Buu Saga Gohan - Worse Than Resurrection F

- Gohan is the biggest disgrace in the Dragon Ball Z Buu Saga. Perhaps more than he was in Resurrection F and that's saying something. Did anyone notice how Gohan trained with Goten? Did anyone notice his attitude and performance from the moment the Buu Saga started up until he got in the ring with Kibito and turned Super Saiyan 2? It's time to put the truth out there of just how weak and pitiful Gohan was at this point of Dragon Ball Z. It's easy to overlook when he's joined by Goku and Vegeta in some action packed scenes. But, take another look at Gohan and you'll see why he's a disgraceful warrior.

Goddamn role model
Gohan should have been written to have lost the ability to go super saiyan by the start of boo. Reset himself to how he was before training under piccolo, have the arc be about him rediscovering himself, his relationships with the Z fighters, his saiyan roots... instead we get the trope of gohan and beast mode
@@SaiyanScholar Now you're just trying to be a contrarian and get clicks dude!! 😒 This take is not it!! That's why your channel has fallen off
Being a child celebrity and peaking at 11 tends to fuck you up later in life.
Hey, that's me!
Gohan doesn't suck, he just became what he wanted to be.
Hey hey! I'm assessing him based on Power and Warrior mentality only. Scholar wise, he keeps getting better!
Okay, that's true then. Failure of a warrior most definitely. Imagine falling off that hard, and not realizing you actually fell off.
It was the whole Goten thing for me. How can a Super Saiyan not see a Base Form user throwing a brick 🤔 😭
@@SaiyanScholar I can't tell you just how many times I've been ridiculed for someone not interpreting the mindset that I'm approaching it from. I'll say, take the warrior mentality, Gohan didn't train, he's really selling that, and then mfs wanna bring up how he studies n shit. Did I say I was taking the nerd side this time? No. I can write a book or two about that if that were the topic, but it's not.
To be honest, this misinterpreted mindset situation is a bigger problem when you talk about Chi Chi and Goku as parents. If you speak from the warrior side and try to point out any of the issues that Chi Chi has with raising a partial Saiyan child, you get the defense that everyone already knows.
Personally, I liked how they chose to do Gohan in the buu saga because it shows the consequences of why he should take his training seriously, which leads into unlock his ultimate form what I don’t like, is the fact that super decides to not follow up on that 💀
Agreed
So basically, the same defense that people use for RoF Gohan? Nothing wrong with that, just... interesting.
Neither does GT. Gohan has to learn that he needs to get off his butt and train rather than just study all the time more than 3 separate times following the Cell Saga in two timelines.
@@immortalfrieza GT Gohan never stopped training. It’s been stated in the data books. Go look.
I thought that beast was the super version of Ultimate Gohan.
I think they brought Nimbus back for nostalgia since Goku was dead at this point. That's all. There's literally no need for it other than that
Gohan can catch a baseball in front of the girls at school and catch a hundred bullets getting shot at him at point blank range while a ssj on his way to school but can't catch one potara earing when it comes to saving the world, no wonder he started wearing glasses afterwards, that's gotta be bad writing bruh
Yes, truly disgraceful, the Great Saiyaman would never have such a disgraceful fall, I tell you!
Because unlike Gohan, the Great Saiyaman is the GOAT 🗣️🗣️🗣️
I'd personally argue that Resurrection F Gohan is worse, on the grounds that he did not learn his lesson from the Buu saga until (at minimum) the Tournament of Power.
Except the reason isn’t strong enough to push aside his career and family life. I mean Goku fell in the same trap when focusing as a farmer.
@@DarkEclipse23 except for the fact that you are incorrect for a couple reasons.
1) Goku did not "fall into that trap". He figured out a way to continue training while still doing his job, and even then he frequently used Instant Transmission to play hooky and train with Whis, Beerus and Vegeta (with DBS Broly later joining the mix according to the manga). And if Goku could figure out a schedule that lets him balance training with his family life, then Gohan (who is much smarter and "has higher potential" than Goku) should be easily capable of figuring out a schedule that works even better for him than Goku's did for himself.
2) non-canon or not, the GT Vegeta's dialogue with Baby directly implies that Gohan did not, in fact, fall into that pitfall, and instead GT Gohan figured out a routine that lets him get in enough training without compromising GT Gohan's family life or career. That GT Gohan did, in fact, learn the same lesson that DBS Gohan failed to learn.
Hell, we even see beforehand that being "gimmick villain" with actual intelligence is literally the only reason Baby was able to get the better of that version of Gohan in the first place.
"Retired from main action" or not, GT Gohan would have stood a significantly better chance for most of Super than his canon counterpart.
I could go further, but keeping this is already turning into a wall of text due to my "comprehensive > brief" mindset.
@@DarkEclipse23 Goku didn't focus on farming. He let his 7-year-old drive a tractor and do the farming while he trained. lol
@@DarkEclipse23 Gohan could have easily found an hour a day to train and still found plenty of time to be with his family and pursue his career. Especially with things like the Gravity Chambers on hand.
@@lordnul1708 "Goku did not "fall into that trap". He figured out a way to continue training while still doing his job, and even then he frequently used Instant Transmission to play hooky and train with Whis, Beerus and Vegeta (with DBS Broly later joining the mix according to the manga)."
Goku didn't start doing that until after Super started and Whis and Beerus showed up. The whole farming thing was idiotic to begin with considering Goku could've effortlessly made a living with his abilities, Gohan too for that matter. There's countless ways Goku could've made enough money to be filthy rich with his powers. Even if Goku actually wanted to farm he could've done it by hand much faster and more effectively than he would with a tractor. He was doing farming for training back in Dragonball better and faster than he's doing in Super. By Super he could've tended to his whole field and then some in the space of literally a few seconds and had the rest of the day to spend time with his family and to train.
It just makes it even more sad of how we were robbed of Gohan's character arc in this saga thanks to Goku coming back and stealing the limelight.
There was all this build-up, Gohan getting humbled repeatedly. Vegeta's comments; Goten being able to match him; Dabura beating him; Even Goku seeming disappointed.
Then Gohan saying he couldn't get angry like he used to.
As cool as Ultimate Gohan was, it's still a huge disappointment that the power was given to him and nothing was done with it because Goku. I've said this many time but I really wish he would've had to have learnt how to tap into and control his anger. Perhaps have Vegeta teach him how to control his oozaru form - so much so that he taps into that power in base and that becomes the foundation for Ultimate. Heck, even having taught the fundamentals of ki control to Videl could've sparked something in him that either helps him learn something new or sparks an interest in mastering ki in a scolarly way as other media have portrayed.
I dunno, it just feels like Gohan was being set up for an arc, but Toriyama didn't commit to it and just gave up. Giving Gohan a cheap powerup as a quick send-off.
All considering, Gohan never had any interaction with any normal human before. Ofcourse he would feel special and over confident after meeting all the normal humans without any super power. Good thing Goten was there for Gohan. He would be super dead against fat boo without the few days training
We need to discuss what they did to piccolo...😡😡😡😡😡
Nice thumbnail bro uve gotten great at editing
I can’t focus on the video without the circles on the thumbnail
Honestly, the problem is that original Dragonball and Z follow two different formulas and when original Dragonball is put into Z it feels out of place. High school Gohan is just dripping with the charm of the original Dragonball. I love the nod with the humor and quirkiness, but it feels so strange after the full on Z version of Gohan defeating Cell. GT also suffers from this problem as Z fans hate all the OG Dragonball in it especially kid Goku.
I do sometimes wish that Toriyama had kept a separate Dragonball storyline that followed the original formula alongside the combat and spectacle focused Z formula stories.
Nah. As someone who loved both OG Dragonball and Z I can tell you the problem with both High School Gohan and GT isn't that they have the OG Dragonball formula, it's that they don't. High School Gohan completely lacks the elements that made OG Dragonball entertaining to begin with, while GT didn't start getting decent until it dropped its bad attempts to mimic OG Dragonball and just starting getting down to the fighting.
Hard times with Goku create strong Gohan, strong Gohan create good times, good times create weak Gohan, and weak Gohan without Goku create weaker Gohan. Future Gohan become stagnant because Goku wasnt around to push him.
I bet the rock that Krillin threw at Goku is stronger than this Gohan
:P
This is one of the best thumbnails you have so both disrespectful and hilarious at the same time😂
PS Gohan Resurrection F is personally for me more disappointing since at point of his life he shouldn't realize that he need to maintain a level of training at almost all times.
Personally for me gohan during buu saga was really amazing and badass and seeing him become ultimate gohan was really amazing in my opinion.
Ultimate Gohan was the worst. It was a cop out to get Gohan's power up... and he ended up not doing anything but becoming absorption fodder for Buu anyway as a result of not learning the lesson he should have learned after his arrogance and overconfidence got his own father killed back in the Cell Games. The whole thing was a tease that only contributed to Gohan's terrible characterization in that saga.
@@immortalfrieza fair enough
@@immortalfrieza stop making stuff up, goten and trunks got in his way.
@@padraig-bobotia-maria5176 No, the fact that Gohan was so freaking arrogant is what got in his way. He could've blasted Super Buu into nothingness immediately, but he made the exact same mistakes he made at the Cell Games and played around with Buu instead.
@@immortalfrieza lies, he was ready to end buu then goten and trunks got in the way.
Hey Saiyan Scholar, can you please do “What if DBZ Broly came back in the Super 17 Saga in Dragon Ball GT”?
Gohan really should've trained during those 7 years. He didn't have to train intensely every single day like Goku and Vegeta do, but at least train on the weekends or something. He probably wouldn't have been as strong as Goku and Vegeta, but he definitely would've been stronger than he originally was in the Buu saga.
The real reason Gohan doesn't train both leading up to the Buu Saga and afterward is because with even a little consistent training and his potential he would've left Goku and Vegeta in the dust, and Toriyama wanted Goku in the lead again.
He also went soft. His anger never boiled in school due to his overconfidence in saving the city. He was essentially de-clawed as a fighter.
Travel fatigue seemed to be established before buu saga. I dont know if you ever had to travel miles by foot but it also gets old when you have too as opposed to wanting to
Yea, wtf is up with Base Gohan needing a 25-50x boost from SSJ against BASE, KID, GOTEN???
That Nimbus travel section before just an appetizer for the later shit.
So… why did the writers think this was a good direction? Cuz nobody seems to like this.
It's because Toriyama wanted Goku to take the lead again, so he had Gohan not train for seven years in order to avoid having Gohan render Goku irrelevant. Then he character assassinated Gohan to ensure viewers would want Goku back in the lead again to seal the deal.
One of those super ants coulda probably beat him
Buu saga gohan is a real circus clown😂😂
This is the video containing so many of the thoughts that I've been waiting to bring up to literally anybody. When mfs complain about RoF, I point out the Buu Saga to show them that the issue is repeating itself, and NOT being new. Getting upset at him not training isn't the problem; it's that he already LEARNED this lesson. It's similar to how Gohan, as a kid, realized he must fight when he doesn't want to, but then tries to back out against Cell before being forced to snap into SSJ2.
Gohan in the Cell Games is a perfect example of the start of Gohan's character assassination. He suddenly hates fighting after going almost 3 sagas not having any issue with fighting. The Buu Saga was just an extension of this character assassination. This is despite the fact that the Cell Games should've rammed it into Gohan's head that he needed to train and defend the Earth.
Gohan just tried to reason with cell since he could not bring his rage out at will, that scene is misunderstood
@@brunaciompi1717 But it's still a partial character assassination into a rewrite when he's previously defined to be willing to jump into any battle. There wasn't any character development over Gohan becoming a pacifist besides Chi Chi telling to hit the books, and with Goku partially supporting that despite needing Gohan to beat Cell. Interestingly, it's the filler that shows Gohan's school interest, which isn't Toriyama's vision, yet GT makes Gohan train more than he does in Super, despite Super not including the filler in its own canon.
And before someone argues against it, yes, he absolutely was defined in this way. He had character development as early as the Saiyan Saga, and it was thanks to Nappa, of all people, that he gained an heir of confidence. He learned that some are irredeemable even before Goku, yet he stands there, "I don't like to fight... ... I don't want to kill anybody... Not even somebody as awful as you." against Cell, only moments after saying he'd give it a try. Though I think.. the stronger issue with this scene is that it defines a moment, and that moment gets misunderstood by anyone trying to write Gohan back into the story.
Cell had already killed countless people but in that moment he was just building his narcissism up in a meaningless tournament so Gohan naively thought he could reason with him instead of losing himself to his anger since he must have already had an inkling on how rage made him more aggressive
He didn’t speed blitz the robbers because no matter how much he controls his power, if he hits a human at the speed of light then that’s infinite mass would implode us and the speed of sound is still enough to blow a hole through us
Except that Gohan is perfectly capable of speed blitzing the robbers without even putting a scratch on them if he wanted to.
@@Himathyyy yeah but Hercule took a hit from perfect cell
the thing is...gohan was up front and having fun around then, and in a way that was attached to the general vibes of the series.
Super Gohan is off doing something else entirely. he's checked out of the plot until the plot comes to drag him in.
I love you're video's
If Gohan trained for 7 years, hiim being Super Saiyan 2 would've been stronger than Super Saiyan 3 Goku
He probably could’ve discovered 3 on his own
I love the new thumbnail style please keep doing it Scholar it's great
Buu saga Gohan was arrogant and thought he didn't need to train after achieving his new found power. Revival of F Gohan is self aware he was slacking off on his training and got beat badly by Frieza within one shot.
you know that training with goku in time chamber left gohan as one of experts since he controlled his super saiyan strength as to NOT murder those thugs with a slap yet alone punch
OR
he was so weak goddamnit
he was flying faster as a kid
it's almost poetic seeing gohan commit the same mistake goku did when he was a kid
goku beat king piccolo and thought himself to be the strongest in the world until popo humbled his ass
gohan killed mr perfect cell and thought nobody could match him ever again
not even vegeta who kept training to be the hardest saiyan around
I had no idea that the Bandana was orange in the Manga.
This really is a late teen gohan
No lie that really pissed me off he doesn’t have to be like his dad and train as much as him but he needs to get his ass in gear and atleast be somewhat prepared because in the movie that was just disgraceful he shouldn’t have been that outmatched compared to Frieza he didn’t learn shit after Cell and damn sure wasted the power he gained during Buu
well well well what a funny thumbnail

Gotta Say you cooked with that One👍
This is the difference between the battle genius Vegeta and the scholar Gohan. One can train on his own a grow and the other needs to be taught everything
You know that Gohan only got weaker due to the fact that he didn't train some he could have got his hands up while he wasn't doing anything because he wasn't working like you said. I would have tried to get my hands up to par because he already knew that a new danger would come by idk why he didn't train.
I think Gohan should have been powerful enough to just tank getting hit by a rock so he shouldn't have been afraid of getting hit. I thought that was pretty embarrassing.
2:58 dragonball speeds have always been inconsistent at times tho
Gotta disagree with you here, yes Gohan has innate strength, but personality-wise he only showed interest in fighting or attaining power when either, watching some watching someone he knows getting attacked or because his father was around, and since neither came into play, his deterioration was inevitable, that's just his nature. With Goten and the rock throwing I just think Toriyama used that to comedic effect and with Nimbus that's just playing up Dragon Ball nostalgia and Toriyama forgetting speed consistency.
Gohan never had any problem fighting until the Cell Games when he suddenly hated it. In the Saiyan Saga he was inexperienced and scared, but part of his growth in that saga was getting over that. After that, Gohan had no issues fighting and enjoyed fighting and training. Besides, Gohan's actions in the Cell Games leading to Goku's death should have shown to him that he needs to train and prepare.
@@immortalfrieza I didn't say he couldn't fight, I said it wasn't his thing, it didn't interest him. His father could find fun/fulfillment in combat, but he couldn't. Again most of his battles pre-Cell involved witnessing someone get attacked. In regards to Gohan from the Cell Saga not learning from his actions, the whole point about his character is that he may have education, but he isn't smart or wise. He has knowledge, but he can't put two and two together.
@@lonelyboyadventurer1033 Wrong. Gohan had no issues with fighting up until the Cell Games. Gohan enjoyed fighting up until he suddenly didn't. Gohan's character also never had anything to do with not being smart or wise.

I showed someone dragon ball for the first time as an episode was on.
It was the one about this great Saiya man.
Needless to say they were perplexed that anyone watches this show. Terrrrrrrible
Nah ressurection f, that aint gohan thats micheal
Actually I doubt that for the first time they went back to power levels and said how much a gohan was struggling with someone as strong as ginu only literally being weaker than android saga gohan till super sayion pre super sayion even
weak vs strength
Ive seen other dragon ball youtubers say ss2 gohan at the world tournament could still defeat cell even though hes weaker. I guess nostalgia wise i just loved ss2 gohan especially when he transformed at the tournament. I really wanted to see what he coulda done to spopavich and yamu had supreme kai not interfered. I know gohan got nerffed badly :(
but RoF Gohan had to turn SSJ against Dodoria level villain. Yes, he oneshotted the guy but it was someone with a power level of 24,000

Hey I think it would be a good video topic to discuss the scaling of SSB kaioken Goku vs hit. I could be wrong but in theory shouldn't okay okay in SSB make him stronger than even beerus
Cool
Why does the color manga version of Great Saiyaman have an orange durag when it was white in literally everything else? Did the guy in charge of coloring mix it up with the helmet or something?
And why does it feel like that's not the only color error that I've noticed from just this video?
How many more videos can you make about dragon ball as it doesn’t have infinite episodes
I'll keep going somehow
GrandTour & Super’s Gokou Black & T.O.P Saga (anime & manga ver) and Moro Saga are best Gohan.
Also Time Patrol Gohan has a great design.
Future gohan> every other gohan. He put the ham in Go-ham
Hold on. Namek goku rushed them at super sonic speeds if he did that to a human the speed itself might kill them. If we take account of cells using the kamehameha and how goku freaked about him putting in so much power then id have to note that the z fighters are actively canceling out what unrestrained power does to their surroundings. Even krillin only uses those speeds against actual fighters. Super is the only part of the story that confirms it in words but even grand kai tells them the kai planet is sturdy enough for the battle.
Seven years of no training
Have you ever had chicken before ?
Buu arc is BS
You want the real reason Gohan sucks so bad in those days!? He spent all that time with Chi-chi and she made him weaken himself with studying. His brain got stronger where his body got weaker. When Gohan Studies he loses his fighting skills Super Hero proves this point when he couldn't sense Piccolo even after he does the same window knock of dragging his finger down the window.

You know this is just one of the reasons why I like GT Gohan and future Gohan far better then early Buu saga are Dragon Ball super Gohan.
But in my opinion Dragon Ball super utterly disgrace Gohan's character because at least early Buu saga Gohan could at least maintain the Super Saiyan form and could power up in that form while Dragon Ball super Gohan nearly died just trying to maintain Super Saiyan.
I mean you would figure that character development would have kicked in with Dragon Ball super Gohan like it did with GT Gohan because the accordingly to the GT perfect files Gohan never neglected his training and found the equal balance even in the times of peace.
I mean GT Gohan it's already taking on forces of threats far above Majin Buu just like Goten did and Trunks.
But I don't think there's any version of Gohan that is worse then Dragon Ball super Gohan who neglected his training which led to Frieza being able to be an actual threat when Gohan should have easily been able to have dealt with him even with golden Frieza Gohan should have been able to demolish golden Frieza but noises bad writing and plot.
GT Gohan wasn't much better. He still didn't train much if at all and got so weak he was no longer Mystic. Super Gohan was just even worse than that.

@@immortalfrieza no actually GT Gohan was way stronger than he was during the Majin Buu saga he already had his Mystic state mastered in Dragon Ball GT if you actually read the GT perfect files it clearly states that GT Gohan never stop training.
And as far as Goku in GT no character was going to be as powerful except for maybe Vegeta but understand that was the plot of Dragon Ball GT.
GT was meant to showcase just how powerful an intelligent Goku had become ever since Dragon Ball Z and regular Dragon Ball in what more thing to note General rilldo was already stated by Goku to be far above Majin Buu and baby took over General rilldo gaining his power making baby even stronger in General rilldo and when baby came to Earth he fought Goten and use Goten's body making Goten even stronger then baby was previously and Gohan was taking him on Goten who is controlled by baby who is far above Majin Buu casually.

"couldnt he just deal with that high speeds" no where in the show was this an established ability of gohan. His main trait is he's afraid of accidently hurting people.
