- Ride along with me as I explore some of my favorite Philadelphia thrift shops. Didn't find a great deal on this trip but I was very excited about the 1920's German made Nativity Set.
- Krátké a kreslené filmy
Wow! The vintage creche is absolutely incredible! I can't believe that is was so intact for something that old. Amazing.
Love your ride alongs. It's great to see what you purchase and all of the architecture you show us. Sweet cat!
Thank you thank you!
Trolleys. Rowhouses. Yiddish swing. Bad Belvita. You know how to make us happy! Love, love, love the Nativity Set, especially the Putz sheep. Ooh la la that frame with the toy horse. Thanks for sending us some Philly junk shop joy.
My pleasure Laura!
That nativity scene is amazing! What a find.. !!
I was very excited!!!!
Oh its beautiful ,the greenery all over the city and diversity of building..
I love ‘our’ ride-alongs! Thanks for showing us all that beautiful architecture. How amazing to be able to visually capture the layers of time that exist in your city. You’re too funny...dunk them in your coffee next time. Everything is better dunked...especially better than needles in your eyes!
Next time....I'll dunk!
The plain oat Belvita biscuits are yummy. Good with afternoon coffee or tea. Love your videos!
Oh my gosh Scott, Thanks for the ride along! LoVed seeing the Philly houses! You made me home sick. Your black kitty CaT is sooooooooo CuTe. You are too funny, I darn near spewed coffee from my lips when you where describing the dry biscuit wafer things and how gastly they tasted HA! Keep the videos coming. The Nativity manger scene is the Bomb~diggitty!
Thanks Kandi. I'm glad you liked seeing some of the houses in the city. I thought I'd change things up a bit and add some spice to my haul. I'm loving the nativity and can't wait to use it this Christmas. Oh...the cat says MEOW and and thanks!
I am binge watching your videos 😳. I really enjoy every thing about your channel. You r so interesting informative and nostalgic. Brings back so many memories for me. You said in one of your videos something about thrift with me videos being boring. Thrift with me videos are what they are. The only thing I would suggest to anyone doing a thrift with me video is to just go slow very slow because we r actually shopping with you in our minds and so it is an easy fix 😘. Thank you for all you do to bring joy to those of us with health issues who are stuck on our couches most of the day may God bless you.
Thank you so much!
OMG you kill me with your humor, love the video.
I love that nativity scene. Great find! I collect nativity scenes and would love to find one like this.
Love the old buildings. Thank u for sharing
My pleasure!
My grandparents had two of those celluloid lady reliefs ....exactly like that ...they had convex glass panels
Love this ride along! Christmas is my fave 🎄🎅❤️
Love..the nativity set..did they make sets in the late 1800s? Lol on the stay constipated quote😂🤣
My dad's originally from philly..I've never visited any second hand stores while there..what a mistake..thanks for taking me along with you to see the architectural wonders of philly😍
That apple pitcher is Watt Pottery. My husband and I were yelling buy it! buy it! I think it still sells pretty well but used to bring real high prices about 10 years ago. I have never found a nativity set that old or nice before. Great finds!
Good eye! The Watt pitcher sells for between 15 and 25 on line and it's not really in the category of 1920's to 60's that I specialize in. I liked it, but decided to leave it for another buyer. If I were still selling in an antique mall, I might have picked it up as a booth item. That kind of things sell well to folks in PA who like the "country" look in their homes. I"m sorry I made you yell at your TV set. But I know where I can pick up about 1,000 packs of Belvita if you are interested. Just kidding! Thanks for watching.
Lol - No thanks on the Belvita. I know what you mean about the Watt and Limoges. I would buy if it was cheap enough because we do a monthly show. We don't mark items real high so that we can move them. It's so much easier to hand a person an item, then to take pictures, do descriptions, pack it and ship it and then pay a ton of fees.
Oh I totally agree. My hope (in retirement) is to just do shows and higher end antique markets. I don't mark things very high either and I really LOVE selling in person. Sometimes all of the photo taking, listing, packing and shipping does get old. :)
love, love, love your show, fave new discovery!
Thank you Thank you!
Creche is just amazing and beautiful!
That was great fun....loved the nativity scene ...and yes those cookies are 🤢the Apple pitcher was great.....very frustrating to watch you leave it there 😁
Yes....many people wanted me to pick up that Watt pitcher. I don't really have a category in my Ebay store where it would fit. It's slightly out of the range of things I like to buy and sell but I could always flip it at a flea market. Perhaps it will still be there tomorrow!
The old photo is really neat. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. I like how you show the shelves at the thrift stores. I don't get dizzy!
Thanks for coming along!
Scott, It's so much fun riding along with you as you thrift! You have a great channel and I'm so happy to have found you.
Why thank you so very much!
loved seeing the old buildings!
Great....I'm glad you did. Some streets haven't changed in over 100 years.
ha ha ha...watching you eat that Belvita is like watching me eat my vegetables!!!!! By the way, I am in the process of selling my Grandma's old Nativity set....yes, you heard me right, I'm an ingrate. I just haven't got the room and haven't taken it out in over 25 years. It's a mix and match type of set with a lot of chips, but I am hoping the new buyer will use it and enjoy it. Your set was similar mine wasn't marked. Grandma always put it out on angel hair. Oh by the way, I checked with my sister and my daughter and neither one of them even remembered it, so that was a clear sign it was OK to sell.
nice finds. The nativity scene, awesome!
Way cool to be over 80 years old and still have so many pieces!
Just a beautiful naivety scene 👍❤️❤️
Loved the ride along; your area has beautiful architecture and lots of interesting things to see. I've not been to Philadelphia. The Yiddish background music really sets your toe a'tappin, LOL. The nativity set was a great find. I'm becoming more selective in my picking as well. TFS.
Thanks for watching Elaine. Here's hoping our selective picking pays off!
The nativity scene is just beautiful for $3 Scott. Greetings from Australia 🦘🦘✨🌙
Amazing that all the pieces were there in the crèche - great find!
Yes I was thrilled to find all of the original pieces. Composition doesn't always hold up over the years when stored in really hot attics or damp basements. Thanks for watching.
I love watching your drives through Philadelphia. I worked there for about 6 months for CHOP. Stayed at the University City Sheraton. My company had an office in Bethlehem PA. I think I need a rode trip. I don’t find the same quality of items at the thrift stores around where I live now.
Thanks Cathy
Hi Scott! I really enjoyed going for the ride with you! The architecture is breathtaking. I love seeing new places. Ty4s Oh btw I could have warned you about the Belvita’s lol. I’d rather be constipated too! Lol 😝
Yeah! We can be constipated together.
Lol!! No ty 😏
Thanks for taking us along : ). You definitely made me LOL a few times during this video 😂. I just started eating those cookies. I didn’t try the cinnamon ones though, and maybe I won’t 😂. The nativity is beautiful!!! Enjoy the rest of your night! 😊
Oh I didn't know they made other flavors. Perhaps I'll give it another try. :)
Nativity is beautiful!!!
I love the nativity set. That manger is awesome
You always seem to find the coolest stuff. Bravo! The part of Philly that you showed us is just lovely and very grand looking, I’m comparing it to Pittsburgh which is so different. I’ll stick to Oreos. A tissue box coated with cinnamon doesn’t sound like anything I would ever eat. Thanks for the ride. I hope that you take “us” along again.
Good idea. Stick to Oreos! Thanks for joining me on the ride.
"We" might not actually be physically with you on your thrifting hauls, but "we" are with you in spirit! Now go back and buy that hand-painted porcelain you passed up, and that's an order mister! LOL!
You really should have grabbed that "gaudy" soap dish! That style is in and would sell pretty easily! Oh and that gold trash can! Love the scenes of downtown with all that architecture!
Oh gosh really? Tell you what....if that soap dish is still there tomorrow.....I"ll grab it. Glad you enjoyed the cityscape. At least everyone can now see the trolley that I always seem to get stuck behind!
I always learn something from you! (And I think I know it all!") LOL FYI Try Nature Valley Biscuits with Almond Butter. Tasty, different, and 3 grams of fiber. Of course I eat them for the Taste! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Jodie.....I'll give Nature Valley a try! Thanks for watching.
Cute and old buildings you are passing by. Like going into another time zone
I LOVE the blueberry Belvita biscuits.
Hum.....should I give them a try?
Scott's Old Curiosity Shop Sure! I hate that they are so crumbly but I find them pretty good.
I loved the Pepsi Cola jingle at the beginning. My Mom use to sing that jingle around the house among others. I also sang along with you to Pilot's "Magic". So, wow, it was musical. Thank you soooo much for the slow drive down the Victorian section of Philly. It brought back memories of being twenty four when I considered moving to Philly with someone I worked with. Didn't happen but I sure enjoyed the sights. The bite at the end was probably a Blue Jay as they are loud and screech to warn of trouble. I was screaming at the screen when you pulled out the Bel Vita. Noooo,Scott, nooooo! But yeah, as you said, it isn't "we" it's you with us watching later. I half expected at the end for you to identify the man and his sons as a famous Beer Brewing family of Newark so that increased the value, ALAS, that was not the case. I enjoy watching your thrift adventures.
Oh I'm so glad you enjoyed seeing old Philly! By the way.....there used to be a HUGE mansion in downtown Newark, NJ and I think it was the home of a wealthy brewing family. There were once many mansions in Newark. Kinda sad to see it now. I was born and raised in Jersey. But thanks for watching and NO MORE Belvita for me!
I went to the Ballantine House within the Newark Museum complex. That was wonderful. I really thought that is where you were going with that picture. Lol. Me and my fanciful imagination. I so enjoy your vlogs. Thank you.
Great finds you gotta keep regular 😂 😂. I love victorion early 20th century photos though some kids ones can be creepy :)
Oh I agree about the old creepy kid photos!
Awesome finds!
Thank you!
'Mouse in your pocket'? Hahaha
That has always gotten me, too. Why, we, when 'we' is simply thee?
Belvita are tasty, not too sweet and lots of nutty texture, but they are supposed to be a breakfast replacement cookie - for me no way I could go all morning on just them, but they make a good snack, especially with coffee
Thanks for the architectural tour of Philly! It's so nice to have a chauffeur in the city. Cool picture with the German pull toy horse and dour children. I think all the cinched up clothing made everyone miserable. Since I'm older than you I must be more constipated(I'm told I'm full of it), I like Belvita cookies dunked in milk.
Should I give the Belvita another try? Maybe dipped in apple cider!
@@oldcuriosityshop265 that sounds good!
NO! Belvita is for old people! Stay away from the biscuit! lol. I’m shocked at the stuff you find thrifting! Going thrifting back East is definitely on my bucket list!
I live in a Belvita free house! Thanks for watching!
I don't know why but I pictured you living in a small town in a big old house, lol. Not living in a big city. But Philadelphia looks very nice.
And give Salem some extra gravy!
I eat BELVITA cookies with my coffee! My dog ate them as treats! OATMEAL & COCONUT IS BEST TASTING!
That Nativity is ugly and awesome at the same time. I would have had a hard time passing it up. The apple pitcher you passed up was at least 40 years old or more. I am attracted to pitchers because they look great on a table with flowers or fall leaves and that one would look nice. There was some nice architecture you showed us. Looked like a nice fall drive.
It was a pretty pitcher.
I can't believe i said nice three times. How redundant! Thanks for commenting on my redundant comment. Haha!
I'm just a nice guy! 😆
That was a Watt pottery pitcher, very collectible, I just sold a bowl for $45
Way to go!!!!!
The photo makes me wonder if the man's wife had passed away. Beautiful frame!
BELVITAS also come in PUMPKIN SPICE! 🎃
Didn't mind the singing! Was just jamming bc I love that song
When you walked past the, I believe, Edwin Knowles shallow bowl with the wheat you said,"Very common". It seems the Knowles stuff doesn't have anything on the bottom. Though I looked up his stuff on replacements and I would say most of his stuff is kind of uncommon, at least to me, a novice. Ahhhh, poor Belvita. Don't you dunk that in coffee?
Oh golly I think they gave away those wheat dinner sets to every newly married couple in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. I see it every where I go. Funny how different items can be found in large numbers in different parts of the country. You know....I never even thought about dunking it in my coffee. Shame on me!
Dunking was the only way to go with the Belvita. But at least you know now what it is like and can avoid.
Belvita are a healthier alternative for a breakfast cookie, not for constipation.
I was kidding about the constipation 😊
"Tastes like tissue box dipped in cinnamon... I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than eat any more than that." Lol
Wow. That crèche!! How exciting! And those old buildings! Sad they don't make them like that anymore. So....you said you are putting the nativity away until Christmas time? Selling? Keeping?
I'm gonna keep it Debbi. I've always wanted one from the 1920's. And yes....those grand old houses will never be built like that again.
What was the music you were playing in the car?
Hi Scott,
Wow it’s very old world in Philadelphia just as I imagined especially the old Victorian homes. Fun ride a long and I love the beautiful Christmas manger you found! Are you putting that in your eBay store?
Hi Gracie....I'm keeping the manger! Sorry for the tease. 😢
Can’t blame you. I would keep it too. Definitely a keeper.
Hahahahahaha! Belvita
Soon there will be no more Dunkin Donuts just Dunkin that's it.
Would you use shoe polish on the leather frames?
Yes that would work well. Also lemon oil or bees wax.
Just the clear polish
😂😂😂rawhide,cowhide..
The wise men were kings and the kings were wise men.
We three kings of orient are,
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain,
Moor and mountain,
Following yonder star.
Star of wonder... something, something, hmm, hmm...😂
