Make sure to check out my long term review on this bike! Follow the link: czcams.com/video/wVlyNjsMqww/video.html
Guts about your autoimmune thing, so looking forward to seeing ya out there thrashing the trails on that bike sometime soon!
Cheers mate! Appreciate it. Not long go now.
@@BlueSkyBoys vaccine related?
@@travelmrror5331 na, post viral arthritis from a flu that I had. Turns out i'm predisposed to it. very rare
Good to see your on the mend hopefully back on the bike soon, nice bike great value for the money.
I can also confirm Canyon after sales and warranty etc for Australia and NZ is very good if you ever have problems..
Cheers Scott! That's reassuring to know. Looking forward to smashing the bike into some roots for the first time soon haha
10/10 video and bike check. Really hope you get the auto immune stuff sorted out man that's rough af. Hope y'all keep up the good work. Cheers from America
Cheers mate really appreciate it! Health is pretty good now and just starting filming for the full review. Will be out in a couple weeks 🤟
Super Easy Install & Usage
hope you get better soon man
Cheers man! shouldn't be long now
Ordered an AL 5 (slightly different components) early last month. Can’t wait for it to come in! Also glad you’re on the mend health wise!
Cheers man! good choice that's gonna be epic!
I'm waiting for an AL 5 as well but i've gotten 2 emails so far delaying arrival time to Canada...
@@SkylerSchill I am in canada too waiting for the AL 5, and just got the payment link the other day... I ordered it april 18th... I was getting a bit frustrated with the delays and the constant component changes back and forth... As it is now I am all happy with the raceface cranks... The brakes are to be determined but they "seem" like they should be decent... (sram db-8)... The 6120deores are not allstar brakes anyways so I guess its a sideways move... The "alexrims dr850" change was bothering me though from the raceface AR30's and I had inquired about the change numerous times with all sorts of differing answers... I did a bunch of looking around myself and I believe the dr850s are hubs and the rims are still Ar30's ... I was told they are still using the AR30 so I am hoping that's what shows up... I would have preferred if they kept the shimano hubs but whatever.... Over time I will probably upgrade some things anyways. It was frustrating to see them making no changes on other models, but went to town making changes on the AL 5....Anyways, for us in Canada I still think its the best bang for the buck even after the duties and taxes. Other bikes with similar components are all like 5k before taxes here. I was interested in the 125 AL 6 with the SLX components, but it adds up quick with the added duty and taxes and would have been $5300 to my door... The regular spectral AL6 would probably be close to $5500.... so I think the AL 5 is still the best value, especially for canadians.
@@Muskiehunter92 I’m sure what ever comes will be a nice ride! After 2 more delay emails I cancelled my order… I found something used locally and just wanted to get out riding. Maybe consider canyon again in the future when things like components and lead times are back to “normal”
@@SkylerSchill Ah I dont blame you there. I was so close to cancelling a couple times myself but couldn't find anything that was quite as good in that price range that offered a payment structure to boot. I'm hoping they stay true to their time. They are a month or so early from the expected delivery so we'll see. My old man got a gravel bike from them and had it a week or so after payment so I am crossing my fingers its here next week... Anyways, have fun out there.
I’ve been looking for Spectral AL6 27.5 review since I got one. It seems very hard to find one. Thank you for this review. So far I definitely love mine. However, not a huge fan of two tone colors. Mine is in metallic gold ish rear and peach or something color at the front. I think I am going to get professional painter to delete the peach color and make in the same color as the rear.
Cheers! Yeah fair enough on the colours, I wouldn't say they are super exciting. Let us know how you get on with the painting process. That's a cool project!
Nice video! Hopefully these newer Spectrals don't break after a few months, like the 2018-2021 models did.
They seem pretty robust. Very simple design, big bearings, lots of grease and nice looking welds. If it breaks you will definitely hear about it!
i believe the previous gen suffered from bad batches of heat treatment
@@BlueSkyBoys does it still live?
Haha 😂 yeah the box was absolutely flogged once it arrived to me in Australia too. Couldn’t believe the bike survived, although there was a decent hole exposing the Quixle Thruaxle which was scratched up a bit but nothing major. Canyon refunded me $40 I think because of that.
Seems like a bit of a trend hahah. Good they helped you out though!
hope you're riding again soon mate. I just ordered a spectral cf8 and am just making sure that you didn't have to pay any extra import fees getting it here to nz? cheers
cheers! appreciate it! Na no fees at all. Canyon covers all that stuff in the cost. That's gonna be an epic bike!
im 3 months late but wanted to know your opinion of the cf7 vs the al6. Im trying to make a choice between the two and really don't know what to do haha. Also, glad to see your back on the trails that auto immune thing is scary
Cheers man! It's so good to be back on the bike. I definitely looked into the CF7, but decided the alloy was probably a better choice for me and my bank account hahaha. As a filmer, my bike often gets chucked in a bush. Alloy is a little more robust for that kinda thing. But if the cost isn't a factor I would probably get the CF, they are super nice!
@@BlueSkyBoys ahh, yea that's a pretty good reason and i must say my bank account won't like it either... Thx a lot for the opinion tho. Cheers!
This bike is so sick! The frame colour looks amazing, is this the 27.5 or 29 model?
Cheers man! Super stoked on the finish. It’s a 29er. I’m a tall guy so the big wheels don’t really get in the way.
Sorry to hear you are having health issues. Take your time mountain biking will always be there. Still happy to make a video even if you were filming not riding. Could do a fun edit at Oropi. I do want to know where I can buy a bike stand like the one in the video.
Cheers Lance, taking my time and I'll be back on the bike soon. Yeah definitely! send us a message next time you're in town. ya know what I could gift you the stand from this video, I ordered a spare ;)
Chur bro was there any extra costs except shipping. Like any extra tax adding on the total cost? Thanks
Shipping is $200 from canyon for all bikes but they cover the import tax and everything. So no hidden costs when it arrives. Was a pretty easy process aye!
How long did it take for canyon to send the, your bike has been shipped email?
They sent the email probably 2 weeks before the bike was due. But It actually arrived about a week early too.
Id be keen on swapping shocks if your keen? my coil (off a spectral mullet) for yours?
Thanks for the offer but I'd probably go with a DVO coil. Want to support DVO NZ cause they are doing some cool stuff!
@@BlueSkyBoys haha yep . Awesome service and price. Have a dvo fork and shock on anther bike.
@@BlueSkyBoys ill flick you guys a pic of a 210 oneup slammed in a large cf on insta
@@MrSupermugen sounds good!
Do you think that frame is strong.I have heard a lot about that spectral frames crack very easily
I've been riding it pretty hard with some massive impacts and no issues yet. I will definitely report back if I do get a crack. But for now I'm confident
Thanks I have ordered al 6 27,5
What do you think about the Uphill performance? It's not really light weight....
It pedals really well. Don’t really reach for the lockout much. But yeah, it’s not super light by any means. So I would say better than you would expect but not incredible.
@@BlueSkyBoys There are no place for light bikes on this planet anymore.... 😀
@@carstenschulte7223 haha fair enough. Weight seems a big deal on paper but once you get on the trail going down it really doesn’t matter too much. Makes the bike feel stable aye!
@@BlueSkyBoys True. But sometimes i wonder how a spectral could weight 13kg in 2016....for less money! And these bikes are still alive today. 🙂
@@carstenschulte7223 Lighter wheel set, 27.5" wheels, narrower tyres, shorter dropper posts, smaller diameter fork stanchions, shorter frames, shorter hoses .. That's 2kg right there.
Hey, I'm just choosing between a spectral al 5 and al 6. Which would you recomend? Is the al 6 worth the price difference?
I would recommend the al6. It has a better value and it's totally worth the extra money.
Alright! Thanks for the advice!
I have the al 6. It's really nice.
Nice! What kind of stuff do you ride mostly?
I do quite a lot of jumping and enduro. I also ride park sometimes.
Isn’t that a Charger 2.1 damper same as the Lyrik Ultimate?
Slight difference to the damper in the ultimate. That has a dial in the center for high speed compression. This only has low speed compression. But aside from that they are very similar
Hey bro. what is the tyre size of your bike? 29 or 27.5?
This one’s a 29r 🤟
How are you? I'am 186 cm and considering of buying XL one. The bike looks small for L size.
I wannted to write "How tall are you" but asking how are you is polite :-)
@@tomasmann7576 haha it is! I am roughly 193cm tall so I do technically fit on the XL. I've always preferred slightly smaller bikes for the playfulness. If I was to race more I think the XL would be a better choice. It looks quite small next to me but doesn't feel small on the trail. I'm super stoked with the size!
How tall are you and how did decide to get a large?
I’m 6”3 and I’ve just always preferred a slightly smaller bike. The jump to XL on the spectral is the pretty big so it wouldn’t have fit my more ‘playful’ style of riding. If I were to race I would go XL though for more stability.
They're quite a bit cheaper now! $5000 including shipping to NZ
Oh really! They seem to have sales quite often. That’s a banger deal!
hows the wheels been?
The wheels are super solid! Aside from the hubs being a little slow on engagement (which you can upgrade with different ratchets from DT Swiss) and them being a little heavy, there's really nothing to complain about. Haven't need a true and no dents
Bout to order a cf7. $3199!
Congrats mate! Gonna be an epic bike. That’s a good price!
4:33 "mic hits" yeah right I know the sound of a wet fart when I hear it man. No need to be shy about it it happens to everyone. Just not everyone puts it on CZcams.
Hahahaha
This is my first road czcams.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and I have taken it out a handful of times and so far it is exceeding all of my expectations. I didn’t want to break the bank on a first bike and the herd is a great option for getting a fast bike with reliable components. I plan on riding this bike for many years to come. Thank you Sava!
Thank you! Really appreciate it and hope you enjoy the bike!
Hello man im looking to buy the same bike! Im just wondering which size should i get im 187cm tall, M or L cheers :)
Nice! I would guess a large for your height. I'm about 192cm ish and went with a large but it's just slightly small for me. I think the medium would be way too small for you
@@BlueSkyBoys thanks man, i will go with L :)
Hey man how tall are you?
Hey. I’m 6ft 3”. Roughly just over 190cm. On paper I probably fit the XL but it’s too long for my style of riding.
Great thanks for the help
Best wishes from austria
Hope you get better 🙏🏻
@@Baller-ln2wh Thank you! Much better now :)
Oneup dropper post ?
The insertion length is too long on them. Would be sticking out the frame just as far and be too high for me hahah.
@@BlueSkyBoys ignore the insert depth canyon provides, its only "a thing" because of their dropper having a long actuactor. as long as the actuator clears internally you are good to go.
@@MrSupermugen oh really? Do you know of any ~200mm posts that fit well? Would be stoked if I can get the seat a little lower.
@@BlueSkyBoys i have a 210 oneup in my cf large. Itll slam easily... check the fb spectral owners. Lots of info in there, including my post on it.
@@MrSupermugen oh sick! Thanks man! Appreciate the info!
Not worth upping the engagement points, unless all of your riding is really technical uphills.
Fair enough. A mate has a spare 36t set I can chuck in and see if I like it
@@BlueSkyBoys If you get it cheap/free, then why not. A higher engagement feels and sounds better, but on really chunky trails and for example, wheelie-drops, a higher engagement hub will increase pedal kickback, which isn't very good. But it's all about preference. I've ridden extremely low and extremely high engagement hubs, and honestly, I have no trouble switching to a low engagement from a high one, and don't feel like the high engagement gives any benefits, other than in those extremely, extremely challenging uphills, where you need to be insanely precise, but that's only like 0,5% of the riding I do, and even there a low engagement is okay, the higher engagement just feels a bit snappier and precise, that's all. Low engagement is also more durable and often has less drag.
@@th_js all very good points! I’m not usually fussed by engagement and actually love how quiet the 18t is. Especially for GoPro footage. It’s much cheaper than an Onyx hub for the silent effect. Will report back on my experience 🤟
27.5 or 29er
27.5
29er ;)
Yeah looks like 27,5 but I think thats just xl and he is just huge :D
@@gordonbloe6959 hahaha It's actually a large, but I am 6"3 so kinda huge. Love smaller bikes for my style of riding.
Don't get a GX chain. SX-GX chains are crap. Get X01, or XX1, and you'll literally have a chain that lasts many times longer.
i agree, didnt they do a test on the nitride chains(xo1 and xx1) and found they outlast most other chains on the market?
Expensive chain is pointless
depends, with Sram, a chain upgrade is actually a thing unlike shimano, the x01 and xx1 chains are considerably nicer and they legit last much longer.
