I agree. When you compare them Karloff is king but since I love the character so much I see it as each is their own stand alone version and therefore all shall be praised separately on their own merit. Karloff was the first and added a sinister quality, Carrey was more of a trickster with a grudge to settle, and finally Cumberbatch was a lost soul that needed a family but never got one and it made him bitter

I grew up with the original “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” I always thought Boris Karloff was the perfect voice to play the Grinch.
The Grinch that Stole Christmas, and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer two favorite Christmas shows as a kid.
Boris had been a narrator of popular kids stories on WNEW Radio and he really loved kids..even..when he met young people in his monster make ups and costumes..no child was ever scared of him.
While Carrey and Cumberbatch did good jobs with they're portrayals of the iconic Seuss character Karloff will always still be the best version of the character.
Of course, I like the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas cartoons special, the Grinch live action movie and illumination the Grinch movie.
Rest in peace and belated birthday wishes to Boris Karloff Mr Karloff is on the list of entertainers that seem to epitomize the Horror genre. His gentle side made him perfect to play the Grinch

My favorite since childhood
Don't forget Thurl Ravenscroft! (He sang "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch").
And also Chuck Jones, whom also directed many great Looney Tunes shorts and also made the Tom and Jerry cartoons during that time! And also directed the Grinch special also from 1966.
And speaking of Chuck himself, he created my father’s favorite cartoon characters, Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner.

Boris Karloff is the best Grinch voice.
As a lifelong Karloff fan, I can say that he would've been proud of this segment.
Pre-Covid I taught pre-school. When I would read this story to my kids, I did my best Karloff impersonation, inflections and all. Even the parents loved it!

"The Grinch" is the only christmas move i willingly watch.
CBS somehow forgot to mention how Boris Karloff's "Grinch" voice was achieved - apparently in the recording sessions, Karloff spoke in the entire special using his "narrator" voice. When it came to the Grinch's dialogue, the highs of his voice were removed mechanically presumably by the sound engineer(s) making the Grinch's voice come off as gravelly.

Actually, Dr. Seuss himself was the Grinch, in a much more literal sense - the way he told it he just looked in the mirror and saw the Grinch looking back at him. He wrote the book because he himself wasn't a fan of Christmas, and even dropped a hint - you know the Grinch says he's put up with it "For 53 years" - guess how old Seuss was when he wrote the book?
I miss Boris Karloff. I miss Vincent Price. They were giants. The Grinch just isn’t the Grinch without him.🤗🤗🤗🤗💗💗💗💗💋🌟🌟🌟

I only watch the Grinch to hear Boris Karoff! He is the perfect voice for the Grinch. This is the only Grinch I will ever watch because of Boris Karloff!
To me there is only one Grinch and it isn't Jim Carrey. Nothing against him at all but the original was the only one needed.
Karloff is in my opinion THE Grinch. (NOT Jim Carrey) I met his daughter Sara at the Orinda Theatre years ago. She was terrific.

Boris Karloff as The Grinch was more of Chuck Jones' choice. Dr. Seuss didn't really wants Karloff to does the voice of The Grinch because he will sounds too scary for the kids and probably also sounds too much like a villain.
Tim Curry was actually considered to play the Grinch in the live action version. Now he would have sounded scary, especially more so than Karloff.
@@bensonmeier9808Those are not scary, but I You're The Mean One horror movie is which is terrible to make. We only like How the Grinch Stole Christmas cartoon special, the Grinch live action movie and illumination the Grinch movie better than the childhood ruined horror movie.

I WAS THE ONLY KID ON THE BLOCK WHO KNEW CARTOON CHARACTERS WERE VOICED BY PEOPLE LOL SO ONE DAY I ASKED MY GRANDMOTHER WHO PLAYED THE GRINCH "BORIS KARLOFF,HE DID HORROR" WAS HER RESPONSE I WAS 7 WHEN WH HAD THAT DISCUSSION 23 YEARS LATER IM STILL WATCHING THE GRINCH EVERY! CHRISTMAS! I WATCH HIS MOVIES CONSTANTLY AND IM DELIGHTED TO SAY BORIS'S BDAY IS THE DAY AFTER MINE NOVEMBER 23 THOUGH ALMOST 100 YEARS BEFORE MINE LOL 😆

Any version of the Grinch is iconic and classic, but i prefer Jim Carrey in my opinion , but the original is the origin story , rip to the original voice of the Grinch , but in my opinion, i wouldn’t watch it on xmas day i would watch before or after xmas day so i can stay in the holiday spirit for the day, and then celebrate any other holidays after that
