    1. Constantly tell him he's the next "player".
    2. Train him to hard as a kid as all of this could be for nothing when puberty sets in.

I doubt you ever played sports. The likelihood of this kid making the NHL is still nearly 0%. The amount of money and time this dad invests every year is extremely high. Easily over 30k a year with how much this kid trains and the gas hotels everything else involved. As well as another full time job. All this to maybe on a less than 1% chance he makes the NHL. Go drink some more soy milk.

Unless he gets much bigger his teenage years will be rough. Smalls guys are able to make things happen in the NHL but for size comparison I'm 6'7" and well over 200lbs. I can accidentally bump into people and they fall over. If I had to lace them up against pros I would be the equivalent of Chara. When I play hockey guys fall over trying to run me. If I wanted to take a run at a smaller guy it would be unfair and I tend not to because I'm fearful of hurting someone in a friendly game. If I was pro... I'd injure people without trying. This kid better be humble or someone like me will end him before he can lace them up as a pro. For those wondering why I'm not a pro... had it not been for a bad knee I would have given it a shot but way too early I was told that I'm on thin ice with my knees so obviously I never went for it.

As a supportive father I will do everything in my power to maximize the results of the effort he's willing to put in. I will also research the best programs, drills and coaches for him. It's an incredible investment of time and money and you if have a kid who wants to put in the work, may as well turn it up to an 11 and see what happens.

That's b*ullshit! His father is his greatest supporter and obviously wants better for the kid and does everything he can to help him.
Unfortunately, we're living in a generation (I'm speaking of the millennials, specially) with young people who thinks they can do everything they want to and their parents are the obstacle. No, we're not!!! No one loves our kids like we do. No one wants the best for them more than we do. Everything we do it's always for the best!!!
Of course we made mistakes. But we always want to do the best for our kids. That's something I try to teach to my little daughter every single day. That's what the good parents do for their kids. And I see his dad doing it.

Roman is a great player and has great work ethic. I was probably this good at 8 years old and went on to play in the OHL with London for about half a year before having a very successful JR.A Career, but unfortunately it ended there. Lot's of people think that being so good young just automatically means this kid is going to the NHL but it's just not the case at all.... and it has absolutely nothing to do with being too small, because it's just not a factor in today's NHL. It's a lot more of skill, speed and smarts in the NHL now.
I wish him the best of luck, as he gets older though and he develops more, don't be too hard on him. It's good to push your kid and expect the best from him but you don't want to be one of those hockey dads who just thinks his kid is the best and always getting into it with him. Just let him enjoy the game and keep working hard and there is always that possibly that he may make it if he wants it bad enough.
The one thing I can say though is, after I finished up playing, I was a hockey instructor and the kids our just getting better and better in all aspects at such a young age. I had 4 year old kid's I was teaching who were literally doing it all. Impressive stuff!

It's just sad to know that there are those with this opportunity that dont realize it. They take every second on the ice for granted, and every opportunity they've ever been givin, also for granted. And to know that there are those who are so passionate about there sport that they give everything they have to improve, when really they arnt given the chance. So many of us could have been just as great and just as thankful for getting the opportunity to do something increadible. I know hes young, but now, that's usually how you get the chance. Just a note about the getting-up at 4:30am thing. I'm not sure that's the healthiest long-term development plan, unless Roman is getting to bed at 6:30pm-7:00pm at night (which I doubt because THATS when hockey practice & games are normally). If I'm wrong and practices with the team are in the morning; the fact Roman is up that early is offset by him being done earlier in the evening. Either way, I have to say that sleep, rest & recovery is extremely important to a childs' long-term development, not just physical but cognitive and other area as well.

WOW, this kid clearly and easily has the potential to be a generational talent.... I have never seen an 8-year old skate like that.... I mean he's already skating better than some NHL players..... This is really awesome.....Perhaps he will go First Overall in the 2029 NHL draft?? if he continues to develop and grow I don't see why not...... I mean I have seen a lot of videos of talented kids that went on to get drafted that were once thought of as "generational" but this kid is ALREADY a generational talent in my mind with those skills.... I mean he's not dangling or anything - this kid is doing NHL drills at 8 years old and making them look easy..... And like I said his skating is simply amazing for his age - and he's only going to get better over the next 10 years until he's drafted....... So yea, at 8 years old this kid already has "generational talent" stamped on him... And if I was a scout I would be following him closely over the next 10 years and keeping track of his progress..... Because IMO, the sky is the limit for this kid.... He could be easily the next Crosby or even better.....

I played in the GTHL from age 8 while growing up in Toronto. Within there are many childhood prodigies and excellent hockey players. In essence, there are numerous children who are phenomenons when they’re younger, however, it is common to see these kids fade away when their peers mature and increase their game skills. Indeed this kid warrants the term -prodigy and he has a great work ethic, but it will be his ability to maintain his prominence on the ice as he continues to mature. It remains to be seen if he is made from the right stuff as Gretzky, Crosby and others who wore the same label before him. His father is living vicariously through this kid and it appears that he is walking a fine line in whether he is instilling confidence or is he developing a conceited, self centred brat? Can this kid adapt to a team game when he finally plays on the ice with well coached kids with high abilities and high hockey IQ’s?

This kid will probably make it to Junior hockey of some sort but it would be a surprise if he makes it anywhere past that. The fact the kid has this "next Crosby" label will only put a target on his back. From 13 on is when you will start to see if he might and I say might make it farther than Junior.
