The real reason why V tried to stab Dante in Devil May Cry 5 - mini lore video

  • I have so many thoughts on dmc and always wanted to talk about it - about other games as well - but I always held myself back because I didn't wanted to commentate through a video ( my voice is kinda weak and all that :3 )
    but then I thought why not experiment with a text-based video to explain something. Turned out pretty okay and simple~ hope you liked it :3
    quick side note: I didn't mention, but when V says "if only you never existed, then I..." when he raises the sword, he really has negative feelings about Dante - this explained in the Visions of V manga, where V at this point recalls Vergil's struggles towards Dante, feeling like he is weaker than him and he always just held him back and he is the one responsible for pushing him down on this path
    - meaning Dante got sheltered in the closet by their mother when the demons attacked and he survived, while Vergil got assaulted and abandoned outside - this is also what later Vergil refers to, when he says "that day, if our positions were switched - would I have your life..."
    At this moment he plays with the idea of finishing the job and take revenge. But eventually V gets himself together, because he knows they need Dante's help.

    The point I was making with this video, is showing how V saying "I thought this might be the only way to wake you", is could be interpreted as a reference to the cutscene in dmc 3, when Vergil stabs Dante, and as a conscequence, his devil trigger awakens - and the reason why I'm explaining V is thinking like Vergil and have his memories, is to help people give a context of this observation. It might be obvious to you, but not for others. V is a difficult character to understand, and most players didn't read visions of V - so please be understanding

    I've been thinking about this: its hard to tell if he literally becomes vergil's consciousness, or just having a confusion of memories and identity and thats why he refers to vergil in first person - but I think its possible that as he regains his memories he becomes vergil's full human version with the same consciousness - I mean so basically if he is the same person but in a different body - that would explain why he refers to vergil in complete first person

      V has 100% of Vergil's memories and thoughts, he is literally Vergil, just without his power
      So no, he doesn't have fragmented memories either or his "evil" part stayed with Urizen.
      And he only chose the name V to avoid being discovered by Dante (He chose this name after looking at the gigantic V that he made in Vergil's poetry book)
      This is made much clearer in the official DMC 5 Manga "Visions Of V"

    dante has a fetish for being shishkebobbed

    Interesting how v is the representation of vergils humanity and not a proper human
    Just as urizen is the representation of Virgil’s desires for power and control
    It’s not that they are the real things there more like echos of vergils personality and abilities
    Like how v has sword skills
    And urizen uses magic
    And the familiars are all of v’s negative feelings personified
    And when Vergil merged he was missing those pieces which makes him seem oddly mature compared to earlier games
    They really thought hard on the plot

    • @Countdownsmiles
      @Countdownsmiles Před 5 měsíci +2

      Except that Vergil has no reason to personify his negative feelings through Griffon, Shadow and Nightmare, it's not like they shared a bunk bed. If his "negative feelings" were to give form they should have Mundus' form, not his lackies. Not to mention Vergil's entire motivation has been retconned, and instead of the regret of not having the power to protect his mother despite being a demon, the son of the demon who repelled an army single-handedly, he now despises his mother for not trying to protect him and protecting his twin instead, something he's corrected of later, and all he has to say about it is "it doesn't matter" the character who says "motivation" as a catchphrase has none in this game. The qliphoth wasn't even his idea, he just eats the fruit and sits on top with nothing to do but watch humans die, waiting for someone to show up so he can fight. He seriously has no business being in the game written specifically for him. It's insulting

    • @noin4223
      @noin4223 Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@Countdownsmiles what does the first sentence even mean. he did not personify them consciously lol, but the lackies were most likely made specifically for V's character/gameplay, doesn't take a genius to understand it. the idea of using familiars was fresh and great. they fit V's style much more than some big bad mundus ghost.
      where does it say he despises his mother? they just added to his insecurities more by making him feel not only helpless but betrayed/left alone. if anything, him thinking eva abandoned him when she was actually attacked by demons WHILE searching for him gives it more flair and tragedy, and explains his animosity towards dante more and why he never looked for him despite knowing he was alive (vision of v and dmc3 manga both confirm it). everything's still the same - feeling inferior when not being in control and using power to have that control have always been his thing because of the trauma, and it's still there. he came back from losing to dante at least twice despite having power, which is a huge deal to him, and now he is losing both control and power despite embracing his demonic nature that he considers more powerful. i think this + V's experience + urizen memories of dante telling the truth about their mother all are the things that forced him to question things later, before the final battle.
      "it doesn't matter" can be interpreted in different ways tbh, but in general you have to probably consider that both v and urizen, while parts of vergil, are most likely exaggerated when separated from him. so "it doesn't matter" perfectly fits his pure demon form, no? can't imagine urizen suddenly having common sense and stopping everything just because it turns out vergil wasn't abandoned. his feelings are more complex than that i am sure.
      the only unexplainable retconned thing about vergil is probably him literally exploding in dmc1 and then coming back somehow

      @Countdownsmiles Před 3 měsíci

      @@noin4223 Conscious or not Griffon, Shadow and Nightmare have literally nothing to do with Vergil. waving it away because oh v needed gameplay is completely retarded. His gameplay could have been anything, his design could have been anything, he was a blank slate and they chose the form that made no sense. That shouldn't take a genius to understand, but apparently nobody at capcom was smart enough to see how stupid it is.

      I'm pretty sure the Devil Sword Sparda and Rebellion contained Sparda's own power. If I'm not mistaken Sparda split his power three ways, each portion going into the Rebellion, Yamato and Force Edge respectively so in a way Dante completely absorbed two thirds of his father's power into himself
      which also now that I think about it really puts into perspective the power of the Qliphoth fruit or Sparda, whatever way you wanna think about it
      Dante having absorbed two thirds of Sparda's power and Vergil with the Qliphoth fruit + Yamato (remember, that's one third of Sparda's power) were equally matched

      2. He connected to Qlipooth which give him amount supply of energy
      3. He using humans blood which also one of Demon power source to getting stronger, for a freakin month.
      4. He indirectly called Sparda power ain't shit even when Dante use that, considering Dante is already surpasses Sparda by DMC 2 and Urizen stomp him, 3 times infact.
      5. The same Dante who by vol 02 novel, kill the strongest version of Mundus in alternate universe, where he won and conquer both realms and become Void(yeah he literally become Void himself) who also nexus to both realms(Nexus is a power source, think about Mundus as generator to power up the electricity energy in entire country) and also killed Sparda.
      6. Dante also received some power boost from Qlipooth when he was in coma state for a month, not only absorbed Sparda and Rebellion, he also got boost from that Tree.
      Not saying Sparda is weak, but if you compare him to Urizen or Dante, he's clearly out of league.

    i also think why Vergil separated his Demon and human self is a callback to Arkham.
    Arkham claimed that Vergil is "incomplete" being as a Demon/Human Hybrid.

    Virgils Yamato separates man and devil.
    Virgil would go on as V and witness the chaos of Urisan and he would feel responsible. Vergil would final be a better person as he fused together again and accept his Humanity he always have discarded even reflecting on the clyflox.
    *"If I had your life and you had mine? Would things be different"*
    Dante would grow to accept his demon half because of the rebellion. He would fuse with the Devil Sword Sparda.

    One thing that confuses me is the idea that V is "regaining" Vergil's memories
    I've read Visions of V and VOV makes it seem like he remembers everything from the start, when he plans to meet Dante he and Griffon talk about Dante in a way that clearly shows V sees Dante as his brother and is nervous to see him again after so long - V also appears to be tormented by Vergil's memories right from the start too, seeing visions of DMC3 Dante before he even goes to the Devil May Cry shop (which is also a cool detail that he sees DMC3 Dante since that would be the last time Vergil saw Dante, not counting when he was Nelo Angelo in DMC1)
    Also the scene where V talks about "this town was attacked once before, in fact I was playing right here" in Visions of V Vergil isn't playing in that scene, he runs off to read his book after an argument with Dante and his mother and is attacked by demons
    My point here being it might be possible that VOV takes canon priority and retcons the idea of V regaining Vergil's memories, if I'm not mistaken the DMC4 novel Deadly Fortune did this so it's not out of the question that VOV retcons a few things and takes canon priority over V's character

Little Vergil argued with Dante and his mother, saying he was going to read his book(but left his book at home, actually.), then he was sitting on that horse-shaped chair, and having some little complain on Dante and mommy.I suppose here is no any modifications to the game plot?
      And, about the contradictions between V said "have just remembered something." in the game plot, and the fact in VoV said V had the whole memory at first. It could be that it had been a long long time, so even V had a complete memory of Vergil,he still couldn't recall it clearly until he came to the place in the memory.(Also, it's really a bad nightmare to him……too hard to think about everythings happend at that day.)
