Harley-Davidson of Ft. Wayne... New subscriber here. Cool video but I would like to hear things like fastener torque specs, go over what the critical fasteners are, fluid capacities etc instead of the music.. I am a Master Tech as well for Harley's and automotive. I already know all of that but most viewers do not and that is why they are watching, so they can learn how to service their own bike.. When I do a "three hole" service no matter what the mileage is in addition to changing the fluids I always clean the air filter or replace it, inspect the sparkplugs and replace them every 10k miles, adjust the clutch to factory spec, check tire pressure, check and insure the brake pads and rotors are within spec, check the drive belt and adjust if needed, lubricate the cables (if applicable), lubricate all of the lubrication points, check the state of the battery and the charging system, check that all lights work correctly and check all of the critical fasteners with a torque wrench when a torque value is stated.. Yes it takes a little bit longer but a full service is expensive so I want to make sure my customers get what they pay for..
This is exactly how i service my bike. Get the three-hole done and check everything else. I only bring my HD for its initial 1k Break-In service, the rest I do myself.
I was actually honestly surprised how much was done on this check up and fluid change. I think it’s worth the money to have a trained tech look over the bike. Wasn’t expecting that.
My Road Glide is coming up on 10k so need to take it in for service. Those of you familiar with HD service departments, are they all as thorough as Josh?
I liked the video but not the music. Hearing all the facts is important. Perhaps if you could list the steps, the torque settings, pressure settings and items required, it would be more succinct and easier to remember (by taking notes). Thank you.
I will bet most Harley techs will not do half the stuffs did guy just did. I just did my 5000 miles and my bike rear bearing blew after I drove away. Brand new bike.
Interesting your checking ‘critical’ fasteners with just a wrench or ratchet & socket. I was trained that if the OE provided a torque spec, use a torque wrench to confirm tightness. Yes, I have a clicking elbow (automotive tech) but on two wheels, safety is priority.. Do you ‘wet’ (partially fill) the oil filter media prior to installing? Spark plugs - my local dealer recommends replacing every 5k. Even though they are supposed to be 100k on Rushmore bikes. Ball missing in floor board. That’s warranty, right....
@@toolbrothers1477 Nope! I signed up for the VIP service plan when I bought my bike. EVERY service is free for three years regardless how many miles I ride plus one free battery & one free tire and a discount on storage if I want it. I did this plan on my last bike(2017 RGS) and believe me I more than made back my money(I would have paid triple what the service plan cost me). But yes they are expensive, the 5K at my dealer is about $450.
@@zososhep I work for HD and if your financing a 2021 RGS bone stock with decent credit at 60 months it’s close to 40k. Not mentioning your VIP program 😂. And if you start adding your bars/slip ons etc that’s pretty close to 40k OTD. Post a video of your RGS on your channel 😂
Personally bad idea using power to to run steel screws into aluminum case with or with out starting them first there is a tool called a speed handle more professional choice
How much. You do good work, Gina more trust from folks by starting your videos with how much $. Trust me you’ll gain a ton of respect and your dealer will make more money. Especially if off camera you do the same work. Good job. USMC/USAF Ret.
Some good information. I would always fill my oil to the top. Never had much issues with blow by or oil transfer. What do you think of the vented dipstick? Or the catch can breather system? Are they needed, thank you.
The only good thing this guy mentioned was measuring the drive belt and anti-seize for certain areas. Other than that I’ve seen better work. With what wasn’t shown, I’d be shooting myself in the foot paying the money for this dealer’s workmanship.
As per Touring Models 2023 Harley-Davidson Owners Manual, "Do not use air cleaner filter oil on the Harley-Davidson paper/wire mesh or synthetic air filter element".
Could you please do a different video WITHOUT the music and WITHOUT fast forwsrding???????? I personally would have liked to just watch him do a full service regular speed and just talk about what and why he is doing what he is doing while he is doing it!!!!!
Boy this is the guy I want to do my service! Like someone else said I hope all dealers are as thorough. My fear is I'm paying $600 for an oil change!
They are not doing all this.

Yea right. They aren't even like this probably. It's for the camera.
Surprised you didn't check the water content of the brake fluid

Well done! Appreciate all the tips and info! Thank you!!
This video had the potential to be absolutely perfect. But the fast forwarding through critical fasteners was a mistake.
Those handle barrrrrrrrs!
Damn I want Josh to do my 5k!! Awesome detail!
Thanks for the video! Cool to see behind the scenes.

Watching this because you caught your dealership not doing the basic checks and want to know what else they didn't do.....
Great video, thanks for doing it…from a fellow Fort Wayne-er🤪
Nice video Ironhead. Beautiful bike too.
Thanks for this video, I needed to understand better what I was paying for.

no
Hell no, any complaints? No, okay, change oil, check tire pressure and away you go, schmuck.

very thorough brother, thank you.
you know this dude is the real deal with the cracked pocket protector. :)
Ok. Hold up. I had my service done and I got charge an hour for labor. This guy just did it in 18 minutes. 😁

Loved the vid
My dealership doesn’t give us any reports of what was done they just put their hands out for money

Careful with the “p” word. You’ve got gentlemen and you’ve got slobs when it comes to mechanical work.
Do you need to recharge the filter or just wash it?

Audio quality was not great on this video. I could not hear properly so could you comment on what compound was used instead of Loctite?.
Hi Peter, the product Josh recommends using is Anti-Seize
I heard what he said just fine. Anti-seize.

You didn’t pull the seat & check the battery connections?

the dealers should warm the oil better than that for an oil change.....,
Why would u fast forward overcritical fasteners and go live on cleaning air filter
How much mil was on the dif plugs?
Where's the list for "critical fasteners" in the shop manual?
Under critical fasteners in the manual.
@@jimscycleandautotn8508 no, they are not in the touring manual.

Why didn't you add oil to the filter

good to know
When do spark plugs get changed?
IronSteed.. Typically every 10K miles..
I change mine every 5000 miles. they are cheap enough and I like mine running at its best.
Well he missed the filter
Yeah but Is it worth almost 600 dollars when it looks like it takes 1 or 2 hours.
I think so
Am I the only one that noticed they never changed oil filter?....
5:36 new filter
Can you do a 50k

This will be a whole lot better without that stupid music or noise and slow it down and explain things more so I give this a low rating
Every Harley horn sounds like a castrated sheep.

This handle bars are gaaaayyy!
