Venetian is a Romance language spoken natively in the northeast of Italy, mostly in the Veneto region, where most of the five million inhabitants can understand it. It is sometimes spoken and often well understood outside Veneto: in Trentino, Friuli, the Julian March, Istria, and some towns of Slovenia and Dalmatia (Croatia) by a surviving autochthonous Venetian population, and Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Mexico by Venetians in the diaspora.
The Triestine language is a dialect of Venetian spoken in the city of Trieste. Many words in Triestine are taken from other languages. As Trieste borders with Slovenia and was under the Habsburg monarchy for almost six centuries, many of the words are of German and Slovene origin. Due to extensive emigration to the city in the late 18th and 19th centuries, many words also came from other languages, such as Greek and Serbo-Croatian.

It's still quite hard to believe that languages as common as Spanish and as weird as Walloon all descended from one language spoken by a small tribe in Latium.

Why calling it Triestine language if it's just a dialect of Venetian? Many words in Triestin were Just Venetian words written with a way more Italianized grammar (and no one says "uno" in Venetian, only "un"/"ón"/"an"/"en", without any O after the N)
Triestine derives from the old venetian settlement in Istria, but it has also a lot in common with friulian, which is spoken in the north, in the hinterland.
Triestino is colonial Venetian, Friulian was spoken in Trieste until 1800
Aaaah, that explains why it sounds so much closer to Venetian (and Italian) than to the Friulan I heard
@@bacicinvatteneaca Well' it derives from venetian. It has still some similarities with friulian. We must consider this without introducing italian, since this last one is a literary language (lingua franca) and was learnt only at school. Venetian, triestine and also friulian become on the contrary directly from latin.

@@TheDovahkiin97 not true.. there are thousands of speakers, even among younger people. I also don't think Cherso has too many people who can speak it because most of the native population has been replaced by now
There are still venetian varieties spoken in Istria, alongside with istriot, istroromanian and slavic varieties. Latin speakers often speak also italian. It's not a mistery

La lettera ł non ha suono in veneziano? 🤔
Dipende dal tuo accento, la ł forcoła è una lettera utilizzata per le situazioni dove la L può essere pronunciata o no. Quindi se scrivo "całigo"(nebbia) vuol dire che ci sono due possibilità de pronuncia:

@@VRomagnollo mio padre mi spiegò che quella lettera può anche essere una "e" molto flebile, poi non so ho genitori che parlano varianti diverse del dialetto veneto e la mia testa è un insalata

In molti casi è una i semiconsonantica - ripete la stessa mutazione che c'è già stata fra latino e italiano: cl pl tl diventano kj pj tj, ma in più ʎ diventa j tranne se è dopo i o e nel qual caso viene assimilata nella vocale precedente. Questo è quello che mi sembra di aver visto in questo e altri esempi di Veneto.

A Udine, Gorizia e Pordenone non si parla assolutamente triestino! Si tratta di veneto impregnato di friulano!
Non c'è nessun errore... In rosso chiaro sono le zone dove il veneto è lingua minoritaria. In rosso scuro è dove (italiano escluso) costituisce la lingua madre della maggioranza

@@ltubabbo529 Qui si parla solo di triestino, non di udinese o istriano. Uno che vede la mappa così pensa che sia una lingua diversa dal veneto con i suoi dialetti.
@@MrGMS1221 Abbastanza difficile pensare una cosa del genere visto che il rosso chiaro è segnato in diverse aree. Quindi o uno è talmente ingenuo da pensare che il triestino si parli anche a 150km da Trieste ed a macchia di leopardo oppure è difficile sbagliarsi.
Oltre a questo sia la descrizione sia la voce iniziale spiegano chiaramente come il triestino sia un dialetto veneto e come il veneto sia parlato anche al di fuori della regione stessa.
