      Excellent! You might even try mixing colors… reference an artist’s color wheel if you want to combine colors. It would be hard to recreate but might yield some interesting results.
      Thanks for watching…

      Thank you... it was a tough winter. There was a death in the family and other things came up which slowed me down. I'm trying to get caught up. Thanks for watching!

      @@madvente Thanks, I appreciate that! I hope you're enjoying the warm weather... if you in the northern hemisphere... I never know where people are geographically.

    I dyed my wheels and it made the plastic softer.

    Did you use the whole powder box ?

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott  Před 2 lety

      Inside the box is a foil packet... it only has a couple tablespoons at most. And yes , I used it all... follow the directions for mixing with appropriate amount of water and use time, how long the parts are in, to determine the color.

    I used to dye the perspex canopies on some of my rc planes. It took quite a bit of trial and error to get it right. Perspex is not dye friendly.

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott  Před 3 lety

      That sounds interesting... were you trying to get a tinting effect, or a solid opaque color?

    • @geordienufc3132
      @geordienufc3132 Před 3 lety

      @@MyRCChannel-CJScott
      Actually both, on one plane I just wanted a tint, on another solid colour. The biggest problem was getting the water temp hot enough for the perspex to take the dye but not so warm that it warped the canopy. I would use other methods if I ever needed to do it again.

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott  Před 3 lety +1

      @@geordienufc3132 Yes, it sounds like a risky process... a little to much heat and you've got a wrinkled ball of plastic instead of a canopy. Getting an even coat of "transparent" paint can be almost as touchy, especially on a curved surface like a canopy. Sometimes there aren't any good solutions.

    Awesome. I wondered how to do this. Is it possible to do this with non-white wheels? I have red ones which I'd like to dye black.

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott  Před 3 lety

      You could probably dye red to black... they may need to soak a bit longer. Going from one color to another would usually not be possible, but going to black can probably be done.

    • @Molekulasti
      @Molekulasti Před 3 lety

      @@MyRCChannel-CJScott I see. I might also try degreasing them, light sanding and using Tamiya matte spray paint.

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott  Před 3 lety

      @@Molekulasti Spray paint would work, but it may not last long... if you really want to change to black, dye is the way to go... and yes, you should degrease and clean well... sanding isn't necessary for dyeing. But, this hobby is a constant learning experience... try painting if you wish.

  • @tripyramidpictures9224

    Just paint them…done deal

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott  Před rokem +1

      Not advisable… first, nylon isn’t a great surface to hold paint. Second, wheels flex a lot and the paint will split and peal. Third, the dye adds no weight and the paint does. But, do as you wish… if it works for you, great.
