It seems that everyone hears something different. My first impression was that the ES2 produced a warmer tone, but lacked the clarity of the ES1. To each his own.
Im betting since its a more expensive guitar and the recording is a combo of the guitar’s actual sound and the pickup rather that only the sound of the pickup itself.

ES1 seemed to have a more richer and mellow sound. The ES2 sounded more like somebody beating on top of a trashcan with a stick
of course, its from a more expensive guitar, so the tonewoods would definitely affect the tone of the pickups
