These are just assumptions, we have the aforementioned style of coverage from CBC here in Canada. You can even try the CBC Sports channel here on youtube, not sure if it’s geolocked though. Technically speaking, he's way below other male skaters who do quads which has base points of 9-12 points with +3/-3 GOEs. That is why many attempts to do quads even with the chance of failing to land it properly as long as they complete the revolution because it constitutes to so much points. So thus, Nathan Chen who heavily relies on this scoring system. In terms of components, Rippon has indeed a good program on both short and long. However, there are so many other skaters who is better than him in that part. His components, I believe is not even in the top 5. For me, Rippon is just a good skater. He's fun to watch. He seems that he enjoys what he is doing. But I think that if competes with athletes such as those big names in their uninjured body, he can never make to the podium. Sorry. But that is true. But good for him now that GOEs are +5/-5 to give these quad jumpers to mellow down a bit.
The people who say he was ripped obviously don't understand figure skating scoring in the slightest. Kolyada and Chan had moves that had higher base values so even if they fell they still got the base score for it but they didn't get any extra points and they got a 1 point deduction. So he wasn't ripped off his program just wasn't as hard as theirs
