all Fire & Rescue services just like the preliminary phase one report did. If it recommends investment in new fire fighting equipment then Parliament (regardless of which party is in power) and local government would find it impossible to reject or ignore those recommendations, such is the importance of the report. 👍
