I'm in contact with Eric, Chris (original bass player), Donny (original drummer) and Tony (original sax player) ... as for the other cats, I haven't rapped with them in years ... Tony Kanal's manager and I were in contact with each other concerning Tony producing my next production, but we haven't rapped in person in years
I was at this and many of these shows. Loved those early days. I remember being a 17 year old kid in the crowd at the Roxy in December, 1987, hearing the rumors and finding out it was all true. Childhood's end.

Great early song! I can only wonder where these guys would be if John wasn't depressed. What songs we would have had with him and/or gwen. Where the band would be now. Where gwen would be now. What songs of hers and the band's that we wouldn't have if John was still here. His final choice really made a huge impact when you think about it. Thank you uploader for uploading footage of him with the band :) some awesome stuff here.
This is amazing 😍 I’ve been a no doubt fan my whole life and I was born in 86 I would have killed to see them live like this with the original singer !! Rip
The stories were pretty true that John did have such an energetic persona. It's heartbreaking to know the poor guy was scared of performing live and such that lead to him leaving this world. Makes you wonder if No Doubt ended up becoming a double vocal band with him and Gwen on vocals.
I thought I was an early fan watching Gwen when she was 19 in 1988 in Orange County. But wow I wish I had got to see them with Spence. That looked like a wild time.
They had about 5 shows that year at the fender's ballroom. The first one was their first ever oficial show on march 14, but i don't think it's this one because tony can be seen here playing. He joined the band only after their first show.
Did ND have mixtapes pre 1992? I'd think a band drawing this kind of crowd had to have had some early tapes to sell at concerts. I've heard all the demos out there. Is that all there is? THERE HAS TO BE MORE!
No. It's business model failed, maybe due to noise complaints. There were shows their for quite a few years. In the end it was rented out as a religious gathering space, church stuff. It ended up on fire due to homeless camping out inside. That area of Long Beach was not so nice as it is now back in the '80s. One had to watch their back more so then than nowadays.
Jayson TheDrummerandGamer Brian Nichols thanks both for replying, I found No Doubt and Aladdin on GreenerPastures I think, could have been BSO though.
Jayson TheDrummerandGamer Turns out it was BSO after all! Here you go, both demos can be found on this page (along with so many more, really good site) www.doghousegallery.net/audioexplorer/index.php?dir=Audio/Demos%2C+Early+Versions+and+Unreleased/No+Doubt
Hey! I'm looking for info on an early No Doubt show at Fenders in the summer of 87, but this does not look like the show I remember. It was some sort of ska fest and I think the Crooks played there, maybe the Skeletones and the Untouchables, too, not sure. What I do remember is that Gwen was dressed in a red velvet dress, white stockings, black patent leather shoes, and her hair up in two pigtails. Either I am remembering it all wrong or this was not the show. Anyone recognize the show I am talking about?
I don't think it was the Untouchables but rather, Fishbone. Crooks opened I believe, I want to say Mama Stud was there but that might've been at this Mod Expo show. It all gets a bit hazy, doesn't it? I know there is footage of that show around because I've seen the Fishbone set posted up here on youtube and I see myself in the front row and stage diving, but I think the guys from No Doubt are the ones that filmed it so maybe they didn't film themselves? Anyway, good memories brutha!
If John Spence was in a state why weren't the band members recommending help? I love this band but I do not understand why individuals are spared help they need? Senselessness...
@@richardtaylor4292 as a fellow Saxon I believe the 14-18 years are tumultuous and it is hard to know when intervention is necessary. I doubt drinking and drugs had no part in it. If he was straight laced it would have been known.
I think you're right! I was at this show and believe it was in December of 1987. I also think it was one of his last shows and possibly his last. If my memory is correct, Gwen was dating, or involved with Shane Ries from the band, The Key at the time. I went to show this with their road manager. Memories....@@Burym3gently
This was our very first tune written … myself and Chris Leal wrote it in about 10 minutes … for those of you that dig it, thank you - One Love
Nice what are the lyrics exactly?
Well, the lyrics were written by Gwen and John I believe, and to be honest, I forgot the lyrics ...
+Gabriel The Gun Do you still keep in touch with Eric, Gwen, Tony, and other members? I think it would be cool if all of you did a reunion.

Wow they were fire in the beginning, that looked like a fun gig. RIP John Spence.
Watching in 2024. It’s all great but damn I love that intro!
I love how there are like 26 people on stage. most of them just skankin', nothing else!

I think I was there. I saw them multiple times between 87 and 88 at Fenders.
I was there! Great memories.
holy god that is cool
The coolest shit ever. Historic...
Gwen always looks a bit like she doesn't quite know what to do next to John Spence in these old vids.
If there's a soundboard recording of this show I would love to see it get an official release.
i was there that night we played before them the band I was in was "Sold" lol
Holy hell this was more than 20 years ago!
And your comment is from 13 years ago… Holy crap. Timeless
Jeez. This was 16 years ago

This is amazing 😍 I’ve been a no doubt fan my whole life and I was born in 86 I would have killed to see them live like this with the original singer !! Rip

Fenders Ballroom! I was at this show!
Same here.
This shit is actually really really fucking good. All meshes together extremely well
I wish concerts were like this still
The stories were pretty true that John did have such an energetic persona. It's heartbreaking to know the poor guy was scared of performing live and such that lead to him leaving this world. Makes you wonder if No Doubt ended up becoming a double vocal band with him and Gwen on vocals.
Yeah he looks extremely scared here ….😂😂😂😂 stop the nonsense you don’t know what was in that man’s mind
@@BLUEGUTTA enough with you fucking retarded ass emoji bullshit. Learn about mental heath, you cunt

Wish I could have been there. I was 17 at the time and had just started driving.
i love this so much
Omg I love this sooo much!!
2022 I love you No Doubt 💙
💙💙
this is what ND crowds need to become again instead of pretzels standing stale acting like groupies
That is amazing.
haha tony and alan were getting crazy on them horns!
i love the intro

the only tape was their 4 song cassette tape that I had
Yes, they had a tape out for sale at all the shows around '88-'89. My friends promoted/managed them before John passed.
Yes, they had a demo tape, 4 or 5 songs, for sale at most of their earlier shows. My friends promoted them and ran the merch table at the shows.
Around 1988.
there was a 3 song demo in 1987 and a 5 song demo in 1989. check discogs for photos of both of them.
Wish I was there
Love seeing Gwen with her Belinda Carlisle hairdo
Their early performances are reminiscent of the live performances of the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo.
Are there any no doubt recordings with John Spence? Or just live video like this?
I believe their first demo tape has his vocals on. It was a 3 track demo: No Doubt, Showin Off and Everythang.
I was there !
I love the aladdin opening! Im guessing before it was a whole song??
RIP Spence.
Wow this is amazing.
I lookeed it up they demolished it becasue there were so many noise complaints from residents

The first song is fking gooooood!
Bahahaha! Check out all that skankin! This is what the ND album needs to sound like!
yup that's 'No Doubt' (the song)
Anyone know where I could download/buy this song??? No Doubts ska stuff is so good!
You can find it on the website Beacon Street Online.
Brian Nichols ther is also Aladdin which is basically a variation of this song
Jayson TheDrummerandGamer Brian Nichols thanks both for replying, I found No Doubt and Aladdin on GreenerPastures I think, could have been BSO though.

StockholmSam dude. That's the show I was at! I remember them playing soul between the sets. Everyone dancing.

would have loved to be their too bad I would have only been 3 yrs old :-)
Wow, that’s some circus music right there
yep 16 yrs ago would explain the footage. Nuff said.
Is this song on any of their albums??????
Yes, on an early white 4 or 5 song demo-tape. I bought one at the merch table at one of their shows.
Was there
qwen is so cute she's like 10
She was born in 69? More like 18
ahh mates, here you see in the wild, in the flesh... a no doubt fanatic- in it's natural habitat.
i know. but still
Intro name?
Simular Madness or Oingo Boingo?
Yeah sounds like it, i miss these old songs. After ROS, they went down hill for me.
Check out our band PapaFish out of southern california, if you dig the ska/reggae sound, let us know what you think : )
IS he fenders ballroom still there
Fender's closed in '89. Burnt down in the early '90s.
Its sounds like a "mexican feria" with a lot of disorder and loud music.
This reminds me of "Praise Breaks" in Black churches
haha, gwen at 3:16
If John Spence was in a state why weren't the band members recommending help?

Nobody knew. John always seemed very upbeat and happy. It was a compete shock to us all.
