adam scored lower than the two competitors who fell because his program wasn't as technically difficult as theirs. adam chose not to attempt any quad jumps at the olympics knowing how many points they are worth because he wanted to skate clean. depending on the type of jump, you can do a quad jump and fall and providing you managed to rotate 4 times in the air, it can still be worth more than a triple jump.
Just because someone “doesn’t fall” doesn’t mean they win gold? The scoring system is much more complicated than that but it’s just as simple at the same time. As a student, the best example I could think of is how taking a ap class and getting a B is better than taking a regular class and getting an A. It doesn’t mean the student can’t handle an ap class, but the student that attempted something more challenging is considered better. It makes perfect sense
Yeah, I love Adam he inspired me to start figure skating but we all know he didn’t deserve the gold medal having no quads in his program. It just wasn’t as technically difficult as other people’s. And besides his program was so beautiful and touching that it doesn’t matter what place he got. He really give the performance of a lifetime
But Adam had a higher technical score Than kolyada due to all of kolyadas falls and sloppy skating. But the panel gave mikhail a higher pcs score to surpass Adam which made no sense.
Like Adam but the scoring system gives higher technical scores to those doing more difficult jumps and Kolyada and Chan have quads unlike Adam. Plus Chan in particular is a far superior skater - skating skills, transitions, edges so there really is no question why Chan was ahead - a better argument is Kolyada should have been behind Adam. In the end, for those interested, it doesn't matter because it didn't effect the team results. USA was too far behind to have a chance for silver let alone gold.
I love his authenticity and honesty. Adam and Nathan are setting the example of true athletic spirit with its ups and downs. Congrats to both of them for their accomplishments.
Hahaha, he is such a politician. Look at what he did, there. He consciously side-stepped criticizing the judges, which would have made him unpopular with people that know enough about the sport to understand that falling during a difficult routine does not make it a bad routine (on the contrary, figure-skating rewards risk-takers), but at the same time, he managed to goodhumoredly give props to his fans that were, with completely good intentions, trying to support him. Rippon thereby completely defused the issue. That was very cagey. I fully understand why Rippon chose a safer routine, too. In the context of his difficult past couple of months combined with him having superior technical mastery of the sport, he wasn't going to benefit from choosing a more physically demanding routine. It was an extremely wise decision that got him a bronze, maybe not as good of a sponsorship as a gold-medalist but something to take home with him. However, I expect him to return next Winter Olympics and win a gold in the same event. Keep watching Adam Rippon. This guy is a shark, and sharks only move forward.
Also next year the scoring system will change a little with less base value assigned to the quad and a -5 to +5 GOE so next season the exact same program might score more favorably. Right now it's game of fallen quads.
I agree I was very impressed by his response. However it does bring up an important point, what is better risk taking or performing flawlessly? Right now it's risk taking but in my opinion it should be a bit more balanced. It is really important to the development of the sport that risk taking be worth the effort but I think the decision to lower the quad base score was correct.
Lol to everyone complaining about "well you don't see straight people making it all about their sexuality, so why do gay athletes have to do it," literally one of the videos on the sidebar is "Married Figure Skating Couple Ready To Take The Ice." Love and sexuality are such a huge part of our everyday life, but heterosexuality is almost ALWAYS assumed--and worse, when it's not heterosexuality, a lot of people tend to freak out.
youdbettertube you are so right. They also have to understand that gay kids get picked on just like straight kids do....there are plenty of role models for straight kids, I just feel like Adam wants to be a role model for gay kids. And that just brings me to tears bc he such a sweetheart. He is using his voice and that just shows his courage and bravery.
I was going to ask what does being married have to do with your sexual orientation? But then I am lucky to live in a country where gay marriage has been legal for a long time, but it is not so in America
It isn't falls that determine who loses or wins. It is a scoring system and how the points are allotted. Not all skaters start at the same level with their contents.
I admire Adam Rippon, he has dedicated time and effort to excel at what he loves. His love of the sport is obvious. The interviewer is an arse. She keeps wanting to engage him in controversy. Kudos to his trainers on dealing with the media. Almost everybody who has this kind of public and media exposure is trained in how to avoid being ensnared.
Gosh not only was he remarkable on his skating, he‘s also the nicest most charismatic guy. While representing the community as well, like damn. YOU‘RE DOING GREAT SWEETIE!!!
If it is socially divisive, than I hope you know it wasn't by the "ghetto"'s choice. We would all prefer to be included, loved, accepted. And yet unfortunately, that's not the case. Being a minority has been and still is something that disrupts people's lives. All the prejudice and discrimination makes LGBTQ's feel insecure, unworthy, and at some state, even suicidal. The least of representation and celebration of who we are as individuals we can get IS extremely important. Nevertheless, his skating is really the reason he should and is getting all that praise. So if he can carry himself to be an excellent ice skater while showing to young queers that they have someone to look up to as well, then yeah, I do think he's doing really, really great.
Falling doesn’t really affect your score...if your step sequences and your jumps are flawless but your landings aren’t it is very possible to still get a higher score for a skating falling than the one who didn’t If the other skaters program has a higher base score than the one who skated flawless.
Ken Mendoza I agree, but the Russian was anything but. I would have given first to Patrick Chan, second to Adam, third to the Russian (sorry, I can`t remember the spelling of his name).
Falling does affect your score it’s a mandatory 1 point deduction not to mention if will Affect your chances at a positive GOE. They may award some points by downgrading the jump but that’s still a negative GOE.
Tiffany Camperos For fully rotated quads, a fall and -3 GOE is still worth more than than a clean triple. That's why you see such a splatfest in men's. They go for the quad even if they only land it 50% of the time training because they know even if they fall, it'll be worth it. The problem is when you under rotate that quad. Ala Kolyada SP. Then it's a HUGE problem. 4Lz < and -3 GOE is handing the gold medal over, which is what Kolyada kind of did. But anyway he shouldn't be blamed even though everyone else delivered but him in his team. Every skater has bad days and can fall on any given day, just so happened that he fell when everyone else was clean. Hope his fed doesn't give him too much backlash
Ken Mendoza actually it deducts one point ( not a lot though) I think he wasn’t robbed from the technical score, but more the component score. He was super emotional and put it all out and got a low component score. THAT was the problem.
The comments on this are really disheartening honestly. So many people are making this about his sexuality, the "liberal media" and how its all the democrats fault, blahblahblah. *Can we please just be happy for him. His performance was breathtaking.* Gracious.
No, they actually can't be happy. Most people are soul-less, thoughtless shells who require formal institutions to tell them they have a soul and what to think/feel.
HE makes it about sexuality. If he didn't bring it up constantly, do you think he would get the same pushback? It is also about his attitude, which is also why he gets grief...he's just too full of himself. Do you see any of the medal winners going around acting like prima donnas? No, they let their performances speak for themselves. They do no go around saying how wonderful they are and how their going to kick everyone's ass like he does. He's a good skater no doubt, but for me, his personality is unbearable.
He's the one who made it about his gayness. The media then expounds upon it. Such a tacky interview by Amy the interviewer. So unprofessional to bring his gayness into the picture while interviewing about his performance. Then she talks about the vice president. So tacky & unprofessional. He wants to use his skating talent as his platform to further the gay agenda, and bash VP Pence. No decorum, no tact. I didn't even know who he was prior to these Olympics, but I was immediately turned off when he started that gay agenda and bashing the vice president nonsense rather than talking about his sport. I just want to enjoy their talent & performances. I don't give a damn about their sexual preference
drewpert 15 this is an open forum where you do not have the right to tell anyone to shut up. If you're not happy with what someone says, then leave. But no one needs to shut up. These forums are for people to voice their opinions
Adam was underscored in the PCS score and should have finished second, ahead of Kolyada. His performance was the most artistic of the night and had no errors. However, the reason he finished third is because Kolyada and Chan had 3 and 3 quads. Quads are the hardest element in skating and Rippon had 0. He didn’t even attempt any in the skate.
Proud of Team Canada and Team USA. As far as Adam's performance is concern , YES he could have been placed/scored a little higher than the OAR. Mikhail Kolyada is a wonderful skater when HE is completely on with jumps and presentation but as far as this night no. He was not invested in to program until it was too late and plus he had to many errors made during the program. Adam had good positive jumps/spins and great presentation for the whole program. The program was well balanced for what he did. Could not have done it better. So judging between them Adam should have been placed second and Kolyada placed third. Overall proud of TEAM USA and Canada
I agree technically, Kolyada and Chan performance was worth more because it has Quad’s bu at the end of the day neither of them had a clean performance, not to mention that Adam’s component score should’ve been much higher it was beautifully choreographed and performed much better than Kolyada. But hey maybe the, ISU thinks the audience doesn’t understand Figure Skating.
Hi dustigenes and Tiffany Camperos. Yes I do realize Adam didn't do the Quad but I believe that was the plan. Have a clean triple jumps program and get the positive grade of execution. That I believe is what Adam did so perfectly that night. Chan yes to be first because of presentation and that really what saved him with the errors he made. Now Kolyada had no presentation until the end of the program and just was lack luster. His quads when on are great but this night was not and should not have been placed over Adam. As you said Tiffany , Adam's total performance was great. Anyways great competition overall. Take care to you both.
Yes, apparently it was Adam's plan not to attempt a quad. I don't understand why a fail quad is worth more than a good triple, my only concern is if that is consistent. If so, I hope Adam is able to get the confidence to add a quad into his program soon, as he is a great skater. The way judging is now, is so much better than is was 16 years ago. There is little room for cheating now, as long as the scoring remain consistent.
Agree with you on the need for Adam to have quad. Think it was the lutz he was doing before that gave him trouble. Maybe if the lutz was not working for him that another one might be in his favor. Wait and see what happens in future. Take care
According to the experts in the field, a large percentage of the male skaters are gay. He didn't win gold because he failed to include a quad jump in his routine. A well-performed quad jump, even if not perfect garners higher points than a triple jump performed perfectly. He skated cleanly, but safely. The two that placed above him took risks and both attempted a quad. He scored lower due to this, not because of his virtue signaling and gay pandering and diva behavior (unfortunately).
Joaquin Lomeli yeah not really a great talking point sweetheart. It has nothing to do with the fact that he's gay. Everything is on a judging scale and he did nothing that wasn't safe. Nothing to do with him being gay. That might be a bad decision on your part.
+Joaquin Lomeli it's quite clear you've never watched figure skating in your life. He was scored correctly. The judging has nothing to do with him being gay, it has to do with him having a poor technical content. He is still very enjoyable but he's never going to win anything with the current crop of elite that's happening. In the individual, get ready for a bigger disappointment. All the top guns weren't even in the team, including the best one.
PLEASE READ THIS: I am a female who grew up with a brother who I was very close to and who decided in college he might be gay, when it wasn't OK or accepted. He took me along as his 'beard' (I was a very attractive woman) when he went out to rumored gay hot spots to see what it was all about while still pretending to be straight. He was afraid of the whole 'coming out' business, but knew he needed to do it. I was there to hold his hand through it all. . Over the course of a couple of years with him at these places, I watched the interaction between guys who were attempting to come out and others who were 'out'. I observed some interesting things. SOME of the gay males began to affect a fake, diva-ish and effeminate body posturing and speaking manner when they were around other gay males. They thought it made them more attractive. BUT! When they were around all straight people who didn't know they were gay, they acted completely straight and had none of the effeminate affectations. . Over the years, I ran into other guys I thought were straight in these gay night spots. They were acting all girly until they saw me, and then they switched back into their 'Alpha Male' normal behavior that they'd always had. That's when I realized it was all an act and was not a natural behavior. It is a FAKE PERSONA. So, when I watch Adam Rippon behave in this OVERTLY EFFEMINATE and Diva-like behavior I know it is NOT his authentic self and is done because he is an attention whore, and a GIANT virtue signaler. FAKE, FAKE and more FAKE. If he'd not created this stink about Mike Pence, and just skated, we'd all be happy for him. But instead, he had to throw a huge, girly, hissy fit and piss 90% of the population off. Stupid and unnecessary.
Oh Brian. Tsk. Tsk. When one is unable to defend one's position, one will resort to insults. You'll have to take my word for it, won't you? Sorry you didn't have a chance to meet my brother. He was quite attractive, too.
Gretchen Mann No, he's not. He's nothing of what made America great, and he's everything of what will bring God's judgement upon America. Wake-up to reality and repent of your ridiculous thinking - before it's too late.
Even though I understand your sentiment. I would have to say I am a proud American and that flag and national anthem still stirs my heart in a way I cant really describe. Sure I get the fact my country is far from perfect and yes my country is full of racism and bigotry but thats my country. "My only regret is that I only have but one life to give for my country" Nathan Hale
Sooooooooo Jealous.....mr. autism. YOU are clearly a JERK. America, it's politics, whether you like the POTUS or not, has absolutely NOTHING to do with this Athlete, his amazing skating skills, or Proud Americans. We have plenty to be proud of, one of those thing is a document called The Constitution and the other is The Bill Of Rights. I understand that people like you are SAD because you are either a Self Hating American, who believes, wrongly, that ONE President you don't like, is a good reason (it's NOT) to HATE an entire country, or you are a foreign bastard who's rights in his own country are so lacking that you feel the need to lash out at people who are BETTER than you. Have a nice day.
DGG you keep commenting on every comment here... are you closeted or something? If not, got watch something else and stop finding all the ones with gay people.
As soon as he came out, he started to change his appearance. His confidence now matches the way he skates. There is a CZcams video on his evolution. It is really cute.
falling doesn't make the rest of your program any less worthy. you get deductions for falling. if your program lacks greatness, even if it is flawless, it's not going to get your first just because other great skaters fell. They already got their deductions and still scored higher than you! Get over it. don't be a sore loser. Start skating even better! Take on bigger and better skills. You got bronze... because you are worth bronze. There are fallers who deserve gold and get gold.
GorgieClarissa it was a team event. So not sure why ppl are saying Adam should've gotten higher. it included the females, pairs, etc. IDK what ppl are talking about. Perhaps he should've score higher that the Russian, but I'm not sure that that would've moved the team up.
Adam knows very well why he finished only 3rd after Chan and Kolyada even though he didn't fall. He just didn't want to ruin the interview by explaining all the technical factors to the interviewer and the viewers.
fiercefunky What an immature remark. The fans are complaining, not Adam. He obviously understands why he scored 3rd, not sure why you have so much hate for him. He has a bronze medal around his neck, a well-earned one too. What do you have? That’s right. NOTHING. So how about you go to the toddler section where YOU deserve to be. Bye bye.
Because his inference is those biased fans know more than the judges. Maybe instead of implying that those fans are right, he should take the moment to educate them on why other people who worked HARDER and did MORE rightfully deserved their placements. But no, that would involve actually giving credit to someone from another country instead of playing the coy victim like "well, they're right but, what can I do? I deserved the gold but oh well..." Even the interviewer mentions that he "didn't fall" versus the 1st and second place finishers who did have falls but FAILED (oh how CONVENIENTLY) to mention that the two that fell had quads and Adam didn't. I could go out and do a single axel and a single toe loop and a single salchow and "not fall," does that mean I deserve to win over someone like Nathan Chen who might do 5 quads and fall on one?! Honestly, FOOH with your blinded Nationalistic bullshit. BYE FUCKING BYEEEEEEEEE
Question for someone who actually knows skating: was he actually ripped off? Like should he have been gold? I know there’s a lot of diff tricks and stuff
I've seen better...I wasn't really that impressed with his performance. I don't mean to sound like a hater but it's true. He wasn't "robbed". I've seen far better skaters get far lower scores so I have to wonder how much of this is making a mountain out of a molehill so he can wear his sexuality as a shield?
Adam has charisma, rapid fire retorts, charm, humour, super handsome and loaded with talent - is it any wonder he's the darling of the Wimter '18 Olympics?
The only scoring controversy here is that he was even given a spot on the US Olympics team. He only placed fourth at nationals but was given the spot over the guy who won second at nationals.
because nationals is not the only deciding factor. All the other skates of the season are factored in and Adam consistently placed higher than Brown. The only reason why Adam placed lower was that he slipped a little on his long program with some of his jumps like his salchow (mainly because his blade got caught up). That third spot on the team wasn't for a top medalist it was for someone to be consistent and help win the team medal. Brown isn't consistent enough to guarantee this but Adam is
What controversy? other men are doing quads he didn't and triple axel? excuse me 15yr old junior figure skater Kihira Rika is doing x2 triple axel in her routine and one is in combination, so what? And also what about the gay thing? this is figure skating what sexual orientation of a person has to do with it. It's a sport, you go, you do your skating routine and you do it the best you can, what is your sexual orientation has to do with it, this is your private life, as if when Usain Bolt run we have to know with whom he is sleeping and how he is doing it? what nonsense! this perverse world is sexualizing everything.
He didn't complain about his score or claim that he should have beaten the players who fell, he simply gave a joking response that showed he was grateful for his fans support rather than taking the opportunity to either explain the scoring system in figure skating and the points given for difficulty vs deducted for falling in a long answer during this brief interview or criticize the judges which he surely does not want to do since he knows he did not have the same difficulty in his routine as the others. It was actually a great answer because it respected the fans defending him who have good intentions but little knowledge of the sport while also not agreeing with their incorrect beliefs. And talking about the fact that he is the first openly gay US Winter Olympic athlete is not perverse or sexualizing anything, it is simply a statement about an aspect of himself that he has recently decided it is important to reveal to the world while he is in a position to do so and have it make an impact. It IS a big deal for anyone to be openly gay, especially famous people, because in most societies around the world including the one he grew up in there is a lot of homophobia and very few icons for gay people to look up to who are openly gay and successful and happy with themselves. His being the first openly gay American winter olympian paves the way for others to come out and encourages people who look up to him who are scared to be themselves because of bullying and serious threats to their wellbeing from the intolerant to come out themselves. People don't make a big deal about heterosexuality because it's expected and accepted in every culture but homosexuality is still not fully accepted by society and people are always working to undermine or actually hurt gay people, be it by passing legislation allowing discrimination against gay people or by physically or mentally abusing them. Nobody should have to live in fear that people will hate them or hurt them because of who they love, and having famous people like Adam represent the LBGTQ community is important to show people that being gay is normal and should not be treated as anything but. In a perfect world, people would only care about the sport and individual's skill but in the real world we live in, it's important to have trailblazers help change society's perception of gay people and help encourage tolerance and acceptance.
SirenMajo he is a typical liberal who doesn’t have the common sense to realize there is a time and place to talk politics. Typical stupid jock listens to CNN has no opinions of his own. All this shows other nations is we are becoming weak as a ppl. Idiot is going to talk shit about Pence in front of North Korean officials? All honesty I think all celebs and athletes should shut the fuck up and do their job and entertain. Collect their 4858382929294857574838292 million dollar checks, go back to their multi million dollar gated community, or private island bc nothing in politics effects them since they are above the law and can buy their way in or out of everything.
Bravo for your courage Adam and for your commitment to your sport and those without a voice. Every coming out puts another crack in the wall of bigotry and discrimination against athletes and for humanity in general. As for the judging ....... I have been watching sport competitions since they were first televised in the late 1950's. As far as figure skating I feel the judging was always dubious. They are only people who are mostly subjective, driven by personal tastes, politics and ego. Rarely have their been truly objective judges. Even Torvill and Dean the greatest ice dancing couple on this planet were not given top scores by certain judges simply out of spite, indigestion or mean spiritedness.
Please he had an easy routine compared to other skaters ... he does not have the technical content and was scored fairly in my opinion ... geez the only reason he’s getting headlines is cause he’s gay. (By the way I’m gay myself) Nagasu should get headlines! She landed a triple axle, only the third woman to do it in the Olympics and bested the Japanese and Canadian skaters.
Oh he can skate, but when he stated on national television that he wanted a xanax and a quick drink, I lost all respect for him! That is no way to represent the US Olympic team!
Yeah he should spend more time practicing his quads instead of blabbing about the fact he is gay as if it has something to do with a sport. BTW Patrick Chen is far better skater than he will never be.
Adam skated very well in the team event and he is an absolute sweetheart of a young man. But he wasn't robbed of the 1st place at all and he has zero chance of winning a medal in individual against other guys who do 3, 4, maybe five quadruple jumps in the long program. Adam doesn't have a quad.
Adam is so cute and he's an awesome skater. Gay or not, he represents our country and does a damn good job at it !!! :-) I'm rooting for him to win gold in the individual !!!
Vet Tech Mom no, he does not represent the country well. When you start out by bashing the vice president of the United States, you disrespect the country and you turn off half of the population in addition to making Americans look like spoiled brats to the rest of the world. The gays want special privileges and they whine when they don't get it. They should not get special privileges just because of their sexual preference. They should be treated like everyone else, no more
I watched last night and Adam was PERFECT and I was so upset when he didn't win. NOT FAIR. It was the most beautiful performance I ever saw. WOW.... Hope he gets a doll made of him like DOROTHY HAMIL. She was my first doll as a child. Loved it.
He did not win, because his program and step sequence was at jr.level from 15 years ago. The simplest program today I've ever seen. Other figure skaters get deduction of points for falls, but their steps and difficulty level were out of his league.
His performance was beautiful but lacked complexity and difficulty (in skating and steps, not just jumps), which is good for him. But it’s a sport and this is the Olympics, so difficulty is needed.
Only triples and no attempt at quads even though it was in his programme. The other skaters, while falling, completed rotations of the quads. Therefore getting higher technical scores and still getting points for execution of the quads by completing the rotation. We're not in 60s where people fall it's considered a bad run.
Love Adam! And it is glaringly apparent that he and Gus should be a couple, my god! (But I'm aware that, at least publicly known, Gus does have a boyfriend)
Lillian Saam ~Exactly wittle boy with no manners, tact, ethics, character, or sincerity. He is selfish and not a team player. If I were his mother I’d be mortified. Not because he’s gay. Because of his actions. He acts like a little boy. Not a man of character.
He claims he was robbed even though he just didn't perform that well, he blamed Mike Pence for ruining his Olympics, he put his ego over the team spirit. Same BS as with that black ice runner who thought he was entitled to carry the US flag at the opening ceremony just because he's black. This is what this identity politics SJW bullshit does to people.
Jaba Haba he lied about pence and trump and kept bashing them for something they never said/did! He is arrogant and ignorant! A hypocrite who doesn’t know how to behave. His routine was not worth a higher score. Just because the other two did Fall doesn’t mean they where worse, it just means that their routine was better and more difficult than his. He had no difficult jumps in it nor was his technical components really hard. Which in the end means he didn’t get robbed, the judges are not biased/unfair! He has no backbone to admit that it was his own fault and that he lied, even though it was proven. This guy is a shame for gays not a hero. He has no manners, no respect, no honor.
He's actually very well spoken. Even the comment of him being robbed. He made a light joke of it. Didn't say "yeah I was robbed" or "no I wasn't!" He handled it great. Unlike Ashley..... he wasn't super furious lmao
I can't believe how well she skates at her age. I'm a few years older than her and my body could not handle that level of skating anymore. So much respect for her. She is so beautiful out there. I prefer her over the jumpers any day of the week, to be honest.
Adam is a sweetheart and looks beautiful on the ice but let's keep things in perspective. His programs are of the difficulty of the best international Junior skaters. He's a top 10 skater here and not a medal threat. Media needs to spread the love to include more contenders.
They score also on degree of difficulty and technical. Gotta look at overall performance and how difficult the program was to perform. Some performances just didn't have the degree of difficulty.
He did not help USA for shit. The team would win a bronze anyway since there was no competition. He doesn't have the technical ability...thus he got scored low.
Keely Fallis nowadays it is all about jumps. You have no idea what you are talking about. Back then, when people like Lambiel and Plushenko where some of the big names, judges cared about other stuff, but now it’s 80% about jumps.
adam scored lower than the two competitors who fell because his program wasn't as technically difficult as theirs. adam chose not to attempt any quad jumps at the olympics knowing how many points they are worth because he wanted to skate clean. depending on the type of jump, you can do a quad jump and fall and providing you managed to rotate 4 times in the air, it can still be worth more than a triple jump.
Thanks to Adam Rippon for being gloriously alive, out loud and proud! My favorite Olympian of 2018!
I love sharks!
William Delaney i fell like i just read a well written insert from a college paper 😊😊😊
AMEN
Son Of Odin why do you even care if you’re not gay?
whaaaaaaat yup and I don’t want to see Walmart straight trash making out in front of the store either.
That’s weird and unnatural as well.
well yeah cause lgbt people are only 10% of the population, so off course its gonna be assumed
I mean his teeth alone are brighter than my future! Haha :-) Go Adam!
Gosh not only was he remarkable on his skating, he‘s also the nicest most charismatic guy. While representing the community as well, like damn. YOU‘RE DOING GREAT SWEETIE!!!
Nathan Chen
Representing a self-created social ghetto is not really "doing great sweetie".Rather it is socially divisive and sad.
"We'll have a bond for the rest of our lives" bruh I ship it.
Ken Mendoza it definitely does, unless you don't think that a negative GOE on your element doesn't affect your score.
Ummm.. He made it into what it is. So stfu.

This Interview was like a movie I wanted to continue watching.
best interview i've seen i think, and kudos not just to Adam, but the interviewer as well. rooting for him all the way
Adam was underscored in the PCS score and should have finished second, ahead of Kolyada.
It has to do with not trying for a quad, however I thought it was scored lower than it should.
Take care
Congratulations, it must be so hard to be surrounded by people who support you. Very brave.
Thank you Strahan for being very kind in your remarks. I appreciate it.
Good for Adam! I hope he kills it for his individual!
Don't they have a gay Olympics, lol
He is really present and in the moment!! I love how he's living his authentic life!
Michael Patrick Strahan trueeee..
He is really present in what? come again, what authentic life?
I am sure that you have never been and will never be attractive.
Oh Brian. Tsk. Tsk. When one is unable to defend one's position, one will resort to insults. You'll have to take my word for it, won't you? Sorry you didn't have a chance to meet my brother. He was quite attractive, too.
Where's the fucking video of him at the Olympics? I can't find it anywhere.
Awww Adam we love you!! Thanks for representing the US of A in a positive light for a change!
I love him. I love his skating. I love his attitude. He is what America is about. Thanks for the Bronze medal. #teamAdam
Gretchen Mann his attitude sucks he politicalized the Olympics while the entire world watched
Gretchen Mann
No, he's not. He's nothing of what made America great, and he's everything of what will bring God's judgement upon America. Wake-up to reality and repent of your ridiculous thinking - before it's too late.
these are definately gay times. the new America. gay and in 3rd place.
MickeyMorandini1 😳
our great olympic hero fell on his ass tonight. he will have to buy gold from William Devane if he wants it.
There was no scoring controversy.
Men, Adam, you deserve a Gold medal. Beautiful and solid jump every single time
Love him loved his book beautiful on the outside loved his moms book parent up such incredible people love them
Adam wearing a such a
badass Team USA
jacket!!!
Neither is supporting a bunch of lying homosexual bigots
Even though I understand your sentiment. I would have to say I am a proud American and that flag and national anthem still stirs my heart in a way I cant really describe. Sure I get the fact my country is far from perfect and yes my country is full of racism and bigotry but thats my country. "My only regret is that I only have but one life to give for my country" Nathan Hale
Sooooooooo Jealous.....mr. autism.
YOU are clearly a JERK.
America, it's politics, whether you like the POTUS or not, has absolutely NOTHING to do with this Athlete,
his amazing skating skills, or Proud Americans.
We have plenty to be proud of, one of those thing is a document called The Constitution and the other is
The Bill Of Rights.
I understand that people like you are SAD because you are either a Self Hating American, who believes, wrongly,
that ONE President you don't like, is a good reason (it's NOT) to HATE an entire country,
or you are a foreign bastard who's rights in his own country are so lacking that you feel the need to lash out at
people who are BETTER than you.
Have a nice day.
"We had been corresponding" = exchanged pics on grindr 😂
OMGGGGGGG HAHAHAHAHAHAHA BITCHHHHH KILL MEEEEE HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
gross
LMAO
DGG you keep commenting on every comment here... are you closeted or something? If not, got watch something else and stop finding all the ones with gay people.
Seeing that getting a pic is your biggest accomplishment enjoy the moment.
Adam was awesome =) Glad to see him score so well!
Oh, so Adam hasn't received his report date yet?
Didn't he use to have a lot hair? Seems like a really nice guy. Good Luck Adam!
He probably cut his hair for the Olympics so it's not a distraction while ice skating....
As soon as he came out, he started to change his appearance. His confidence now matches the way he skates. There is a CZcams video on his evolution. It is really cute.
I love Adam! I feel like he was interviewing like he was talking to a friend! He was so sweet and down to earth 😍
What a good son, love this young man...
Much love and respect for Adam.
Such a nice guy. Congratulations to USA team from Russia
chyffinch you too!
Bob the builder, я с тобой не коммуницировала
chyffinch - You are the coolest Russian I've come across in a long time :D
Why does he remind me of Kim K. West? They sound and act just alike!
It's called vocal fry.
thank god that the host was so kind and not obnoxious
congrats...Adam rippon..sending much love to you
That voice, Seriously ?
He’s hilarious!! Slay Adam slay!
Good Luck Adam in the individuals. You did an enjoyable interview. Great human being. Want to see you on tour!
Wonderful role model. Thank you for everything you do!
He’s adorable!!!
ABORTION IS MURDER LIBERALS ARE CANCER that me!:)
Yeah, Adam is waay too cocky !
Son Of Odin - I hope he falls on his ass. But, a sore ass is nothing new 😂
Being a member of a medically-recognised vector for the spread of HIV does not make anyone "adorable".
Max Keller lol, flamer
He is a CUTIE
He sounds like an annoying homosexual and is bigoted, ugly on the inside
Thomas McHale - You're awesome, and apparently made these guys jealous LOL
Great job Adam ! I definitely want one of those jackets !
All the hard work pays off. What a beautiful story.
Love you Adam and Gus. You guys are awesome.
oh bobert, you're so repressed
lol. People like you are no better than the Taliban. Different sides of the same coin.
they're sick ass peter puffers
falling doesn't make the rest of your program any less worthy. you get deductions for falling. if your program lacks greatness, even if it is flawless, it's not going to get your first just because other great skaters fell.
Right? Like, learn how to do a Quad like the big boys or go back and sit your ass down in the triples toddler end of the baby pool.
fiercefunky What an immature remark.
Such artistery! That's just as important as attempting quads that don't they can't complete.
He exudes pure confidence!!!
Jelllo! Johnny Weir was first!
Nicole Johnny didn’t publicly out himself until after he retired. Adam is the first openly gay skater to compete.
I love him dearly!
He is amazing. Thanks for using your voice to save lives and speak out against the detrimental ideas fundamentalism pushes. We support you Adam!
Congratulations Adam! Thanks for standing up for your belief's!
Adam seems like such a sweet sweetheart. Rooting for him in the individual competition!
At least someone is making America great. Thanks Adam.
OMG, Alavini...too funny. You are absolutely right !! :D
Son Of Odin TRUMP FOR PRISON 2018!
Lock him up!
Adam Rippon for President 2020.
Gold for most Flaming Gay
How exactly is being a heterophobe homosexual bigot , "making America great again"?
Love you Adam and so proud of you!!!
Question for someone who actually knows skating: was he actually ripped off? Like should he have been gold? I know there’s a lot of diff tricks and stuff
He is such a sweetheart.
Riverwide76 he is a liar! A proven liar!
Wonho's Ramyun ?
So proud! You go guuuurl!
Contacto Peralta do you know he is a guy right
Cherie Laub really? I thought he was a sheep on ice skates! guuuurl!
Love him! So proud of you Adam.
Yes, PLEASE use the voice you have right now to make whatever change you can, 'cause it won't last forever, and we *need* you. ❤
Wasn't Johnny Weir openly gay when he was competing in 2010? Even if he didn't say it ou loud, it was Liberace-ly obvious.
Adam has charisma, rapid fire retorts, charm, humour, super handsome and loaded with talent - is it any wonder he's the darling of the Wimter '18 Olympics?
he's WIN GOLD in our heart
Yazzzzzz henny! You’re gorgeous Adam!
Living his life, living his truth, as he should! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
bp paylago funny . Since he is a proven liar.
barb lee At what point did he whine in this video, Barb?
Robert Miller Good God, Robert, what decade are you from or what century?!
Wonho's Ramyun What does he lie about, Wonho?
The only scoring controversy here is that he was even given a spot on the US Olympics team. He only placed fourth at nationals but was given the spot over the guy who won second at nationals.
because nationals is not the only deciding factor. All the other skates of the season are factored in and Adam consistently placed higher than Brown. The only reason why Adam placed lower was that he slipped a little on his long program with some of his jumps like his salchow (mainly because his blade got caught up). That third spot on the team wasn't for a top medalist it was for someone to be consistent and help win the team medal. Brown isn't consistent enough to guarantee this but Adam is
But he's technical score was higher than kolyada. So are you saying kolyada pcs is better than Adam? Nope
Adam define yourself as a person,..not a orientation.
Alice Moore - Villareal okay becky calm down its not like being a gay person is all he ever talks about
Yeah I don’t see what this “scoring controversy” is supposed to be about. He didn’t have the technical score to get a higher placement.
you are an idiot.
He deserved better tbh. His performance was better
I love him
Please he had an easy routine compared to other skaters ... he does not have the technical content and was scored fairly in my opinion ... geez the only reason he’s getting headlines is cause he’s gay. (By the way I’m gay myself) Nagasu should get headlines! She landed a triple axle, only the third woman to do it in the Olympics and bested the Japanese and Canadian skaters.
agreed ... he should be humble and I hope he gets bested in the individual
urm his attitude is EVERYTHING
I could not love him more. Bravo Adam!!
First openly gay? No, Brian Boitano, Johnny Weir, Scott Hamilton lol 😝
Erica Asahan backup Scott Hamilton is not gay Plus if he was we would all still love him he is a legend
From the US
Those are openly gay, but they weren't when they were competing in the Olympics. That's what Adam was referring to.
Cherie Laub I don't think this is the best venue for the "we'd love him ANYWAY" campaign.
Scott Hamilton is not gay as far as anyone knows.
He's not the only one about to throw up.
He excels at skating. You absolutely suck at singing. And grooming.
Congrats Adam!
Adam is so cute and he's an awesome skater. Gay or not, he represents our country and does a damn good job at it !!! :-) I'm rooting for him to win gold in the individual !!!
Vet Tech Mom just don't expect him to get gold. If he is 6th or 7th that would actually be a great result for Adam.
Vet Tech Mom he will never win gold! 😂😂😂 hanyu is ten times better than this arrogant liar!
They should be treated like everyone else, no more
PEnce and Dump make us look far worse to the world than any athlete
I watched last night and Adam was PERFECT and I was so upset when he didn't win. NOT FAIR. It was the most beautiful performance I ever saw. WOW.... Hope he gets a doll made of him like DOROTHY HAMIL. She was my first doll as a child. Loved it.
Southern Blessing ME TOO I was really angry at the scores
Perfect bc his jumps were much easier than the other skaters. He did great but his jumps and difficulty level was not as high.
What a talent
he's such a breath of fresh air. he's got such a great personality
Love Adam! And it is glaringly apparent that he and Gus should be a couple, my god! (But I'm aware that, at least publicly known, Gus does have a boyfriend)
What a beautiful, beautiful boy.
Lillian Saam ~Exactly wittle boy with no manners, tact, ethics, character, or sincerity. He is selfish and not a team player. If I were his mother I’d be mortified. Not because he’s gay. Because of his actions. He acts like a little boy. Not a man of character.
Melissa Shinall What has he done that’s so wrong? Genuinely curious, not being a smartass.
He has no manners, no respect, no honor.
phangirlable & wonho’s - Thanks for the replies! Robert, grow up. How old are you? Seriously?
He's actually very well spoken. Even the comment of him being robbed. He made a light joke of it. Didn't say "yeah I was robbed" or "no I wasn't!" He handled it great. Unlike Ashley..... he wasn't super furious lmao
Omg Adam you are amazing!!!!
Super hero! Makes us all Americans proud :)!
Nope he isnt. Mirai is.
Super hero???? Lmao now being openly gay and winning a bronze medal makes you a hero lol unbelievable
Son of Odin, he represented America and Americans a hell of a lot better than you just did. You're an embarrassment to my country.
Ummm...what do the Olympics and Adam's win have to do with Tropicana Mussolini ?
Koster was unfairly underscored. the technical panel was just WTF
Tress Braga Exactly People who know nothing about skating thinks its all about the jumps it’s not .
lol what. His artistry is better than most skaters. It’s not all about jumps.
GennyKoala Stull wasn’t the best he still took an easy way out
Keely Fallis nowadays it is all about jumps. You have no idea what you are talking about. Back then, when people like Lambiel and Plushenko where some of the big names, judges cared about other stuff, but now it’s 80% about jumps.
He was robbed!
Wendy Knox-Leet no Chen was robbed. This guy isn't as good.
He wasn’t really “Robbed”
Oh, I didn't hear about anyone robbing him . . . was he also assaulted and judged under a different set of rules . . . like our government officials?
It was rigga morris gurl
Of what? his testosterone
Such a strong life force in this guy!!
Give this fabulous guy a glass of wine and a chimney!
