We are back to Sydney Chinatown to do part 4 on what to eat and where to eat in Sydney’s Chinatown plus covering the newly introduced NSW Dine & Discover vouchers. The NSW Government has launched Dine & Discover NSW to encourage the community to get out and about and support dining, arts and tourism businesses. How to apply this Dine and Discover vouchers are from Service NSW website or mobile app. All NSW residents aged 18 and over can apply 4 x $25 vouchers worth $100 in total. 2 x $25 Dine NSW vouchers and 2 x $25 Discover NSW vouchers.
These Dine and Discover NSW vouchers can be used at participating NSW businesses. Today we show you how you can use and where you can use the Dine vouchers in Sydney Haymarket Chinatown. We will use 4 x $25 Dine vouchers and see whether we succeed to eat for free!
In this Sydney food tour, we visited Kowloon Café for traditional Hong Kong breakfast. Kowloon Café is an authentic Hong Kong styled café (cha chaan teng) in the heart of Sydney’s Chinatown. There are so many Hong Kong street food options including HK style French toast, pineapple bun, baked pork chop, curry fish ball, HK style milk tea, noodle soup and many more HK style snacks. We will need to come back for sure to try more Hong Kong food as we only tried the traditional HK breakfast.
For lunch, we head down to Ho Jiak, Malaysian restaurant with modern fusion twist of Penang street food and Nyonya food with prominent Chinese Malaysian flavours. While their signature char kway teow is one of the best so far in Sydney, we tried something different - KFC crispy rendang and salted egg chicken wings. Salted egg chicken wings is a great appetizer, if you like the fish skin, you can try their salted egg crispy fish skin too. The fried chicken with Colonel’s KFC recipe cooked in a spicy aromatic chicken curry - this surprisingly is so delicious, perfect with rice!
For dessert, we off to Thaitown area in Pitt St to a Thai dessert café called Mango Coco, an aesthetic dessert café in the middle of Sydney City CBD. Since this is a mango café, we can’t go home until we order Mango Bingsu!

Wonder how d kfc fried chicken served with rendang sauce would taste. Chicken or beef, cooked n simmered in coconut milk with ground chillies n aromatics made it looks like curry, but it's not. Rendang has to include 'kerisik' add d middle or towards d end of cooking to take d taste to another level. D finely shredded turmeric leaves n crushed lemongrass make it more aromatics. Kerisik, by d way, is fresh grated coconut toasted over low heat until golden brown, cooled down to crisp it up further, n pound into paste n residue oil. My late mom's rendang, remains todate, d best rendang in d world. I'm so happy that rendang made it to your top 50 best food in Malaysia. 😁🇲🇾😁
