In this video I go through some of the challenges and strategies playing Steve Vai's phenomenal guitar workout "The Attitude Song" from the Flex-Able album.
Awesome stuff Chanan. Flex-able has some really amazing playing from Steve, fresh from Zappa's band with all that challenging material still in his head/hands and still yet to develop the legato and tapping we hear on Passion & Warfare. It was a game changer for me as a guitarist of a couple of years. Thanks for showing once again that this kind of music is possible to play by us mortals if we just practice it......for a few decades :)
I agree, Flex-Able has some amazing playing and in many ways, the album was quite ahead of its time. Tune in next week as I'll be posting an interview I had with Steve Vai about the making of both "Flex-Able" and "Passion and Warfare". Best wishes.
In addition to the proto-Vai virtuosity, I still say Flex-able has some of his best songwriting. Forever ago, I saw Steve (with the amazing Mike Keneally and Phil Bynoe in his band) live in Dallas, and they played "Call it Sleep". The venue lost its collective mind.
Brilliant! And snap, my first electric was a fiesta red Marlin Slammer I bought 4th hand for £40 in '91😊 now changing hands for up to £200! I'd be interested in what Steve Vai makes of your arrangement too...
such great concepts and you make it look so effortless in execution! especially the sections where you're aim is to capture multiple guitars (4:57), truly great stuff.
If there`s a tune I`d love to see you dissect by Vai....Voodoo Acid. the 3 min mark onwards is just so good, got that Indian/Eastern flavour and it consumes me every time I hear it - love your channel and work Chanan 👍
as with a few vai things this is a song that just physically defeats me i understand it but my body refuses to cooperate your version is playable (not by me), "guitaristic," very wise
Honestly Chanan, you're a stonking musician. I can only dream of having a 10th of your talent. Keep up the excellent work.
Thank you very much! Best wishes.

@@ChananHanspal I’ve been looking forward to that since you mentioned it :)
Love your in depth analysis into these tunes man. Steve would (will) be stoked!
Hahahaaa! I love it! Especially the nasty chord at the end! Great job!
I can hear inka roads runs in there!
Lovely... the 6min Beatles to Mixolydian section is sublime
Tremendous as always.
This is so awesome. Thank you so much for sharing your experience, resolve, and learnings... so great!

And that's all there is to it.
This is exactly the kind of content I love. Your playing is amazing and I love the arrangements you come up with. I wish I could play this.
Thank you very much Jeff. Best wishes.
Thanks for this post ...great explanation. Greetings from Argentina !!!

Jaw-dropping.

My first electric was a marlin sidewinder ( I think I swapped it for a motorbike when I was 15 😅)
@4:55 - a man trying to come to terms with life, the universe and everything!
Brilliant. Has your great (interview) friend Steve Vai started asking you for lessons yet?
Hello Chanan, are you based in London? I would like to have my son learning from you, he’s got potential 👍👍 cheers

Well if it's any consolation it is certainly not easy to play, so don't be too hard on yourself. Thanks for watching and best wishes.
first lick is wrong
