drinking in Manchester's dodgiest pubs!

- I walk around Manchester to check out the dingy pubs and try and find a hidden gem, one pub lools like it should be on an estate and another you can't move no matter what time you go in. I have to also hit some 2-4-1 bars as i'm skint so need to strech my money!

looking for a pub on Leeds roughest street - czcams.com/video/0xuEPz9HK_4/video.htmlsi=3N6voBPtJGSU_7xz
Awesome used to seek these pubs out with the ex wife on a saturday afternoon just as Northern Quarter was getting going. Full of characters. Where are you lads from?
Leeds pussy land.
Should come to hull. Do the savoy, robin, Apollo, dart then crows nest. Good old proper pubs.
Sign of a great pub when you walk in and 80’s music blasting out 🤘🏼🫵🏻 🍺
agree can't beat abit of 80's
It was 70s if you mean the bar
The song 'Photograph' by Def Leppard always reminds me of being in a slightly dingy boozer.
@MADCHESTERUTD-oc3ni Those are great tunes.
And sign of a dodgy pub is the people dressed like it's the 80's!
A pint used to be the working man's treat. In 1970 the average price for a pint of beer was 2 shillings and 11 pence. That's £1.70 in today's money. The corporates have hijacked the working man's lifestyle. We're being fleeced. I wish people would stop paying these extortionate prices. £5.70 for a pint is offensive.
That equates to about $10 Canadian dollars. 50 Canadian cents more than my Guinness cost in an Ontario pub today, though I have paid as much as $12 Canadian dollars for the same size Guinness at a different pub.
You lads are braver than me beer in every one of those places looked rough the places themselves all looked rough and being ripped off with the prices ,, all in all think il give those places a big miss
Would that mean a person could get 6 pints per hourly wage then?
When I started working in 1971 I was on 8 quid a week.
So glad I found this channel. Boozing and shitholes, story of my life 😂 (as someone who grew up in South London and now lives in quiet leafy Staffordshire I often travel to dive areas for my 'shithole fix' - I love a good look around the local cess pit) (between say 6am and 1pm of course then it's time to leg it 🤣)
Cheers pal....yeh i love looking at for a dodgy pub, cheeky backstreet or somet 🤣👍
Gotta love shity lil pubs...awwh i misd home (Manchester)
@@-moondust- 100%
@honestplaces and something I always notice is that they do the best food too
@@-moondust- probs because you're too drunk to taste it properly 🤣
the pub landlord is laughing all the way to the bank......🤣😂😅🤣🤣
£5.70 a pint? The sole reason why I don't drink in pubs.
Got one for £2.20 today 😬
You can get 4 cans of San miguel where I live for that......why I dont go out too.
At £5.70 a pint, I think I would have asked for a top up on the Guiness after it had settled. 😀
It's 5.70 in Dublin a pint of Guinness that euro 570 in Manchester is a rip off🤔
€9.95 in dublin
This channel is great! Intentionally looking for the sort of pubs i always end up in accidentally whenever i go somewhere unfamiliar is a brave and entertaining subject matter !
Cheers pal, appreciate it! You know the back street ones are the best! 👍🍺
Can’t even go for a pint now without you weirdos filming.

Nice one mate. I think you're onto a winner doing the dodgy pub reviews. After watching the last one you did, I tried to look up similar videos of people checking out rough pubs, and there's surprisingly few. Looking forward to seeing Dumfries! Cheers 🍻
Appreciate it mate. Yeh this one was more of a mess about but i deffo wanna check out dodgy estate pubs and that and yeh i can't seem to find people doing it so i thought i'd do em myself👍
"IS IT EVEN OPEN ?!" That should be your catchphrase m8😂. Really enjoy your channel, recently subscribed 😉👍
It might have to be! 🤣 cheers pal. Appreciate it
New sub here mate! I love a look around spit and sawdust pubs and dingey dives, cant beat a sticky floor haha
Cheers pal.....lover of the same thing 🤣🍺
I live in Brazil now and this reminds me of home and all the incredible pubs we have. Wonderful channel.
Give me a plastic chair over this any day of the week. Saudade do Brasil.

Head over across the pond for a pub and bar crawl in Chicago and NY, maybe Miami. Talk about dodgy and sketchy scenes. We got 'em 😁 Cheers for this channel.
No you don’t, tit
I'm in my late 50s. When I was in my 20s and 30s I lived for places like this. They dominated my life. Now I can't think of anywhere worse to be. Looking at it I just don't know what the attraction was.
Like you, I'm in my mid-50s & used to frequent pubs like these. In fact, being from Salford, I've actually been in the pubs in this video. And also like you, I genuinely cannot think of anything worse to do than waste a day trawling round these dumps full of no-marks, piss-cans & chavs.
Same just turned 37 last week not been to the boozer since NYE I’m totally over it , couldn’t think of anything worse than turning into the losers who live in there and leave their mrs at home all day it’s sad
Some as that wouldn't be seen dead in one now
It's called being young and stupid, it's all part of the process. Unfortunately, some don't ever grow out of it

Best compliment so far! Cheers pal 👍
Hey buddy, found your channel last week, liking your vlogs pretty cool, i hope your channel grows and everyone give your vids a thumbs up! cheers pal, from down in sunny Southampton!
Cheers pal, appreciate it. Goinfg down south soon 👍
We had a pub on our estate everyone knew each other and if a stranger came in all the pub would go quiet even the juke box was turned down 😂 old uns used to be in on the game too ... anyone who didn’t sup up quick and move on was cheered and given a free pint 😂😂😂 .... and I may add everyone was absolutely sound ❤
Fist pub and OMD Souvenir playing - who wouldn’t want to drink in there 😂
Millstone is a great boozer had some cracking days in there !!
First time watching in my late fifties now and the pubs were rough as f##k in the early eighties if you were a stranger the room would go quiet when you walked in and everyone would stare at you the good old days really enjoyed the video and have subscribed
Like that scene from American Werewolf In London? 🤣 cheers pal 👍
@Zpeter84 Hello to you. Your comment, I know what you mean. ATB.
Yes, i remember back in the early 90's me and my mate camping in remote area of north wales . We decided to go for a pint in the local one night...and the rest is history 😅@@honestplaces
You're paying for the card machine in that price. Cash is king.
Cash on a night out always goes missing with me! 🤣
Use it or lose it
@@PamelaD963 You are SPOT ON! :)
Used to drink in the wheatsheaf in the 90s best pint of old English cider ever, great days.
The Milestone always same vibe, great place haha 🍻
Init!
Love this content, I'm not the most self confident person when it comes to going into a pub on my own but this is a good help for trying to overcome it
I wouldn't bother mate. There are far better places to visit than a pub these days.
Love your videos mate. ♥️
Love the content .. happy travels
Cheers pal. Appreciate it 👍
Karaoke bar looks banging 🤣🤣
It was 🤣
Got yourself a new sub here mate. Great content. 👍
Originally from north London so been in my fair share of shitty pubs.
In Hertfordshire now, Hatfield is as shitty as it gets for me now.
I remember going to the Cat and Fiddle with my pal, places where the bar too is as sticky as the floor 😂
Cheers mate 👍 been in that cat and fiddle....always been a dive that joint 🤣
Just subbed. Places that show a great bit of working class culture. Love it.
The Millstone is a top pub full of characters. Too many poncy gastro pubs these days can't beat a good old boozer 🍺🍺🍺
Yep, it's rarely struggling for customers, thats for sure.
Bit of an old school 90s style nightclub downstairs in the Blockbuster Bar you wouldn't even know it was there.
Was taped off....probs for later init, gotta be better than that upstairs!
Man it is good to see Leroy on the doors of Jacksons looking so well. A top bloke.
Bit too cold, bit too fizzy. Drink ya pint mate. 😂 joke. Cool vid
I'm definitely not missing out by staying away from pubs LOL
Mugs game in the long run pal 👍
Love these pubs bit busier on Saturdays though 😅
Love the elvis guy😂
How people should be enjoying their night!
😂 iam the guy singing someone sent the video to me .
Outside of wheatsheaf wouldn’t say many are too rough! Good video though, the first one you’ve done where I go/have been to
Need to do outskirt pubs next! Cheers pal 👍
Dumfries is a good one tbf - lot of places that look dodgy until you get in there but they're sound... recommend the Hole i' the Wa' for the proper Doonhamer experience
Though if you really want a night to remember, stop just before the border... think you might appreciate Botchergate. It's so lively they close the road on Friday and Saturday nights!
Will make note....Scotland is way too big to get to loads of places 😭
I agree on Dumfries , good craic tho, Carlisle my stomping ground , get in The Rambler on Botchergate ✌🏼
Dumfries 8 or 9 pubs with in 100 yards of each other
The Millstone..Some characters in there!
Banging init
Yeah karaoke is amazing on Saturdays proper laugh 😂
Loving the 80s music
Just found this channel am liking 👍
5.70 a pint lol can get a pack of 4 from the shop for that 🤣🤣
Probs better atmosphere too
Well said. something's wrong if a pint cost more than four cans lof lager
@@cosmicwartoad2587it’s the tax on it.
Strong Polish gear as well
£3.70 at our local also in a working class pigsty
I love it. Reminds of bars in the US.
Nothin like being in a dingy pub pissed up on a Tueseday afternoon to feel that flush of success I have found
Life in the bus lane
jesus that was entertaining, can't wait for your next video
Liking these , Crawley looking like Monaco now .😅
Crawley?
@@honestplaces down sussex , used to frequent years ago , was a tad rough round the edges back then .
Looked quite tame, get yourself to Nottingham City Centre, try The Thurland, Dog & Partridge & Coach & Horses
You're right mate , all got security in the centre now - the real dodgy ones are just on the fringes - where you're on your own.
If i walked into a pub and they had cricket on the telly, I'm walking straight back out. Unless its the middle of summer and there's a beer garden. 😂
🤣🤣🤣 fair enough
Yeah it is so boring
That blockbuster gaff is well just a front 😂
As the Millstone Doorman gotta love the Millstone, Weatsheaf and Unicorn on nights off or after shift pint 😉

Go to Pendlebury estate in Salford and go into the pubs there on Friday evening. That would make interesting viewing
Any good?
the street you had the 2 for 1..is called oldham street....back in the seventies, it had 3 yates, all on the one street...(before yates went upmarket)...we had, top, middle and bottom yates's we called them....they all had sawdust on the floors, and "brass spitoons" all along the bottom of the bar...long wooden tables, and equally long benches, was all you had to sit on...the speciality drink was the "BLOB"...austrailian rough wine, drawn out of huge barrels, behind the bar..so, a blob itself, is made up of half aussie wine, half hot water, tablespoon of sugar, and a slice of lemon to finish it off...after you have had about 4 or 5 blobs in yates..you were ready to hit the discos, which were all over manchester back then....they were really rough places..sort of like a wild west saloon...(guaranteed fights breaking out every night)...i myself, in yates's had many a fight back in those days, it was just the culture back then...but that never put people off...everbody would start their weekend in one, or better still, all three yates..before they went on to the nightclubs...happy days eh!!!
Public Houses gotta love em
Yeah, I'm an old git now but £4 for a pint? I recall a time in 1972 when Boddies was 14p a pint and yes - with one quid, I could buy a small round, get a bag of chips and still have enough for my bus fare home!
I started going in pubs in 1970, still proper money, 10 pints for a pound so two shillings a pint, or in some pubs it was one and tenpence so ten pints and one and eight pence change left which is one shilling and eight pence in proper money Enough for the bus home and some chippy. What glorious days the were and no badgering about non existent climate change or bloody pronouns ( whatever they are)
Mint channel mate , come Stoke lol 👍🏻
A friend lives in one of those council houses near The Wheatsheaf.
When she originally took the property as a teenager - it wasn’t very fashionable to live so close to town and everything was dead around by 8pm except for a few clubs pubs.
Crazy how times have changed - she bought the flat from the council for something silly like £20k and it’s now worth £200,000
Mad! Proper spot to be that if you love a drink!
Cool story bro
Nice
Think that area and even those houses look pretty good!
@honestplaces you said at the end of the Manchester video you were going to Dumfries ? When you uploading that one ? Superb stuff all of these btw...ps : did you not head out to the schemes of Glasgow ? You did the city centre
Yeh i've done too many estates do wanted to hit a center. I'm in Dumfries tonight mate 👍
So do they sell pints and dvds
Fantastic ❤

Millstone is classic!
Banging!
Those bars look sweet. Id love to travel there.
Hey man I like your videos it’s a fun thing that you’re doing. Reckon you’d come to Bury? You’d have plenty content
The Wheatsheaf isn't too bad, I've been in there a few times.
None of them pubs looked dodgy.
I know there's absolutely nothing wrong with the pubs. They just look like pubs to me. Am I missing something?
£5.70 a pint ? double the duty on takeaway beers from shops and half it on the stuff sold in pubs .
Those who are sat in doors with 2 4 packs might be temped to leave their home if it was cheaper to do so .
millstone is ace
You can’t get anymore Manchester than when you walk into a pub and a bloke is singing kinky Afro when you walk in and later the stone roses are blasting out😂
Mondays from Salford pal
Blockbuster is a bar now?? Did I miss a meeting?
Bit of class playing George Harrison though. Lots of decent tunes actually
Yeh there was decent tunes. Blockbuster bar was junk, atmosphere is just off!
I've seen it all now, Blockbuster a pub 😂
It’s themed 90s bar in the northern quarter. Def not rough as with all of the bars in this fashionable area.
There isnt a dodgy pub in town now...now 15 years ago...yeah fuckin right there was
Iv been in some of these and yes hahhaa still awesome places
Blacon estate in Chester has got a propa tasty little pub with a tiny betting shop in the car park…rite on the estate, looks like the shameless pub!

Yeh mad how it changes so much....there is a 2-4-1 where you can get one for £3.60
Manchester city centre's quite gentrified these days. They should have gone outside the centre to the likes of Harpurhey, Droylsden, Eccles.
