    Another issue is not use OEM filters. I got filters from Amazon probably from China and I had this issue of not starting. So make sure you put filters from Detroit.

    hallo Alrey, we have the problem for engine OM 471 LA, i think the engine similar with detroit DD13, we have a problem ih engine idle condition, the engine is noise and abnormal idle, we have check for rail pressure sensor, over flow and qty solenoid valve at HPP, but engine not yet normal, after we replace HPP with assy component, the engiene can be normal condition, do you have similar problem ? after look your video i think we need to check 2 stage valve like in your video.

    Thank you for this great insight! Is it safe to runs the engine longer than 1 minutes with the return line blocked off, without risking to damage more parts? The two stage valve has some side openings, holes, does it have to be specifically screwed in to align the holes with something inside the fuel pump housing?

    Thanks for the video. I've got this truck model of 2001 and it cranks but wont start. The mechanic replaced its starter and it didn't help. Now, he says it might be the flywheel but I don't trust him anymore. The question is how do we know if starter is cranking the engine to look for other issues like fuel?

    • @alreyindustries
      @alreyindustries  Před 6 měsíci

      If the engine is turning over/cranking but not starting then it is not the starter or flywheel.
      If you try to start it and it just clicks or does nothing at all then it is likely a starter or electrical issue.
      Sounds like you have a fuel, air, compression, or perhaps a timing issue.

    I'm having this issue right now. Wouldn't start but I could prime it then start. Now it won't prime at all. I changed the filter housing. Both of those check valves. The ball check at the bottom of the small filter. If I block the return line it will prime. My only other thought is a leak from the emergency shut off valves. Any suggestions?

      Phoned a Detroit Guru who said to remove the connector to the solenoid at the front of the fuel pump. He said this will cause it to go to high pressure on crank.
      Got my engine started in minutes after trying for 2 days. Not sure if it was air in the system or this valve stuck.

      I don’t have any videos on those yet. I will keep that in mind though and try to get some out there. From what I have seen they are pretty good and reliable engines. I remember an issue with oil consumption. I think there was an issue with liners or something like that which was causing the engine to burn oil on some models. Having same issue. But valve looks good. How did you block off return ? So we can try that to rule out the valves. Installed new fuel pump and now it loses prime won’t start up. Looks like fuel may be going back to tank when trying to crank up engine.

    • @alreyindustries
      @alreyindustries  Před 2 lety +2

      The brown fuel line coming out of the fuel filter housing, directly under the hand primer is the return line I do believe. We removed that fitting and attached a homemade fitting with a valve on it. We shut the valve during cranking so that the fuel could not return during cranking, then opened it after it started up. Essentially we added another check valve to see if that was the issue and it was.

      @@adrianarce9427 a rule of thumb I try to go by is: “if everything was working before you did something, go back to what you just did.”
      Those filters are spring loaded at the bottom and there is a little nipple at the bottom of the filter that MUST lock in place at the bottom of the filter housing when you put it in.
      Maybe check the old filter to see if that broke off the bottom and is stuck in the filter housing. If not, you may need to pull the new filter and double check that you got that nipple inserted into the correct place.

The truck started within about 30 seconds of the engine running it revved out a shut off on its own...
      Tried to start it again had to hard start kept the key down it eventually started this time it revved out and shut off in less than 5 sec...
