    Unless you only have an impact driver and can't afford a drill, I recommend using a drill for anything requiring a chuck. In my experience, the action of the impact causes often caused the chuck to get SUPER tight, making it a royal pain the loosen it when you want to release whatever it's holding.

    • @mikevlek
      @mikevlek Před 4 lety +2

      That is ofc the best solution but there are also quite a few reasons to use an impact driver with a chuck, i for example sometimes need to drive in a plug for insulation, the bit only goes into a chuck and not a bit holder, but the plug is long and makes it heavy on the hands to use so an impact driver is verry usefull in that situation

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage Před 5 lety +2

      @@Vera-xu3xw This is true, but a lot of those types of accessories are new to me anyways and I honestly just had not thought of using a hole saw on an impact. That was the bigger revelation for me. Even watching the TTR I usually didn't take notice. Know what I mean? Just a good thing to know, hah. Plus hole saws can be quite pricey.

    • @Vera-xu3xw
      @Vera-xu3xw Před 5 lety +10

      @@802Garage you don't buy hole saws you buy the hole saw set that attaches to drills or impact.
      I like my drill with the hole saw it locks the tool in tighter and I would rather feather the trigger and get a nice cut. I'm not in that big if a hurry. Pluse with most good drills you have a dial to set a torque range so you can do delicate jobs or use as a hammer.
      Impacts are Great but they're not for every job.

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage Před 5 lety +4

      @@Vera-xu3xw I mean not being in a hurry doesn't mean it's inconvenient to get the job done faster and easier. If I can drill a 3" hole in metal to pass an exhaust through and not have the drill catch and try to sprain my wrist and also get it done quickly, I'm totally down! Those kits are still expensive is all I meant and if you already own the older style it's a nice thing to have.

    Milwaukee makes a piece for hole saws with a quick release to separate the holesaw from the pilot bit. Makes it especially easy to clean out because it has the hole in the bottom where the pilot bit came out of to push it from.

    Great idea but a lot of negative comments on DeWalt's website about the 'hex adapter' unscrewing from the chuck because there is no secondary locking system (like a centre screw with left-hand thread), in fact, the reviews really slam it. Would be nice to see some comment, maybe investigation from you good guys at VCG. There are many other 1/4" hex to normal chuck offerings and most appear to have a secondary lock mechanism.

    • @acidforblood
      @acidforblood Před 2 lety

      I just read some Amazon reviews where this tool gets bits locked into the chuck and are impossible to take off as well as the hex part unscrewing and breaking off leaving the chuck useless. I think I'll stick with hex drill bits if I need to use that in an impact driver and leave regular non hex drill bits for my DeWalt drill. Keep things simple. A lot of toys out there but its good to know their limitations.

    I have one of these that's probably about twenty years old. I forget the brand but they sold them as a solution to those who had keyed chucks and wanted to upgrade without replacing their drill. Old solution renewed for a new "problem" (though, I can't say I'd choose this over using a real drill).

    Hearing loss is REAL, tinnitus is REAL!
    Don’t be silly and try to use your impact for everything.
    This tool attachment reminds me of my helpers the first week that they’re on the job site and you constantly catch them with drillbits in the impacts and then driving fasteners with the drills... 🤦🏼‍♂️

      The hearing issue has been solved with the invention of hearing protection.

      And with a drill you have more control of the fastener

      I think every soldier who is sitting at home who is partially disabled because they depended upon their faulty hearing protection from 3M should be able to come over to your house and box your ears.
      I would put a link to the class action lawsuit from US service personnel but you’re not allowed to drop links on this channel.
      You want to trust your hearing to a multinational corporation whose job it is is to make profit not look out for your health and safety? 🤦🏼‍♂️

      Then why use an impact driver at all?!?

    At low speeds it's great for. Tapcon bits for screws or bolts in concrete ,the impact guns work like a mini hammer drill

    love this dude! feel like im watching Joe-E from friends. Chuck adapter is a great option to have now. I like options and will buy one for sure. It might save some space, or weight, or changing hands.
