  • This is an update on my dog potty area. Two years later, I am still impressed with this amazing spot. It has saved my grass and it can save your too, if you have the room and the time to train.

    You. Are. Awesome! Thank You for your tips on dog urine prevention / treatment on the lawn - plus this follow up to ‘the designated spot’ even though I cannot make one (tenant) it’s still helpful:-)

    Hi ALG,
    Thanks for the update. BTW the pool looks great.
    I saw the 1st post and liked all the ideas. I resoded my back yard this year and created a similar area and trained to support the dogs (2) to use the area.
    I had a brick sidewalk which I covered in pet synthetic grass (K9 Grass type).
    It drains well and I still hose it down once a week while I water the lawn and once a month use a small power washer to clean the grass. Because it's in a corner off my garage that doesn't get much airflow I also use Simple Green Outdoor Odor Eliminator once every 4- 6 weeks if needed. 0:05 Picking up 1 - 2 times a day is a must. Thanks for the great idea. It's working out well just north of Chicago.

      I was afraid to use synthetic grass because people reported that it gets hot. Do you find it gets hot?

    Hi! I see a lot of people using pea gravel. I considered using kitty litter to prevent tracking bowel movements in the house. I figure just scoop and discard, then apply more as needed. Is there a reason behind the preference for pea gravel other than the fact that it lasts and you can rinse away urine?

      1 main advantage is the ability to provide better drainage when it rains. Kitty litter will be almost useless once it rains because it will absorb the water. Pea gravel is easy to clean, just rinse it with a hose once a month when it's warm outside

    It looks like there is a solar light installed. Was this added to improve success (your dog choosing the spot) at night time?

    • @TheALG
      @TheALG  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Not, I added the light so I can see her poop. The light males it easier to pick it up.

    We now have 3 dogs and it is quite a chore to clean up a 60x80 yard. I noticed you have solar lights around this area of the fence. I want to get some for my backyard now that it’s getting dark earlier. Would you please do a video or put a link in the description? Also, where do you store all your lawn tools/equipment etc? Thank you

      I use the ring smart lighting solar led wall light. I have not had it for a year yet but I may do a review if I feel it's a good investment. So far I have no complaints about it. It's easy to get at Amazon, home depot or at the ring website. The other fence lights i would not recommend since the are starting to give problems. I store all my equipment in my garage but I am working on a shed which I will put online soon.

    Would sand work for this instead of gravel

    • @TheALG
      @TheALG  Před 4 měsíci

      It would work but might be messy with sand being tracked into the house.
