Band-Maid is the perfect storm. The stars aligned and the Band was formed, totally organic and have a wonderful success story. They are for real and never disappoint. They mix genre's in every song and you were keen to note that. Hope you stick around, you won't be sorry.

    "THESE GALS ARE AMAZING!!"
...and they're just getting started. You have no idea what you've stumbled across. Prepare for a steady stream of Amazement.
I stumbled across Band-Maid about two years ago while searching for something new to listen to. I am now addicted to this band. They do *not* know how to write a bad song. As you listen to every new song, it becomes your new favorite Band-Maid song. Each song is like a movie that you rewatch and discover something new each time. Every instrument in each song weaves together to form a perfect whole. The musicianship is next level.
You have see them perform live: Band-Maid is the best live show you will ever see. They call their concerts Okyu-ji (servings) and address their audience as "Masters and Princesses". Then they perform a two hour show of incredible rock and roll. They take "breaks". The lead vocalist does a Q&A with the audience, the rhythm guitarist leads the crowd in "Omajinai Time" (Magic Spell Time), a call and response cheerleading session while the rest of the band trolls her. It's an incredibly entertaining show and then the music is even more incredible.

Hi Jamie welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 57 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive 10 year back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and bad-ass musicians to boot. They are currently celebrating their 10th anniversary with the original line up. They are bringing the fun back to Rock & Roll.
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in maid cafe's. The idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

One thing to know about Band-Maid, the don't belong to any certain genre of music. They can do it all, rock, metal, ballads, even jazz. It wouldn't surprise me if they came out with a country song. They are super talented, musically educated, great personalities, they are humble, demure, polite, funny, and they LOVE their fans. They have written several love songs to the fans in fact. Many have voiced the opinion they they saved a love of music for them, I too have the same feeling. I grew up on great rock music but it died somewhere, until the Maids revived it. Cheers, and don't stop exploring their catalog, you won't regret it.

I saw them this last summer in Salt Lake City and they brought the house down. I am in my seventies and I have seen the best bands going back to Led Zepplin in 1969 and through Guns N Roses. I love heavy rock/metal and had nearly given up on music in this country because it is so pathetic, but Band Maid brought me new life. These women are super fantastic and I say that not because they are cute, but because they are super musicians and song writers. I also love Saiki's voice. I sincerely hope you don't write them off, but continue to explore their wonderful catalog of music. If possible, always try to find a live video of a song to experience the incredible energy they bring to performances. I have never seen a band give so much to the audience. They were great when they started, but have evolved into most likely the best rock/metal band out there today. I would only say that Wagakki Band, also from Japn, might be as good, but that is saying a lot!

Your very first experience reacting to this amazing group of musicians is a treat to see for Band-Maid's many dedicated fans. Band-Maid has been together for ten years now and many say that they are the best hard rock band currently playing today. The band's founder, rhythm guitarist, lyricist, and backing vocalist, Miku Kobato, originally worked in a Japanese maid cafe and is responsible for the maid concept and image. Contrasting intentionally with their cute look, Band-Maid is a versatile band of elite musicians who perform extraordinary hard rock/metal music as well as soulful ballads. They have toured the United States and Europe to sold out shows, performed at this year's Chicago's Lallapaloosa festival, wrote several Anime theme songs, and have had a cameo performance in the Netflix movie "Kate." Pick any of their many songs, sit back and be thoroughly impressed with their music. Cheers.

The band calls the contrast between their cutesy maid costumes and their hard rock sound "the gap". They enjoy seeing the confused looks on people's faces when they walk on stage and the reaction when they start playing with their hard rock sound.
My opinion is that Band-Maid are one of the best bands to have formed in the past 10 years, and are currently one of the best rock and roll bands on the planet. They play many genres including ballads, power ballads, pop, rock, progressive rock, hard rock, punk, metal, nu metal, and everything before in-between and beyond. They also have several great instrumental songs that they use live to give their lead singer Saiki a break.
I don't know what musical style that you prefer but you can't go wrong by listening to Onset, From Now On, Moratorium, No God, Rinne, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, and my favorite Official Music Video of theirs Don't You Tell Me. The double bass kick drum on No God and Rinne will blow your mind. Have fun with it!
    Introducing The Band...
Miku [mee-kuu] (Small Pigeon) - Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, Lyricist, Band Founder
Misa [mee-suh] (Barefoot Assassin) - Bass Guitar
    Akane [aah-kah-nay] (Gorilla) - Drums
Kanami [kuh-nah-mee] (Mincho) - Lead Guitar, Songwriter
    Saiki [sigh-kee] (Sai-Chan) - Lead Vocals

The nice thing about Band-Maid is that there's a lot of variation to their style while maintaining a core sound. You might get something hard rock or punk-ish or funky or mid-tempo; or you might get a ballad or instrumental or acoustic. But one thing you'll _always_ get is amazing songwriting, with melodic hooks and riffs that will stay with you long after the last note.

Band Maid is a musician’s band of musicians. You could study their songwriting and arrangement for days. However, they can be just plain fun for everyone to enjoy.
Fanbase is wildly diverse. The Band Maid show I attended had everyone from goth girls to metal dads. Fans were literally from 7 to 70. (Check out the short video with “Mini Miku” on your own)
Band Maid has a musical catalog as diverse as their fanbase. From thrashy metal to post hardcore to progressive instrumentals, from funky rock to pop punk and everything in between. If you give more feedback on your likes and dislikes, then it would be easier for recommendations for next songs.
My personal favorite right now is “Blooming,” an example of their post hardcore pop punk style
    Enjoy the journey 🚀

    ROLLING STONE
Japanese Rockers Band-Maid Put Guitar Center Showoffs to Shame
There’s a pun to be made about how much Band-Maid ripped, but the Japanese group goes even harder than that. Fluctuating between hard rock, aughts nu-metal, and pop rock, each member of the quintet is a virtuoso in her own right with more than a decade of practice in Band-Maid alone. They lured curious onlookers into the fold when highlights like “Domination” and “Don’t You Tell Me” got huge reactions from the crowd, but it was the bass solo-versus-guitar solo duels mid-song that got the biggest cheers. This is what those guys in Guitar Center think their ridiculous riffing sounds like. Turns out it’s done best, and most effortlessly, by women in black-and-white maid dresses and frilly hair-pieces as they smile ear to ear. -N.C.

Band Maid is one of the best live rock bands out there. They have recently completed their 10th Anniversary Tour. They have a discography of over 120 songs and every one of the songs are worth listening to. Their first big song "Thrill" saved the group from disbandment in 2013. It went viral on J-Rock radio and their success has followed. There is a recent official music video titled "Shambles" show where they have progressed to as a group. It was a commissioned song for the end credits of an anime feature in Japan. One two-song clip I suggest you react to is from their live one-hour set at the Lollapalooza music festival (they were the first J-Rock band invited to the festival in 13 years) in Chicago this past August 2023. The two songs "Dice" and "Hate?" have gone VIRAL on CZcams and the internet. I won't tell you the details of the two-song clip, but the band loved it, the audience loved it, and the internet has definitely loved it. As you mentioned, their maid costumes (the band calls them combat gear) are meant to defy the stereotypes of petite Japanese females as demure and shy creatures. Boy, have they done that! Every year, the Band changes outfits to closer and closer reflect their personalities. Jamie, since you like to break stereotypes, this band is the perfect one to follow. Since so much of Band Mai's followers are older adult males, we have been trying to get younger fans (especially females) to follow the group. We feel Band Maid should be a model for young women to listen to, follow, and aspire to become hard rockers like themselves. Band Maid has proven that with talent, HARD WORK, and a belief in themselves they have become successful and enduring in the world of rock music.

Fun Fact: Your sign-off of "Peace & Love" is the title of the first song released by Cluppo, the solo pop side project of Band-Maid founder/lyricist/rhythm guitarist/second vocalist/small pigeon Miku Kobato (the middle Maid in your thumbnail for this post).

Another one finds their way to Band-Maid land. We hope you will stick around a learn more of the joy and thrill of Japan's hardest rocking women. (No disrespect to Lovebites, Aldious, and all the other woman rockers in Japan.)
As other fans have said, they have a large catalog of music. 98% of which they created themselves. Listen close and you will hear all kinds of influences.
Personal favorites are; Choose Me, Bubble, Arcadia Girl, Daydreaming and Before Yesterday.
edit: Yeah, and About Us. A tune they wrote for their fans during the plague years. But stands for being separated from any of your loved ones. Peace, Out.

I don't know what sort of music you normally have but there is another all girl Japanese band called NEMOPHILA. They are heavier than BAND-MAID and are popular all over the world. The drummer has 2 children and the singer has one. They sre renowned for their covers and have just released an EP of their last 4 covers. Their own songs are great. My favourite NEMOPHILA songs are
    Rise
    Sorai
    Zen
    Dissention
    Change the world
    Revive
Basically just about everything they do. Utube tells me that half my music listening time is spent on NEMOPHILA. Check them out.

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors from Tokyo University.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Frequently snacks between songs.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

    If you liked this video,
I'm not the type you like,
    You should definitely see it
I would like to introduce three more girl rock bands.
    Gacharic Spin “MindSet”,
NEMOPHILA / REVIVE [Official Music Video],
LOVEBITES / Set The World On Fire [Live from "Ride For Vengeance Tour 2021"],
    You won't regret it.
If you're interested in the songs from 30 years ago that formed the foundation for an all-girl rock band,
    プリンセス プリンセス “GET CRAZY!”
    Show-Ya - 私は嵐(Music Video)
You can get a good idea of the level of Japanese girl rock bands.

Yes, Band-Maid is an amazing all-female Japanese (mostly) hard rock band. Actually, many all-female Japanese rock/metal bands are breaking the stereotypes in the world rock/metal scene. Japanese female musicians are just outstanding. My next recommendation for this band is “Freedom” (live)
Another mind-blowing all-female Japanese heavy metal band is Lovebites. I recommend their song “The hammer of wrath” (live, 2023)
Another excellent all-female Japanese heavy metal band is Nemophila. I recommend their song “Hypnosis”.
Some people say that rock is not dead, it just moved to Japan.
