    And in a couple years your frame will be trashed when the nutserts get ripped out from the weight of the battery. That happened to my wife's Trek 7.5 with the OEM mounting location. I strongly advise NOT using this mounting method. Mount the battery to something that wraps around the frame from the top tube. There exist water bottle mounting fixtures that strap around the tube. The Shark battery is too heavy to be mounted the way it was designed. It is a serious design flaw.

    • @johnfeather9647
      @johnfeather9647 Před 2 lety +1

      That's right. It happened to me too. I solved it by making an aluminium bracket which mounts to the existing bottle cage mounts, plus two jubilee/hose clips around the bracket to hold it securely onto the downtube, with some old inner tube to protect the frame from the hose clips and give a tighter fit. Ready made similar brackets used to be available, and have one on another bike, but they don't seem to be available any longer, at least not with the jubilee/hose clips, which is an essential part.

      This only happened because you mounted it to a regular bike which is not designed to be an ebike. Real eBikes have much stronger frames and will not be damanged by the battery weight.

  • @ebikeengineer
    @ebikeengineer Před 2 lety +3

    Why drill holes into the frame? I disassembled the battery cradle, added holes in the aluminum chassis, there are only 3 small screws holding the plastic body onto the aluminum chassis. Then mount the chassis onto the water bottle holes, and reassemble with the 3 screws that hold the plastic to the aluminum chassis. It worked and it means you don't have to deal with nutserts.

      Hi bro! I am literally thinking of doing this but i lack knowledge in drill sizes.. what drill bit type and size you used?

    • @ebikeengineer
      @ebikeengineer Před rokem

      @@Holyeddybear I pulled one of the water bottle screws, measured it with a drill gauge (first size the threaded section drops through cleanly), that tells you what bit size to use. Took me all of a minute. It takes longer to disassemble the battery cradle than to select the right drill bit.

    My cradle sat off-set, meaning the battery was leaning to one side 😢, I bought the “Grin triple Bob mount”. They use alternate hose clamps. Which allowed me to shift the cradle just a little bit to center the battery.❤. Super strong mount.

    Why not uses the original two holes.
    What is already there for the bottle holder.
    Just need to drill two holes in the battery mount.
    That way you don't need to drill extra holds in bike frame.
    Obviously 2 at the bottom & 2 at the top will be the best.

    I have a battery like yours that didn't fit the bottle mountings so I mounted it up side and it would have wobbled if it fitted correctly so I used 2 stainless steel jubilee clips joined and when tightened "forms" around the battery and it's rock solid.
    Nice video. I used the jubilee clips before on my old bike that got stolen recently so starting again. This time a 36v 15ah

    Have a question, I have 5 Li Ion batteries, 18 volts and 5 ah each.
    If I put 3 of them in parallel, that would be a 18 volts with 15 ah of capacity, then take that source into series with the remaining 2 batteries which should give me a power supply of 54 volts and 15 ah of capacity. correct???
    Would the 35 amp upgrade controller handle that power source??
