  • Richard Hammond + Izzy Hammond. TV Presenter + Graduate. Father + Daughter.
Richard Hammond has been a partner in British TV’s most successful and at times controversial presentation team for more than 20 years. Alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May he’s shaped how we think about our cars and their place in our lives. Along with, The Grand Tour, he’s now got his own reality TV show, running a car restoration business.
Joining Richard is his daughter, Izzy. Recently graduated from university, Izzy is an ensemble cast member on the show and is busy working out whether to follow dad, full time, into the TV business.
Together, they work through the parenting compromises that Richard was forced to make as a young journalist, why good luck must be paid back to the cosmos with hard graft and whether the world is ready for a Clarkson/Hammond/May hybrid.
The new series of Richard Hammond's Workshop, is available to stream on discovery+.
This four way conversation was recorded on 11th September 2023.

I had the pleasure of recently meeting and briefly chatting to Richard at an event at the smallest cog. He was a fairly quiet, unassuming guy. He was interested in the cars we had brought and chatted about them like any car fan. But when it came to him picking up a megaphone to speak on camera for the Drivetribe video being made that day, he turned in to Richard Hammond off the TV.

I’d love to meet Richard, he’s what I call a class act. So likeable..
Lol Izzy sold you down the river.. 😂
No seriously I can feel how much his family means to him..
Richard deserves everything he’s done and has, he doesn’t boast about anything he has achieved or brought…
Top Man. You always made me laugh through Top Gear.
Hey Richard, don’t pressure yourself, sometimes you have to sacrifice yourself and miss out on certain things, that are extremely important to you, and you own that.
However Richard, there’s many fathers that haven’t done 10% of what you have and do.
Anyone can see that you absolutely adore your family, and I absolutely love the connection you have with your girls, and lovely wife..
Wish you all the best for the future.

I think cars have their own personality
Because you see wood and metal take on the personality and creativity of it's maker who is taking his passion and building a car that only he or she could see in his or her mind.
Then transferring that to paper then to the metal and becoming a work of art that we not only can appreciate, but use daily to drive around and perform our own version of creative life.

So yes if She gets into the media using her father’s name , it just the foot in the door, and everything else is up to her . Yes they are so correct, do something you enjoy to put things in perspective or just to clear your mind. Some years ago a former TG insider posted on Reddit about their work and mentioned that Richard had actually become a better person, easier to work with after the accident. Apparently he was an arrogant little tit before life gave him a big lesson in perspective and priorities. Aside from some minor short term memory lapses and a previously undiscovered liking for celery, it hasn't done any damage per se, which is pretty remarkable for a 288mph frontal cranial impact...

You saw genuine sorrow in Richards face when the presenter asked izzy was your always joining in at school and with other activities with friends and Richard sat back and shuck his head no and you could literally feel his pain because he's missed so much of his daughters early years but he can be proud that he's worked his socks off and provided his daughters with opportunities most people only dream off and afforded them with the chance to do what they actually want to do where as most people do jobs they hate and lives lived from one paycheck to the next so they have been spared that life by their dad's hard work and you can see he genuinely loves his daughters to bits so well done Richard

Smart/wise to take the opportunities to help you along in life. IF you can. Some people have the opportunities and reject them and struggle and some make it on their own, some don't. And they find personal pride in what they do or don't do on their own. And they put they nose up in the air about those that accept the opportunities that come their way. I respect both walks of life fine and dandy. I don't find it fine and dandy for those that work extra hard and or make it extra hard on themselves to put down those that seem to have it easier. Because those people most certainly as Richard has said, work just as hard to prove to themselves and everyone else, look, I got the chance, I am making it happen with hard work! I am not a sheltered rich brat that sip tea all day and goes out for drives in a posh car to break up the boredom. It's hard work! And we don't take it for granted. So, Izzy is very wise to accept the opportunities that present themselves. Richards work ethics are an excellent role model for her. (and everyone) Much respect for that segment.
