I was one of the first ones to ride it back in 72. I was one of the last ones to ride it in 23. I was in the second to last train. Not counting the special train after the Park closed. What was neat was there's a little boy 7 years old riding it for the first and last time on the last public train. Lee rode the fire hall five times that day. On the third time there's a man that was in his sixties and it was the first time he was riding the ride. It was almost a pilgrimage for us to be there on the last day. I did not 🚫 enter the contest beyond the last train after hours. The perks of doing social media I presume. I had forgotten about the apparent broken track. Thanks for reminding me that was a fun part of the ride at one time. It was stopped a couple of times so the stories could be told at the different scenes. They cut that out a long time ago and sped up the cars so that they could put more people through. I would say the second time I wrote it on the last day it was the fastest ride it was like the thing was turbocharged. Let's not forget the 20 something year old man who was essentially decapitated on the ride years ago..

My great uncle Allen Schaefer was one of the people that helped design the OG Fire in the Hole. As well as a lot of the other rides at SDC and the slides at White Water. His brother, my other great uncle Lou Schaefer was the Mayor of Branson from 95-07 and oversaw a massive expansion of Branson into the tourist mecca it is today. Super proud of both of them and our Branson heritage. My family just got back from a trip to Branson, and we all rode the new Fire in the Hole for the first time since the remake. It's a perfect nod to the old one with just the right amount of modernization to take it to the future.

During my first visit to Silver Dollar City as a kid, my mom told me the story of how her father played a trick on her when she was a kid herself by telling her Fire in the Hole was a calm ride about the history of firefighting of that time period, then taking her on the ride and playing dumb when it turned out to… not be that.
She told me this story after playing the same trick on me.

The whole ride is actually a pretty insane experience. It really does start from the time you walk in till the time you leave the car. The old hillbilly Missouri vibe is really brought out with the the theme, story line, and animations. Also yes very dark and kinda creepy as you mention. There was also the Lost Mine which was basically a water ride shoot-em-up version of this, with similar animations and overall vibe.

Fire in the hole is such a traditional part of silver dollar city. I hate hearing talks that they are going to rebuild it somewhere else in the park. They’re trying to get too modern. The whole idea of the park is to step back in time. Getting rid of the original fire in the hole will just be a tragedy if it happens.

Exactly. My grandparents had their honeymoon at silver dollar city in 1973. Looking back at all the pics they have it looks so authentic. Nothing like it is now. They used to have random gunfights, able to shoot real 50 cal muskets and would shoot cannons. Nothing like that anymore

@@StorybookAmusement I'll be honest I will be a hard sell on the replacement ride. I'm glad that you enjoyed the story. Maybe other people will too. Hey you know they've got a 5-year plan to level the original fire in the hole. That's a pretty high source that I got that from. And that source went on to say well they say they don't have any plans for next 5 years for that location which just means they're not saying with that plan is. That source also figures that they'll build something there quicker than the 5 years and the place will be erased quicker than 5 years. Now see that source told me what that person knew. You can't blame management and family for keeping it really close to the vest. I'm not saying if that source is male or female because it would be too easy for somebody to track down the source. I am grateful that we were able to make it there on the last day especially and ride that ride a few more times. Supposed history know it's real history. But it'll be interesting how they change the baldnobbers appearances. Thank you for doing your original episode.

I’ve been on this ride many times in my childhood and I’ve always been kinda scared if it and now reading about it. On July 9, 1980, 23-year-old James Frederick Polley was one of several passengers riding a train on Fire in the Hole, which was mistakenly thought to be empty. The train was switched from the main tracks onto a maintenance track heading towards a storage area with a low hanging door. Maintenance workers shouted at the passengers to duck. Polley failed to react and smashed his head on the door. The accident was ruled a case of human error and the ride re-opened two days later.
