    A few safety issues and a good clean up and I would just drive it. I have 1954 that I have had since 1983. It has been upgraded but I drive it on trips of 1200 miles or more. At least once a year except for last year because of coavid. I am 78 years old and don't know how many more I will have to enjoy it. A good find..

    You might want to use gasoline as a starting aid. Ether will strip oil from engine rings and cylinder walls. That is a really nice truck. Good video guys. Keep up the good work. Save them from the crusher!! Back in the 60's my dad had a 57 half ton step side. One of the first trucks I drove on the road. I wish I had it now.

    Well I appreciate you responding I hope to God whoever gets the truck don’t butcher it up and leaves it in its original state I wished I could find one like that that’s all original now you may not get why being original means to someone who grew up driving one of those but there’s a lot of memories there I like speed tube just a certain vehicles for speed

    • @Americana777
      @Americana777  Před 2 lety +1

      I have basically this same truck, 3600 3/4 ton with a 4 speed same as this, only a 1956 model in "Ocean Green". Came to me with 80's 350 engine mounts slapped in and no engine or transmission. Parked since 1987. But she's going back to stock the hard way, sourced a '56 truck 235 inline 6, a sm420 4 speed, and I'll be tearing those 350 mounts out and currently she's down to the frame going to be 100% restored and to original specs, colors, even down to the stickers, done up right. There's too many restomods, particularly when it comes to Chevy '55-59 trucks, seeing a correctly restored stock rig is incredibly rare, I've never even seen one in person. This video is a bit of inspiration for me.

    Its always a good idea to fill the carb.bowl through the slanted vent tube in the top until the area around the throttle shaft gets damp,BEFORE pushing the gas pedal. That lubes the sometimes leather accelerator pump seal.

    I'd love to see more on this truck, and it'd be great to see someone restore it and restore it stock, down to the right colors and everything. Having a '56 Chevy truck of my own I prefer seeing them stock, and I have not found 1 single video on CZcams of a '55-59 Chevy truck that has been restored correctly, people may get the general idea right by keeping the straight 6 and such things, but very few get things like the interior colors right or the seat trim. Maybe this truck can be different in that way at this point ironically a stock truck stands out more than a modified one. I know mine will once it's done.

    • @Americana777
      @Americana777  Před 2 lety +5

      We sold it to a fella a town over, he is going to restore it, i assume he will keep it original since its all there, hes and older gentlemen, if he gets it finished i will definetly share it with the people and make a video. I agree especially with older classics like this, factory stock is alot cooler than modified.

    Nice find, pretty solid well conserved all those years in a dry place I guess, buy some paint cans and clean it up, check brakes, change oil, put new tires! Old sleeping tires can cause accidents, they look good but no integrity at all principally if you go to the road, be careful, with a very low budget you can turn it to a very good truck!

  • @johnwade5747
    @johnwade5747 Před 2 lety +1

    I'm guessing the water pump seal and the accelerator pump and rings have took a hard beating in your start-up. You may get lucky. More prep is really better before you turn it over including a bit of oil in each cylinder. At 32:50,you could hear a valve hanging in its gooey guide. I'd oil it till it smokes, to lube the guides,myself. If it sounds like I'm picking it to death,I don't mean to be mean,but I'm old and do this stuff all the time. Its a jewel. I like it!

    Get yer asses over to Harbor Freight, get the tools and pads you needs-- and start buffing out that oxidized paint. You've got a gem so go do something with it.
