      I was just thinking the same. And still no vedios showing it that way which is easier. I've like a dumb a$$ have bought and run the 2x4s batteries thinking it was upgraded to take it since the 8s moniker was put on it. At the factory they tightened a spur screw to tight that broke the screw hole at the bottom and it got in with the gears and stripped all but 5 combined. Took it too the LHS and also noticed it had a crack there all the way through the gear. That let me know it came with bad QC. Now trying to find what is binding somewhere. Thought I got all the teeth out but seems one or a couple stuck around. Trying to find it because the xmaxx will roll backwards and sometimes forward but also at some point it comes to a stop when let off the throttle it will catch and rock. If pushed in reverse will roll but pull it forward and sometimes it catches and all tires stop. I'm dumbfounded. Checked and cleaned rear differential and filled, front differential cleaned and filled and putting better grease on the diffs. Guess in going to have to get to the center diff myself and check if any teeth got in there. Sometimes catches sometimes not. Will drive but dont want to damage anything else.

      Also funny, the grease I use is the same grease my Grandfather used on just about everything and still using the tub he got before he passed in 94. Master Pro high temp disc brake and bearing grease. Have used it on all rcs I have redone the front and rear diffe and it works great. And its red like the one you used.

      I wish I knew at the time to just take off the rear bulkhead! Sorry I don't have a video on that yet. It sounds like your problem is definitely in the center diff! I love the story on the grease! Thats great!

    Welp, looks like there are 2 of us out there that did this job the same way. I was rebuilding a used xmaxx and needed to do more than just repack the center diff, but ended up going about it the same way. I have a CEN Reeper that is a massive pain to get to the front and rear diffs, so i wasn't too worried as i went along.

    Thanks for actually showing us what you did, so many videos skip over things and does not cover everything… You did, thanks! Did have one question, can you take the input shaft gear cover of without removing the bulkhead? It would be the cover that comes off next after removing the kush drive, 4 bolts cover, Like if you wanted to inspect the gear of the center diff that runs off the Kush.

      @craigsrccrc4128  Před 3 lety

      Thanks im glad it helped! Honestly i wouldn't feel good giving you advice on that, i havent taken apart my xmaxx since this video! But from what i know the only way to access the center diff completely is to remove the bulk head but if you just want to inspect the gear i think you can take the small cover plate off of it to get access

    You’ve made it way to hard. You just need to remove the rear bulk head as one assembly. Then you can get at the diff much easier. You definitely learned something. Good luck getting it back together.

    • @craigsrccrc4128
      @craigsrccrc4128  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes I do, I use marine grease just to help with any water that might seep in, but you can use any grease, one of my trucks I just used regular axle grease. The manufacturers usually just put a tiny bit in there so it definitely helps to give them a good amount of grease. If you go so far to pull apart your truck to grease the diffs you might as well pull them out and change the diff fluid, if you need help with that I have a video on my channel about it and it really does help the performance of the truck thanks brother!
