For me, still unsurpassed. The beauty of the voice, coupled with a deep understanding of the words and music. A sublime experience every time ones hears this piece.
Nielsen was the premier singer of Isolde from my childhood to some years ago when I discovered Waltraut Meier. When I heard Meier for the first time as Isolde she moved me like no other Wagnerian singer had..!!! Meier sang her last role as Isolde in 2015 and listeing to Stemme here has moved me to believe that I have found a new star in the Wagnerian firmament...!!! She is amazing...!!!
I first heard Birgit Nilsson sing this amazing piece of music that just keeps building and building without resolving until that most powerful of endngs. Nina Stemme's version just moved me to tears. Words cannot express how it made me feel.
Just unbelievable. She is so EFFORTLESS. There is no "digging in" that you see in some Wagnerians - her voice just sits on top of her breath so beautifully. Brava.
Amen to that sir. This seriously is like the greatest example of dramatic singing that I have ever found. You cannot sing this aria or role better than Nina Stemme does it. She was born to sing this role. Simply unbelievable performance. And I would know. I myself am an aspiring opera singer, so I know when something truly is amazing. And this pretty much was the most amazing performance of Liebestod that I have ever heard.
besides her late Jessie Norman is best of the bested .I was completlely blown off when I have heard her interpretation . This is also magnificent. But you cannot compare their voices = both are perfect only interpretation
The best Wagnerian voice signing the most beautiful piece of music, ever composed. Yes, Wagner is definitely the Master of the Masters. Thank you, Germany, for producing such an abundant number of great composers. Forever in your debt!
this is by far, the best version of Mild und Leise of the current sopranos, not to mention that she's the leading soprano on wagner roles these days, specially here, as Isolde, even in a concert, Nina is absolutely able to show us the true feelings that Isolde is passing throught in that moment of grief. Everytime I watch this video, I'm taken away by her huge and strong voice. Her tecnique is flawless and her voice echoes on every single corner of the room. Nina is a wonderful soprano. Brava!
Wow! Incredible degree of power, precision, passion, beautiful singing, dramatic expression. This is the future of Wagner. Thank you Nina!!!!!!! I'm buying all of your CDs right now.
Wow, I’ve never heard a voice like this. I just had a moment similar to when I first heard Callas voice. It’s amazing how different various soprano voices are. I have so much respect for vocal instructors now. It’s like coaching snowflakes! Can’t imagine how difficult that would be.
Brava!!!Nina Stemme is superb!!!a so touching interpretation with a wonderful voice!!! Great to hear her for this the first time...hope to hear much more from her BRAVA!!!
I find her extremely inspiring--she's beautiful, sings beautifully, and HAS SOMETHING TO SAY! I don't usually listen to singers of today because I find them mediocre. This girl is wonderful and I'm glad she's around for us to hear "live". Brava! Christine Weidinger
Nina Stemme is an absolute diva, saw her Isolde in London and Kundry in Munich, certainly my operatic highlights. Tristan and Isolde is undoubtedly the pinnacle of music.
I cannot believe that a human voice is able to deliver such beauty, force and tenderness what a wonderful piece of music brings tears to my eyes every time
*****The best I have ever heard since Kirsten Flagstad 70 years ago on a recording. Simply unreachable facility of lustruous tone and perfection of execution.*****
I feel at this level anyone saying someone else is better is pure snobbery, this is artistry at it's finest. The orchestral performances may be different but the artist commands it with their emotion, timing, presence, tone, ... many have done this piece justice, maybe differently but not better? Appreciating the nuances is part of mature appreciation.
I must respond to your notion of "pure snobbery". Operatic deliverances/performances and the art of musical interpretation are both opionated and controversial. It becomes synonymous to the interpretations of a complex piece of literature or a literary work that leaves room for what you see and hear from those who are in disagreement with you. However, all in all, Miss STEMME offered an extremely TOUCHING performance of an aria that is NOT easy to excute. I actually like her!
Gorgeous, beautiful Wagnerian singing--this doesn't happen too often. The only other person I know who didn't sound like a shrill termagant when singing Wagner was Eileen Farrell. Thanks for posting this.
I went on the 17th too! Wow, wasn't it incredible?! The set, the prelude, everything was amazing. It was my first time at the Met, but it will not be my last!
Nina Stemme is the real thing! Just heard her complete 1st Ring Cycle at SF Opera today. She was nothing less than incandescent. What an Immolation Scene! A Brunnhilde for the ages! Majestic, powerful, absolutely resplendent in every way.
PROFOUND! I am godsmacked! I dont understand my reaction to this? I have seldom had such a viseral experience. I have never in my life wept so hard over a piece of music. I am moved beyond words. Something in me has changed?!! What just happened to me?
aisiantonas totally agree. I think Tristan und Isolde in the Everest Of all music. It’s been downhill ever since. Saw Stemme perform Isolde a few year ago in New York. Disappointing production but she was amazing.
The one of the best opera arias. I'd love to call it the best, sung by the best soprano of our time. Powerful, delicate, and most beautiful. Brava, Nina!
I... don't know what to say. I'm speechless, and that seldom happens to me. I feel like one of my favorite arias has been reinvented anew. Sung for the very first time.
This is so incredible. I bow down infront of Nina Stemme! This Liebestod is probably my favourite..she is absolutely incredible. Just THANK YOU! AMAZING
This is my favourite aria, I'm not from the united states, I'm not a nazi at all, much on the contrary and the ignorance of people astounds me. I have heard most of the best recordings and live performances of this aria available and I think this is one of the best renditions I've ever heard. Those of you who said the orchestra is too big, or that her voice is not strong enough don't seem to have heard the greatest recordings, or even enough renditions. There are some moments where the notes are witten in such a way that the orchestra always covers some notes, because it goes in a crescendo while the voice is singing low notes. Her singing is flawless and her tone is very beautiful. Go get some instruction and hear her again.
I can't but fully agree with what you said. And I would like to add that, on stage, at the Wiener Staatsoper last year, she also showed she can be a fantastic actress. I cried as a baby as she was singing this aria while she seemed to be drawn by an irresistible whirlpool of disarray and sadness. Hopefully I will cry again next January at the Zurich opera.
@@cleosertori7487 Nobody cares if you're a nazi or a cockroach virgin boy in a basement somewhere,. You're just as stupid as it comes. Or just really immature. Or both.
The only one I've seen that has moved me to tears. She drew me in and took me to crests in that music I haven't been to before. I exaggerate not - I have heard 100 performances at least.
Stemme joins Flagstad and Nilsson as the greatest Wagnerian soprano of the last 100 years. I think she exceeds them both in the Liebestod...majesterial yet warm and human in her performance. I am grateful to have heard both her and Nilsson sing in person.
Nina, IMO, is probably well underrated........what a voice....towers over the orchestra....of course, she is singing one incredible piece of music. Upgrade here from very good to outstanding!!!
For me, still unsurpassed. The beauty of the voice, coupled with a deep understanding of the words and music. A sublime experience every time ones hears this piece.
Sublime. There are no words.
I'm a singer and I still don't understand how so much sound can come from one person! A truly fantastic interpretation!
I'm grateful for having been introduced to opera, even though late in my life!
Amen to that brother! Hope you’re still enjoying it! 😊
Still one of my favourite versions of Liebestod. She was at her absolute peak here.
This is the most beautiful piece of music ever composed.
Indeed ❤️
every singer singing this looks absolutely amazed in the end... it must be "höchest lust" to sing that.

Oh my God!! Anyone who can listen to this and not be shaken and moved to tears has no soul.
Nina Stemme's 2014 performance of Isolde at the ROH was one of the most overwhelming experiences of my life.
Mine too.
This is the most wonderful thing I have ever heard.
Wow! No words to describe the beauty and power of this!!!
All I can offer here is deep gratitude for such gifted, obviously brilliantly trained and deeply expressive singers such as Ms. Stemme.
I first heard Birgit Nilsson sing this amazing piece of music that just keeps building and building without resolving until that most powerful of endngs. Nina Stemme's version just moved me to tears. Words cannot express how it made me feel.
I agree. One of the best, Hovsångerska. But not known in Sweden.
pgiuser She was unknown to me too... an opera critic!
This is beyond words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just unbelievable. She is so EFFORTLESS. There is no "digging in" that you see in some Wagnerians - her voice just sits on top of her breath so beautifully. Brava.
Sensacional, es la voz wagneriana del presente: una voz hermosísima, un volumen espectacular, y la interpretación, sublime! Gracias!!!
First time I've heard this version.
My goodness - the sheer POWER of Nina Stemme's voice !! Excellent!
I listen Nina Stemme every day, and her Liebestod every night! Bravissima !!!
All of the gods in Valhalla bless you!
All I can say is WOW! What an amazing voice. And that train!
Beautiful!! I began to cry when I heard it!!

Nina Stemme, the best of our time. I like the color of her voice. Great interpretation. She moves me to tears !!!
Absolutely astonishing and she achieves to make one cry. This is the real sense of Wagner's music, to express the absolute human feelings.

I was going to write a comment--then I read yours--can't be improved--all those adjectives for Frau. Stemme!!

Absolutely the BEST EVER. This performance belongs to the Pantheon of Eternal Beauty.

A very intuitive and smart comment. My guess is that you have played an instrument. Glad you enjoy this version of Ms. Stemme. 🙂
WOW!!!!! First time hearing La Stemme.... quite a voice, lovely singing, WOW!
Never in my entire life will I forget her Isolde. Sheer perfection. It makes you grateful to be alive.
Stunning a true dramatic soprano, which is rare to hear in these times.
STUNNING combination of talents. Wagner, of course, but Stemme seems to me to be the ultimate Isolde. Deeply moving.
Superb! She did very well today at the Met. Standing ovations. It is a marvellous piece of music and a beautiful interpretation.
Fantastic voice, make me feel astonished, she is singing from the heaven Wagner is also with her.
It's Godly. Perfect intonation. I just cannot get over this.

CosmosNut its finest. Damned google corrector.
Nina Stem is at least equal to Birgit Nilsson and Kirsten Flagstad, and someway better for her interpretation, color, and diction
The shear difficulty of this part demands nothing less that a superb singer, and she sure is superb.

i can only describe this voice as totally satisfying to listen to , her breadth of tone , power and control is incredibly beautiful .
Beautiful, rounded and warm voice

One of the all time for me -most satisfying performances.of this gem of an aria. Flagstad would surely have applauded her. Brava!
Legendary.
Sublime musique ! Sublime Nina ! ....une des plus grandes Isolde de tous les temps !!!!
Dear Lord, that was so beautiful ♥
That's incredibly good. Such awesome singing
After the Liebestod, all other music sounds like a toddler practising 'Happy Birthday to You'.

I love that ever so fleeting little smile at the end because she knows she has nailed it.
Yeah...she nailed it! Stuck that landing!
I'm deeply moved. She is giving a very human voice to Isolde. Young, fresh and so alive. By the way, impressing vocal technique!
Wonderful, Nina Stemme! Brava!
