When you hear Lovebites for the first time, you really realize what a narrow musical horizon each of us is basically wandering around with. You wonder why you've never heard of this sensational band before. These are the times we live in: world fame goes to those with the most money, not to those with the most skill, unfortunately. As an old-school heavy metal fan, Lovebites are a must and a pure listening pleasure, especially live. Eargasms are inevitable.

Lovebites has been around since 2016, and the women became more famous worldwide after performing at several major festivals, mainly in Europe, starting in
2018 - Wacken - Open Air in Germany

2019 - Graspop Metal Meeting Festival in Belgium
2019 - Download Festival in Spain.
In 2020, their career was abruptly interrupted by Corona. But they masterfully overcame the crisis, got married and had babies. In 2021 the founder Miho left the band for personal reasons and it went into a hiatus which lasted until the end of 2022. In the fall of 2022 they found a young fantastic bass player and in 2023 they released a new LP. The new LP reached the 5th place in the Japanese charts. Japan is the 2nd largest music market in the world and it is very rare that in these times a rock band comes so far forward.

Welcomed to the mind-blowing world of Lovebites. These women are extremely talented, skillful and versatile exceptional musicians. Aces high? Well, their main influences are Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest, Slayer, Megadeth, Dragonforce, Angra, Helloween, Deep Purple, Yngwie Malmsteen, and even Gary Moore, but they have been developing their unique style. Asami used to sing R&B, soul and jazz before she joined the band. Those twin lead guitar solos by Midori and Miyako are already legendary, in just six years. Miyako is also a concert level classical pianist. Miho (ex bassist and founder of the band) said in an interview that they wanted to play as heavy as men but keeping their femininity. Their live performances are outstanding. These women are breaking the walls of stereotypes in the metal scene. If you were told that you needed to wear black, chains, tattoos, making growls, drinking lots of alcohol and doing drugs to be a metal player, well, they were totally wrong. My next suggestion is also “Hammer of wrath”, same concert, or “Set the world on fire” (live, 2021)
Oh my gosh, you jumped in the deep end! Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they waited out the pandemic and searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later. This is the title track, and this was their first time performing it for a live audience, as part of their first comeback concert.
They did their first live performances in more than two years in summer of 2023, with their new bassist Fami. The very first show was commemorated on the DVD “Knocking on Heaven’s Gate”. They have posted four performances from that DVD-“”Hammer of Wrath”, “Judgement Day”, “Nameless Warrior” and “Liar”. All of them are barn-burners.
Some background:
They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet).
Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing.
In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. The instrumentalists studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining.
They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band."

Miyako is also a virtuoso concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. She is self-taught on the guitar. Stand and Deliver next. Miyako the dark hair lead guitarist is a world class symphony level classical pianist. She incorporates Chopin into one of their tunes. Band-Maid, Lovebites and Nemophila are probably the three best bands working today. Lovebites is coming to the US for the first time next year to Progfest. They lost their original bassist but were able to find Fami and have suffered no loss there.
I personally think they got better with Fami.

pretty much any and all of LOVBITES songs will melt you. the bass player here is FAMI - the newest addition to the band and a serious slap specialist. they are all in their mid 30's other than FAMI who at 21 is the baby of the band - and what a baby ! most of what you see from them will have the original bassist MIHO who along with drummer HARUNA who formed the band in late 2016 after the breakup of their old girl's metal band - the legendary DESTROSE. MIHO left the band in aug. 2021 and they recruited FAMI as her replacement after a hiatus and exhaustive search and many months of auditions by numerous bass players.

On August 20,2018, LOVEBITES announced that it has partnered with X-ray Touring, one of the largest players in the UK booking agent industry.
LOVEBITES toured the Netherlands, Germany, France and UK from November 13-21, 2018.

The band is around since 2016 and released their first EP and album in 2017. At this point they have 4 albums, some Singles/EPs and also a bunch of live DVD/Blu-ray releases.
LOVEBITES have already toured in Europe back in 2018/2019, including the major metal festivals as Wacken, Download, Bloodstock, Graspop. In 2018 they also won the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for best new band.
Then came Covid, their original bass player and founder Miho quit the band for personal reasons and two babies were born. After that LOVEBITES came back with new bassist and new song „Judgement Day“ in late 2022. New album with the same title came out in February 2023.
LOVEBITES finished touring in Japan a couple of weeks ago. Earlier this year in march they played their comeback show. This was their first live gig since 2021 and first show with their new bassist Fami. The video you reacted to was also from this show. There are 3 more videos on their YT channel from this show. THANK YOU for getting to them! Talk about taking 80s heavy metal and injecting it with napalm, plutonium, steroids, you name it. They are absolutely fire and they do not mess around with their music. I'm a 50yr metal head from the States who've seen all the big bands from the 80s, those bands may have set the bar, but these ladies have reset it so high you can't see it without a telescope. They are insanely GREAT! Their drummer, Haruna, is a 4' 9" nuclear reactor back there. You'll get many recommendations, go with them all. I recommend Set The World On Fire live 2021 if you want some face-melting melodic thrash metal, which features a very pregnant Miayko (dark haired guitarist) on Dimebag's Dean. Note: It features former bassist and band co-founder, Miho. Great reaction guys! 🤘
Every song with them will melt your face, no fillers, no bad songs until now. Different styles of Heavy Metal (power, speed, thrash, NWOBHM, ...), but always top class. Reminiscent to classic HM of the 80s and early 90s...
Love the reaction - first time reactions to these ladies are the best. Four world class musicians and a powerful vocalist working as a team to create the best heavy metal you could imagine - power, speed, and thrash metal all combined together. Next song by them should be one of their thrash metal songs like The Hammer of Wrath or Set the World on Fire. Live versions are the best because it is more impressive to see them rip out those guitar solos than to just hear them. Lovebites will blow your mind song after song. You haven't even seen the guitar player shred the piano yet.

This is from the 1st LOVEBITES concert in two years, and for the bassist Fami, was also the first ever performance with a band in concert, though she was renown on CZcams as a solo bassist.
There is no weak link in this band. Five virtuoso's at their craft, and you can tell because they all make it look way too easy. Great song to choose for a first reaction. My personal all-time favorite song, by my all-time favorite band. Been a metalhead for over 50 years, so that says a lot.

Another shiny jewel from the treasure chest that is Japanese female Metal and Rock, along with Band-Maid, Nemophila, Asterism and a few others. After enjoying western Rock and Metal since the mid 70's (Zeppelin and Sabbath were my first) I haven't looked away from Japan since about 2016.

What I really love is that LoveBites fits in the power metal range, Nemophila in the metal range and Band-Maid in the hard rock range can exist without much overlap ... it is very cool to be fans of three fantastic and different style bands, all producing great music right now! Hammer Of Wrath, Raise Some Hell, Set The World On Fire, all live, are the best introduction to their headbanger thrash side, and for an emotional masterpiece A Frozen Serenade, my personal favorite. Or any other song really, you can't go wrong with this band. Live versions are better if available.

The "nice Dean" is Miyako's signature model. Unfortunately, after the lawsuit by Gibson, Dean stopped making them. There may be five or six in existence. Re. bassists, Fami, who is only 21, is the most likely candidate to rival MISA as best rock bassist in the world. She is simply amazing.
