  • Hotel Continental - an important architectural work from the beginning of the 1960s, classified within the Czechoslovak avant-garde architectural movement as ‘Brussels Style’ - is a successful and impressive example of the post-war return of the nation’s architecture to the principles of modernism. Architects Rihak, Kovarika nd Semela suceeded building hotel betwenn years 1961-64, it has fifteen floors, reaching up to 51 meters and housing more than 230 rooms. Three wings concept enables single vertical communication center., linked to relatively narrow hallways and rooms on their both sides. All the rooms are well sunlit. Corbusier inspiration enlightens the lower two floors opening to exceptionally lobby hall, housing the most beautifull selfsustained spiral staircase and the together with Brussels-style ceiling it is a protected cultural monument.
