Eachine P-51D 3-Year Review: Let's Fly!

- I've had my Eachine Mini Mustang P-51D 400mm wingspan EPP plane for 3 years! Time really flew - just like this epic little park flyer! Every summer I've regularly flown this since I've had it. I've got quite a few planes here but let me show you why this one's my favorite!

These are all functionally the same, so buy on price or looks. You'll get the same performance. And they're really easy to recommend - I can see BG has sold over 15,000 of these!
The Cessna F949 3-ch plane I discussed in the video doesn't seem to be available on BG anymore. You may still find it elsewhere - there are some on eBay shipping to Aus at time of video publication, for example. If you can grab one cheaply, they make a great first plane - although the P-51D we flew here today is also an excellent starter if you keep the gyro on until you're ready to experiment a bit more!

A very good and informative video of the Eachine P-51 mustang, Witch i have had one for a1 year now. A well made rc airplane. I also have another 15 rc airplane's, 5 drones different types, and 3 top grade Helicopter's..lol..along with my 26 rc car's and crawler's...lol. The rc hobby is just grate. And with grate people like your self who make these video's is just the icing on top of the cake. Thanks' for sharing.👍

I had one like the F949, SO easy to fly and the same as your opening: full throttle into the wind and it was just hovering....that's a great way to come in for a landing. I used to fly it in the parking lot outside my shop....until I flew it into a steel chimney lol....
My first big plane was a hobbyking bixler.....where I had to fly was FULL of trees and wires and debris on the ground...I crashed that thing and repaired it so many times it would no longer fly so I bought a kit version and transferred everything over to it....I discovered my biggest issue was tip stall since my field was so small I had to crank and bank and if I wasn't going fast enough, into the ground she went. That's why I got the small trainer with the gyro, you could fly it in baseball diamond.
The Bixler looks really good, I've nearly bought that a few times. Leaning to fly on tight spaces is a steep learning curve but you do then really appreciate wide open spaces!
Ahh, I've been waiting for one of your non-standard videos for a while, and more so from the mini RC planes! They're so good! I had never, ever(!) flown, and got myself an Eachine Spitfire. In no time I was out there flying and having an absolute BLAST! I can't have enough of it!
Beginner mode was too controlled, and I struggled to make turns, so I went for intermediate and I think it's the best setting, as Advanced really makes no sense, being such a light machine, and so sensitive to any breeze, you can have some big frights.
Speaking of which, I tried to go out today, but unfortunately, there was a bit of a breeze and I didn't want to chance it.
Still, every time I'm up in the air with it, I can't help doing low fly-bys and making machine gun sounds as if doing ground attacks... I feel like an absolute child for all the right reasons!
In my very limited experience, I think the CoG is a tad behind, with the stock battery, and the "trims" on the radio don't actually do what they would on any regular radio, so that was a bit of a puzzling one to figure out. I've seen some reviewers cramming coins right through the foam to try to shift the CoG forwards. I can't stomach doing that to mine, but happy to hear your input on this to try to make it fly a bit more true (how technical of me!) and stay flat rather than always trying to climb.
Oh, and if someone else is reading these, get spare propellers and locking white plastic piece for them. They really are lost of get damaged easily.
PS: for your first video on the matter, I have to congratulate you for your great camera work. Especially being on your own recording. Most videos I see they either show me a dot with a blue-sky backgroung, with no point of reference, or are an absolute motion-sickness festival...
Wonderful! I trimmed mine down a few notches and that solved the nose pointing up. Cog does need to be forward a little, yeah, but it's good enough with a trim adjustment. I wouldn't want to add more weight when there's a noticeable difference already between a 400mah and 500mah battery!
Oh thank you! I knew I wanted clear footage, so recorded the flight on 5.7K and high bit rate on the go pro, so I'd be able to zoom in without too much graininess. Glad you enjoyed it, I had fun making it!
Great video, really enjoyed watching you throw that little plane around the yard. Very nicely done. You are both a more skilled and more brave pilot than I am. I won't even fly that low in our open field, much less in the trees. My planes would just die. Colour me impressed. Well done, sir.
I really should not be surprised that you fly, too. I mean, why not? It makes sense that people who do RC would be interested in all or nearly all aspects of the RC hobby. Ground, water, air. Very cool. It would be delightful to see more of your aircraft collection and flying videos. I know, the focus is crawling, but this is definitely a neat side adventure.
Those smaller planes are a lot more fiddly and twitchy than the larger planes, I never really got the hang of keeping those in the air, but you make it look super easy. I'll have to re-investigate putting together another small plane and try my hand again at it. I have a couple of small built-it-yourself kits around that size, one is a P51 and the other is an F4U. Both fantastic planes, fantastic kits... but I'm just not good enough to keep them in the air after they're built.
I really like that built in gyro function on that Eachine plane. Horizon Hobby has a feature like that, called "SAFE", which also has three options, but on the older models also has a "panic" button which when pushed will immediately right the plane no matter what it's currently doing. I re-learned how to fly on one of those, it makes a huge difference.
I haven't really flown any planes in quite a while (I have a couple of nano-sized collective pitch helicopters that I fly more regularly). You've inspired me to put one of my training birds back in the air and see if I can regain what I've lost, and then get more of the fleet back in the air. Thanks for the motivation!

You're only seeing the end result though! I've bashed up my share of planes learning to fly among the trees here!
The gyro in this one would be similar to the SAFE system. The Beginner level is similar to the Panic feature in that it rights the aircraft very quickly and sets it straight. Modern gyros are a wonder of modern, cheap electronics!

That sideways flight is called "slipping."
A very essential skill for landing in a crosswind.
I too love flight, but have lost too many to ever venture into aero rc again.

I don’t fly & probably won’t but never say never. My problem is there’s so many new RC’s out & on sale. The New SCX 6 Honcho keeps calling me so that’s a bit of an investment there. I was never interested in the Jeep version & the price is hard to swallow but when I saw the Honcho version it caught my attention right away. I have the 1:10 scale Honcho & replaced all the plastic links for metal. I can see why people like using the SCX 2 platform for builds the thing just works so well & upgrades just keep making it better. Nice little plane though without a big investment makes it hard to not get one & after that my guess is you’ll wind up with more then one.
Heh yes I get you. The Honcho is amazing and I feel the same way. Without rctnt here I'd have held off on the Scx6 but the Honcho would have got me over the line for sure.
And flying is relaxing and fun and certainly affordable these days!
I fly drones, but I can't trust myself with a plane!! Especially in that wind!! Good effort. 😎👍🏻

The P-51D is a neat little plane. I enjoyed the low and slow flying. I think that appears to be a good way to start out, but for me it would have to be without trees. I think it's also neat that it's a copy of the Red Tail Squadron of WWII.
Learning here around the trees was pretty brutal at first. Wide open space would have been better but I got there eventually!

Hey dude, can you do a video on Crawler competitions, the classes, how to enter, what the classes mean, how to find a local comp to go to or get into the more comp.side of the hobby
That's a great idea. We're heading towards hosting comps again, once insurance and legal structure is sorted. I can do a comp primer video in the meantime, that's a great idea. Might be a few videos until it publishes but I think that is worth doing for sure. Stay tuned :)
Hi, your planes look really cool and lots of fun.
I was into nitro heli's and planes when younger, till a friend nearly lost all his fingers in a plane prop.
It really highlighted how dangerous they could be, and after that, even flying heli's just seemed worrying constantly, like if a small gust came, it could be life threatening when flying them close, always half a step away from disasters lol.
Kinda ruined the fun for me, as that was always in the back of my mind, and the worst part was, what if it hit someone else?
It used to scare me enough on 27mhz with cars when lost signal and went out of control, fear of breaking others ankles etc, but chopping someone to bits seemed a little more severe 😬🤣
Wanted to get a small drone for years, but never got around to researching fully and deciding which to get 🤦♂️maybe one day 😁
The 2.4 ghz made it a lot safer for both cars and flying rcs. Get a simple cheap one to try and you will be back in the game.
@@idworkhard i recently got my daughter and myself crawlers (rtr + 2.4), was so reassuring when turned off the transmitter to test with full throttle and it just stopped😅 phew!🤣.
Once they are paid off😬, I'm saving for a noble nb4😎, and a few extra recievers lol, then will have a little play with some old models that I didn't want to risk destroying lol.
I had bought a dumborc 2.4 for them a while back, but found when using with my old esc's the neutral return was so shockingly bad it made them unusable accurately, randomly kept going forwards or reverse on trigger release, and no way to adjust a deadzone.
Once I've got our crawlers pimped, and some old models running again, I'll probably take another dive into aircraft (small drones) 🤣👍
I sold and gave away all my flying models though 😥, kept a couple of toys, an old vectron and picilo? lol 🙄
Might have to get them down from the loft to see how bad my flying is now 😁🤣
Fully understandable and big fast stuff can be dangerous, even lethal, for sure. These little models are harmless though. There are some brushless mini drones out there too that weigh less than 250g that are about as harmless too - I have a few and they're brilliant fun on fpv. Anyway, your caution is warranted but the new stuff is excellent in that regard. And of course, all digital these days too. I don't miss the AM radio crystal shuffle and interference-runaway!

It's also such an epic little thing! You won't regret this one, I still fly mine, though the motor isn't easily replaceable and it is wearing out now

I flew my old one into a tree on purpose so I’d buy a new one. It’s on its way. Crashed the old one 50 times or more. Good plane no doubt. Break away prop is so smart for longevity.
Technically I do a lot of flying, but never piloting! My off-sider says you must get up to the Model Plane Club.

I currently fly rc helicopters but I can't fly them in the wind which is frustrating so I'm thinking of getting this plane,is it ok in breezy weather,the breeze about 15 to 20mph,would it be ok do you reckon?
