- Richard Hammond + Izzy Hammond. TV Presenter + Graduate. Father + Daughter.
Richard Hammond has been a partner in British TV’s most successful and at times controversial presentation team for more than 20 years. Alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May he’s shaped how we think about our cars and their place in our lives. Along with, The Grand Tour, he’s now got his own reality TV show, running a car restoration business.
Joining Richard is his daughter, Izzy. Recently graduated from university, Izzy is an ensemble cast member on the show and is busy working out whether to follow dad, full time, into the TV business.
Together, they work through the parenting compromises that Richard was forced to make as a young journalist, why good luck must be paid back to the cosmos with hard graft and whether the world is ready for a Clarkson/Hammond/May hybrid.
The new series of Richard Hammond's Workshop, is available to stream on discovery+.
This four way conversation was recorded on 11th September 2023.

Why letting the camera in worked for Richard Hammond | Performance People - Sport
I'm not big on meeting famous people as I really don't care that they are famous, they have a job they're paid to do, and they do it... *HOWEVER* , I would love to sit and have a conversation over a beer with Hammond. He seems genuine and kind.
They put their pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of us!
aaah, he almost cried when Izzy recalled being a little girl and talking on the phone with him. It must be a huge sacrifice to work in that way
Interviews like this makes me forget all the conflict in the world. Thank you Ben & Georgie
I had the pleasure of recently meeting and briefly chatting to Richard at an event at the smallest cog. He was a fairly quiet, unassuming guy. He was interested in the cars we had brought and chatted about them like any car fan. But when it came to him picking up a megaphone to speak on camera for the Drivetribe video being made that day, he turned in to Richard Hammond off the TV.
I’d love to meet Richard, he’s what I call a class act. So likeable..
Lol Izzy sold you down the river.. 😂
No seriously I can feel how much his family means to him..
Richard deserves everything he’s done and has, he doesn’t boast about anything he has achieved or brought…
Top Man. You always made me laugh through Top Gear.
Hey Richard, don’t pressure yourself, sometimes you have to sacrifice yourself and miss out on certain things, that are extremely important to you, and you own that.
However Richard, there’s many fathers that haven’t done 10% of what you have and do.
Anyone can see that you absolutely adore your family, and I absolutely love the connection you have with your girls, and lovely wife..
Wish you all the best for the future.
Failure is not in your vocabulary..
Stay Blessed ❤️✌🏼
We have watched the trio for ever. We have met the dudes as well.
To hear Richard say that about himself , really does tell you he is a genuine as they get.
Especially being a part of the Trio team that was , then was again, and will always be one of the best TV shows to have ever been on tv.
Top Gear
then
The Grand Tour
Even now, Richard's shows are in a class of there own.
There will never be another team like Richard, May and the Orangutan.
Sir Jeremy is much more important than the boring sod that cant drive fast. Give him the respect he deserves.
@@majortom4543 what? I did respect the ape. I called him an orangutan. How much more can I give?
Is that you Hammond? HAMMOND!
@majortom4543 Don't call someone a boring sod and then lecture about giving due respect in the same breath. Hypocrite
@@unfurling3129 Found James may's personal polisher.
I very much enjoyed that interview with Richard and Izzy Hammond the father and daughter bond they have is so great 😀 Izzy is a breath of fresh air she is so lovely I wish her the best of luck for her future career ❤️❤️❤️
Is just absolutely incredible, Richard is so genuine and authentic, whenever is asked a question he keeps going and explaining beautiful and deep insights, he is such amazing role model and humble man.
Great interview..... Gravy and ketchup?.....are you kidding me????😂😂😂
I think cars have their own personality
Because you see wood and metal take on the personality and creativity of it's maker who is taking his passion and building a car that only he or she could see in his or her mind.
Then transferring that to paper then to the metal and becoming a work of art that we not only can appreciate, but use daily to drive around and perform our own version of creative life.
I can whole heartedly 100% say that I bonded with my son from birth through top gear as soon as he was home from hospital after being born he was religiously sat on my knee every week to watch top gear by the time he was four he could walk down the street holding my hand and name all the cars on the street and I'm being serious about that we had so many good times watching top gear so I have the lads to thank for that so thank you Richard , Jeremy and James :-) :-)
A great interview really enjoyed that now 👍👍
It's because your the best 3 guys that have ever been on TV ❤
Ooo.. the show needs to get outside of UK. Europe is starving. Been waiting for smallest cog for ages now. Really great to see the family duo on screen together :)
Good interview!
I envy Hammond and Izzys relationship.
Loved this.
Izzy & The Hamster
so wholesome i could burst. great way to spend 41 minutes 😁
So true, getting a chance through some kind of contact puts on extra pressure to do even better to prove your worth. My son recently got the chance to do something in the field he loves. Thought it might be a once off as he was pointed in the right direction. However now working on his own merits.
So many nepo kids out there and Izzy is no exception, but I can't bring myself to dislike her. At least she's more engaging than Brooklyn Beckham.
She has grown up with a dad that has done the graft in the media business, firstly as a presenter on radio, then hit it off with Top Gear, and now Grand Tour, plus the various videos on CZcams and the other businesses. So yes if She gets into the media using her father’s name , it just the foot in the door, and everything else is up to her . Yes they are so correct, do something you enjoy to put things in perspective or just to clear your mind. For me it is riding my bicycle, I do it for about 2 hours and in that time nothing else matters.
This was a nice interview, but Hammond wants to think about how he and his family are portraying themselves in the 'Workshop' series- 'Millionaire Daddy, I NEED a car and I want it NOW!!!' Strop, strop, flounce. They are clearly better people than that.
The jet car may have caused brain damage, but Richard is still scarily intelligent. That doesn't always come across in the t.v work. Amazing chap.
Some years ago a former TG insider posted on Reddit about their work and mentioned that Richard had actually become a better person, easier to work with after the accident. Apparently he was an arrogant little tit before life gave him a big lesson in perspective and priorities. Aside from some minor short term memory lapses and a previously undiscovered liking for celery, it hasn't done any damage per se, which is pretty remarkable for a 288mph frontal cranial impact...
In a commentary for the Vietnam special, Andy Wilman mentioned the books in his travel bag. He said they usually had a penguin on them, which implied a level of high intelligence.
@@soulcornflake1 penguin did all the classics. It was a cheap way of discovering Dickens etc when I was only getting 50p pocket money. My favourites were the Ladybird series of books. The artwork was fantastic.
I just keep on loving Izzy. If she doesn't make/get a presenter career, I'm disappointed. Her attitude, capability to perform and (watch Drivetribe) natural skills of driving cars?
We need the next generation.
EDIT: we needed TG to get all three to present their own. Their personal shows are better that TG/TGT.
Great interview. Thanks guys
I can relate to this two. Me and my 15 year old daughter are both a huge petrolheads and we love spending time together in the garage working on my bikes and cars. Im like having a boy not a girl 😊
My daughter and I*
You saw genuine sorrow in Richards face when the presenter asked izzy was your always joining in at school and with other activities with friends and Richard sat back and shuck his head no and you could literally feel his pain because he's missed so much of his daughters early years but he can be proud that he's worked his socks off and provided his daughters with opportunities most people only dream off and afforded them with the chance to do what they actually want to do where as most people do jobs they hate and lives lived from one paycheck to the next so they have been spared that life by their dad's hard work and you can see he genuinely loves his daughters to bits so well done Richard
Some fantastic advice from Richard and Izzy at the end! Loved richards idea - Izzy, you laugh but I think you secretly know it makes sense? Loved izzysideatoo - really good. I’m going to use both myself - and use them at work with clients!
Not sure what’s more beautiful, Izzie or the Ducati 916 in the background hahaha great vid
Wouldnt it be awesome if James, Jeremy and Hammond as well as family make cameo appearances on each others shows?
Yes, yes and yes!!!
I think Clarkson and Rich's daughter shoudl come together to test cars
What would James bring his cat? 😭
Smart/wise to take the opportunities to help you along in life. IF you can. Some people have the opportunities and reject them and struggle and some make it on their own, some don't. And they find personal pride in what they do or don't do on their own. And they put they nose up in the air about those that accept the opportunities that come their way. I respect both walks of life fine and dandy. I don't find it fine and dandy for those that work extra hard and or make it extra hard on themselves to put down those that seem to have it easier. Because those people most certainly as Richard has said, work just as hard to prove to themselves and everyone else, look, I got the chance, I am making it happen with hard work! I am not a sheltered rich brat that sip tea all day and goes out for drives in a posh car to break up the boredom. It's hard work! And we don't take it for granted. So, Izzy is very wise to accept the opportunities that present themselves. Richards work ethics are an excellent role model for her. (and everyone) Much respect for that segment.
Hammond is so great…
(but that print is pulling focus)
Izzy: Here chicken!
Chicken: Woof! woof!
awesome
So many people have said and continue to say that his workshop is “not a real business” or “it’s just for TV” and I just don’t get it. It’s a real business and if it wasn’t it wouldn’t be worth filming. He’s put so much into it that it wouldn’t make sense for it not to be a real business
❤
She would get it
.. i love the hamster .. hahah
Mark Gungor explains this in his tale of two brains. Men compartmentalise things like Richard says.
The Americas cup is a long event. That has to be tough being away although at least the upcoming event is closer.
Richard Hammond is even loved in America.
I'd love to know how many times Izzy has been asked "are you Richard Hammond's daughter"
Must get annoying after a while 😂
Richard, not that you will read THIS, because YOU WERE AWAY SO MUCH AS YOU PUT IT, THAT allowed YOUR FAMILY TO HAVE THE LIFE THEY HAVE AND THE EXPENSIVE EDUCATION THEY GOT AND ALL THE PERKS SUCH AS AN AMAZING HOME AND MATERIAL THINGS, SUCH AS ANY CAR DADDY WOULD ALLOW THEM TO HAVE. they SHOULD BE GRATEFUL.
All the money in the world will not make up for missed time spent with family.
Imagine thinking teaching your kids not to swear is ‘letting them be themselves’ whilst discipling them in dozens of other ways from ‘expressing themselves’ 🙄🙄🙄
The working hard to earn the luck is a very interesting take.
Richard mate ur more than a presenter... you and the other 2 are fuckin stars!!!!
Hammond's face when Izzy is describing the phone calls. I know that Dad feeling, it sucks.
I put this on, Thinking this would help me sleep,
However, I ended up thinking more about how this would help me be more awake.
him should become Dad we trust he is your dad young lady
I used to love Top gear, my highlight of the week. 3 different perspectives and Clarkson overruling Hammonds blatant cynical peevishness , May's diabolical interest in mechanical appreciation and dire subverted "so this is the place we're in" "dogs cop" let me get my mind around this new kind of alcohol and incredible landscape, how the f#ck do people live here and is that a volcano just there? It all balanced out to that's what cars are for, to get you out of trouble, to provide a solution to the mess you've found yourself in. Whether Amazon, Chillian< bolivian highlands, Amazonian sweatfest or African safarilands, or maybe it was cold and an adorable speed queen had a nice ass, mini's with rockets, cutting edge "cocking about" and sulphurous rich feminist gas pedal to the floor tighten your ring Neubourg stints. So on the back of that little crowd warming you want to add more to it, so best wishess in doing that !
What about Car Sos ?
What was the other presenter there for. She never let him open his mouth. Each of her questions were 5 minutes long. It was all about her. Poor guy.
He's the Olympic yachtsman Sir Ben Ainslie and he's dull as fook, he has no personality and nothing to say, like most sportsmen...
I have no doubt Izzy has a bright career in front of her she really good on TV
Good interview, that being said... saying in the first 20 seconds there on the small screen is kind of throwing the talent under the bus 20k sub channel! ..just saying ;)
The effect his career has had may be missing some moments but they don't live in a 2.5 bedroom terrace either. It's a trade off and I'm sure the family don't complain too much.
I can easily see
izzy as a dr. Who companion.
Of all the Potterverse namesakes, he went with BELLATRIX LESTRANGE?! Were Voldemort and Aragog taken already??
I’ve never seen her. What am I missing? Smallest cog
The odd trio that produces such nifty nonsens around cars ( and everything else) can ONLY be British, and I'm
sure that Jacques Tati would be very proud of them.
How.old is izzy? What a mature and well rounded young lady
End of uni age I think - like 21/22/23 ?
lol my former wifes sister had a cat called ‘’motorbike’’ …lol
Izzy is a cutie..she must look like her mom
Georgie looks like Kate Middleton but with blond hair
Odd to see an erotic picture on the wall of the motorbike / family room…
idk, more odd than a $20,000 motorbike next to the couch?
No matter how hard one works, you will end up soiling yourself and requiring care to wipe yourself clean…..just like the lazy individual who has never worked a day. Futility is the meaning of life. All this work ethic talk is a distraction from the futility truth. Bless the middle classes and their life panic they so desperately fiercely try and suppress.
I have watched every episode of Richard Hammond’s Workshop and I have seen nothing of “performance” about his daughters. All of them are spoilt whiners. Demanding a new this and that. The show is great, the issue with series three is Discovery+ who have ruined it with adverts every seven minutes and it’s a paid platform. Ruining the programme entirely.
These young ones, they just can't get though a sentence without the word 'like' where it doesn't belong (several times, at least)
like is used in this genration more like someone would say "Uhm" while thinking of the answer to what they were asked, though that being said it still does my fucking head even when i do it haha
Indeed. ‘Like’, ‘super’, ‘literally’, starting sentences with ‘So…’ and just talking using phrases they’ve seen on social media such as ‘You got this’, ‘You’ll smash it’ etc.
actually its pretty normal, you just arent aware of it after awhile. i'm a bit of a linguist, side part of my job, plus i was forced to take a speech class and removing "likes and Umms" was part of it. And happened again when i took professional public speaking. that was 40+ years ago so not real new.
Yes, very irritating.
What are those kids names... !! There not names for human beings!
Izzy and Willow. Pretty normal names.
Women can never truly understand the sacrifices men make for them. They will make him feel guilty for not being at home even though he provided millions of dollars for his family, a wonderful home and opportunities that many people can only dream of.
Of course he'd rather be with his kids for special occasions, but he also wants his kids to be able to eat.
Women initiate divorce 80% of the time, but if the husband makes a lot of money, the rate drops MASSIVELY!
He knows that if he doesn't provide, he could be divorced and without his kids entirely.
Plus he was able to effectively retire early, and be more available.
What was your point? Not being a smart ass. What s your point?
Balderdash. Men frequently have no understanding of just how much labour women put into their lives, relationships and families - much of it unpaid. Mindy had a HELL of a time keeping the mortgage paid, raising two young daughters and nursing a brain damaged husband after his big off at Elvington.
Yet in the workshop show, he still does dumb stunts/ skits and fakes drama.
Particulates from tyre wear are completely overlooked…. Ulez doesn’t address that problem. Follow Paris remove unnecessary behemoths in inner cities should be banned
Is that big assssss
I didn't see Jeremy in the video
His daughter comes across on that show as a really spoilt brat ...
Probably because it's a TV show, and they're acting..
Oh dear he thinks the CO2 issue is real.................how disappointing.
Only morons deny it.
Izzy needs to do Only Fans no arguing
God no. She's wealthy and educated, she can do anything she wants.
@@c3vzn but still riding her father's coat-tails and demanding he pay for stuff, which is no more dignified than the above suggestion.
