I know the sound can be quite foreign to some and perhaps even strange, but to indigenous people, it's like a warm blanket. It's great to hear our amazing Cree friends singing! Respect from a Tuscarora!
@@regierse yeah he said he was expecting lyrics, but there were. something along the lines of "everyone throw your hands in the air. take my hand pretty girl, we're gonna make it all right."
I’m Cree and it’s usually sung in our language while it may sound foreign to you it’s because it is a foreign language to you but it’s been here 20,000 years! Nowadays it’s interspersed with english
HYPE!!!! i used to travel alot in the pow wow and round dance singing circut and i appreciate you for taking a interest in our way of blended music!! it is trully entertaining stuff and interesting, i myself dabble in extreme sports filming lol
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. What a celebration! This definitely shows a fusion of traditional ritual with cultural borrowing from other sources. The lyrics are in the original language, not English. Nice pick.
they actually do say some stuff in english. it's something along the lines of "everyone throw your hands in the air. take my hand pretty girl, we're gonna make it all right." but there are parts that are just vocalizations.
Some have already suggested A Tribe Called Red (now known as The Halluci-nation); I will further pinpoint a recommendation for reaction: R.E.D., featuring an artist with whom you may be familiar: Yaasin Bey...formerly known as Mos Def. Absolutely has lyrics, absolutely spits bars, and absolutely incredible.
The traditional Secwepemc were semi-nomadic. In the winter, they lived in warm, semi-underground “pit-houses” and during the summer, they lived in mat lodges made from reeds. The traditional Shuswap economy was based on fishing, hunting, and trading. Their diet consisted of fish, meat, berries and roots.
Definitely Ontario. Drum=heard beat. Saw dream catchers. Did anyone suggest the video for Burn your village to the ground by A Tribe Called Red, or Buffy St Marie or the Jerry Can's Ahead by a Century cover?
I first found these types of artists when NPR of all places did a story on "protest music" and played A Tribe Called Red. Always look for new music and I recently found DJ Shub and he's great. Love "Calling all dancers" as well
Now I need to look up DJ Shub. Growing up in rural and with my mom teaching at a school that had a high native population... I got a good exposure to the culture and it's always intrigued me. I absolutely LOVE how he used the native music as a basis for this. The fancy dancers are always fun to watch, and it's cool to see the different styles of the different tribes. **EDIT** I just checked out his video 'Calling all Dancers' Even if you don't react to it... it's FIRE.
It's so much fun!!! I love going to Pow Wows !!! I'm adopted Oklahoma Apache and Comanche. Awesome music. My mom and I used to go to the Comanche Indian School in Lawton Oklahoma where we would watch handgames with the Cree. The Cree would come down on a bus from where they were from. Good days. Fond memories. They did play drums at the handgames, too.
1) Love that you pulled out the rings...don't know if you wear them more often, but certainly noticed them this time around 2) If you are vibing on this, then you NEED to check out Snotty Nose Rez Kids...Boujee Natives, Long Hair Don't Care..it all slaps
I knew you were a Brother but I didn't know you are a Brother. My nephews are Indigenous Black. I am happy to see you are proud of your Dene heritage. My family are Dene from up North. The Dene from down south are related to us Dene from up North. WE could be cousins. Lol So happy you listened to DJ Shrub. I recommend listening to: Studio Enjoy: Supaman - 'Prayer Loop Song'
Woooo so glad you were into this! If you want more of this type of thing look into Supaman. Here are two of my faves from him, the first is Know Better Do Better - czcams.com/video/RuoynYcUMvw/video.html And the next one, also by Supaman, is Why - czcams.com/video/OiVU-W9VT7Q/video.html
Bro, mad respect for exposing me to new Native music. Another primo reason I have you SUBBED & 🔔- I'll be checking out DJ Shub. Up where I live in Centeral WI, Pow-Wow's are a must attend every summer!
When you hear this 16 year old street performer she will bring tears to your eyes -I have never heard such a voice in my 60 years listing to music .Radiohead - Creep Allie Sherlock Type that in and close your eyes and listen then watch it again with eyes open . Unbelievable - just listen to the modulation of her drawn out notes so good.
Northern Cree is top of the line drum group around Canada and America love those boys I'm Navajo like you said Dineh people sounds good thanks for the video
I listen to your Eminem reactions bc I’m a Native/Indigenous Marshall aka Eminem Stan. This reaction SURPRISED 😲 me. I am now Subscribing sir. PS and you have Dine 🩸 blood More Surprised ✊🏽 respect Sir!
Did you know there's a movie called Rumble: the natives that rocked the world. In it it talks about how native slaves were also placed on plantations. Where our ancestors bred with your ancestors. Which where most African American or afro Canadian people are "part" native. But we see it as if you have a drop of native blood in you, you are native. (What's up cousin!) Anyways, people such as Jimi hendrix was part Cherokee. But the record labels and others told jimi never to speak about that side of his family. Because nobody likes natives. And being native is bad for business. There were many others I can't name because I haven't seen it in awhile. But I suggest you check it out. 👍🏿✊🏿
Have you heard of the Native Indian Band called Broken Walls? Some of their songs are 1)Beautiful Great One, 2)We Dance Before You, 3)Fly, 4)Ride The Wind, 5)Khenoronkhwa Jesus Is Good Medicine. Would you be willing to listen to at least one of their songs?
Wee chaaa love it. I see that genuin smile while ur listening. Its a part of our culture in new music form. Love it. Love that you have this on your channel. Natives dont get enough props for the music they have and will make. A great dancer is Patrick Willie. He has some dancw videos worth checkin out.

I know the sound can be quite foreign to some and perhaps even strange, but to indigenous people, it's like a warm blanket. It's great to hear our amazing Cree friends singing! Respect from a Tuscarora!

Translation almost impossible to get.
Beautiful 😍
The lyrics are in English :) the song is sampled from Young and Free by Nothern Cree Singers. The parts you can’t understand are vocalizations.
@@regierse yeah he said he was expecting lyrics, but there were. something along the lines of "everyone throw your hands in the air. take my hand pretty girl, we're gonna make it all right."
So glad you reacted to this. Filmed in Toronto and the surrounding area. NDN City by A Tribe Called Red is also a great one. Meegwetch!!
'A Tribe Called Red' renamed themselves a long while ago to 'The Halluci Nation'. based on a spoken word poem they did music for.
