Would recommend taking the main boom all the way out. Check for any cracks - crack test. And double check all hydraulic lines. And lift cables. Because that could be the biggest drama on a job
Check twice. Safe and sound. Gease the cables less chance of rust. 👍

Ron’s rotator is awesome since he has the 1150r which means that the boom can roll toward the back or front. He also has the raptor controller meaning that he uses joysticks to control the boom and it is NOT the same as the control system on this 1150. Murphy’s diesel does have the same control system so it may be better to learn from them and their 1075! Good luck

We have the exact same truck at our Tow company. I noticed during several recoveries. I kept smelling an antifreeze smell. When I would get on the bed next to the stacks, I could smell the antifreeze. So after doing some tests unfortunately, we had to do a complete in frame. The truck drove and ran perfect, but would lose just a little bit of water, just like your case. I should also mention we also had water from the EGR cooler. So we change that first hoping that was the issue. But unfortunately, it had two major issues. I certainly don’t envy you if that’s what it is. But it certainly has exact same symptoms that our truck had. Ron with Stanislaus Towing

That egr cooler looked like mostly moisture which is pretty common. Id block test it to check for combustion gas in the cooling system. You can also test the egr cooler itself. On the lift axle sometimes theyre programed to only drop when the brake is released.

I'm laughing at the repetitive comments 😂 You've the mud flaps from Eastern, they should be helpful for the information you need on the specs. Equipment wise, any distributor will be more than happy to hear from you to fill up your tool boxes. 😂 Pepe's in California is very happy with their Baileys towing Equipment and they're right there in Tennessee.
Speaking as a happily retired Operator, I would caution you to realize that you're a rook in the business. Hire experienced operators for your future business opportunities. Mountains weren't built in days, it takes years. Always Keep your head on a swivel and please be aware that there have already been 9 operators killed by those who don't pay attention and don't Slow down and Move over.

Those are federal signal led lights they just rotate u need to have the lenses wet sanded. Those lights are great lights definitely keep them. Also my lift axle on my truck only comes down when the parking break is pushed in it goes up when you put the parking brake on or put it in reverse. Also the crane has to be certified yearly. I have a knuckle boom on my truck and I have my knuckle boom cert. which is good for 5 years. Also my boom gets certified yearly. And they do a total service on it every year also.

Ive seen moisture in the egr systems many times, its not always coolant. Also your vgt is cycling because the sensors aren't getting a good reading. Before you drop money on an egr cooler, id tell you to try something much cheaper. Clean as much moisture out of there as possible, and then clean any sensors that could be affected by the moisture. Specifically the egr temp sensor, egt sensor, egr differential pressure sensor, egr orifice, and map sensor. Once you do that, the vgt will stop cycling like that. Then you could also run the truck for a bit more and re check to see if it is indeed the cooler

When you showed this truck in the first video where you collected it and said you smelt coolant I knew it had issues as I used to own a radiator repair shop plus i know a lot about about Cat and Cummins engines.
Blown head gasket not good but do get the top tank taken off the radiator also and cleaned out the tubes.
Replace the coolant after the engine repair with enough antifreeze to make it 60% anti freeze anti boil. It will very soon be at 50% within a day.
If its got a Horton Fan clutch make sure its working properly, also check that the temp sender is showing the correct temp in the cabin, buy a coolant temp gauge to check by inserting it in the recovery bottle after the engine has been running for at least an hour.
Also ensure you replace the thermostat NO MATTER WHAT anyone tells you.
It quite often takes a few cycles to get the new thermostat to work correctly.
To get the temperature up to working temperature blank off the front of the radiator to close airflow, you can use a large piece of cardboard.

Then you may realise that some things are needed and many things are just Wants to really required.
It worries me that the rig hasn't earnt a dime yet but you are spending its potential earnings before you even get them .
I think that you are in for a shock at wrecker school, and i would think that Miller has a serious maintenance schedule that needs to be followed.
Murphy's Diesel,Rick is a guy who would tell you straight up about the no glory parts of Wrecker Business.
Ron is too nice to be objective if he thought that you are going in unprepared, but given time he probably could teach the industry hopefuls.

You should look for Swedish extra lights and work lights. Even the orange warning light we have here are nice

hey bruce not sure how many comments you actually look thru but i have the whole shebang of the EGR systems and the factory turbi that came off of one of my trucks we had for other reasons of course but the factory turbo is about 7,000 dollars back a year or 2 ago... not sure if the orices have went down on parts or anything but i can put my hands on everything and can possibly make you a good deal on them i know its used stuff but there was nothing wrong with the parts we took off we had other issues come about... if you would like pictures or to know what we have just as spares incase something happens maybe we can get in contact with each other and figure something out i live in alabama so possibly just a couple hours away if you are intersted but like i said not sure how often you look at comments or anything.... nice looking wrecker hope everything works out on your new journey with the recovery thing

I had a 2016 just like that it was a 1150R (Roller) it weighed 72.600. It that 23k on a 20k steer riding with the pusher up. It’s a steerable pusher so I ran it all the time and I could get the steer to 18. Yes tell Robert it’s what they call a Solo Clutch

I run the pdi coolers also the pipe and hoses going into the heater core always leak. There is a procedure for greasing the boom, miller has some CZcams videos. John Hawkins is the man at miller that knows everything about there rotators.

As far as I know there is no required crane certification for actual towing uses, If you were to go work on a jobsite with it to assist lifting hvac units or something like that then you may very well be required to abide by a lot of crane regulations through osha.
As for the drop axle, i presume there is an air solenoid somewhere that controls air flow to the bags, You need to trace power back to that switch first and make sure it's actually getting power as regardless of how the lift axle actuates if the switch isnt receiving power it isn't going to work, trace that to the source and get power to the switch then work from there.

The 22 T880 with the x15 I drive was eating coolant like crazy and a new EGR (so far) fixed it. It was at 130k miles. Sitting at 161k currently. Several of our T880 with the same motor have all had to get EGRs to fix the coolant eating issue. Not saying that’s what happening to yalls but just something we’ve been through with that motor.

The uneven wear on tires, are most likely related to bad shocks. Had the same way on a front axle where I got a new shocks and new tires and had no similar issues since

The lift axle should come down with the brakes off. The switch should just keep it from dropping when releasing the brakes I believe. But the tater where I work the drop axle is set to the parking brakes and raises when in reverse.

Check to see if there is a switch to raise the lift axle automatically when you switch into reverse. It could be a short in the switch or wiring.
