  • In this video, Deborah Gilbert discusses both sides of the coin to help you figure out if art fairs are for you, and if they are, how to make them work for you.
Some of the topics Deborah will discuss:
-How to determine if Art Fairs are the right venues for you and your work.
-How to find the shows, and how to determine if they are “good“ shows for you.
-How to apply effectively (the best shows are highly competitive, often getting ten times as many applicants as they have spots).
-How to present your work, and how to create a display.
-Effective sales techniques & marketing strategies for your work for these venues - How to be prepared for anything a show might throw at you.
-How to handle the media and promote your work
Being a responsible representative of the photography community.

I am 58 years old and rediscovered painting after a graphic design career and raising kids. I was just accepted into my very first show--a juried one, one of the biggest in the US. I have absolutely no booth equipment or display supplies at all. To say I am nervous is an understatement! This presentation was tremendously helpful. Thank you!

Lots of great info! I have been doing these for a few years and there's definitely a learning curve. This video is a great start. Love the hula hoop/swim noodle tip...will use that for sure!

Deborah , how can you have so much energy. You have been non stop for over 1 hour and 50 minutes. Great information, great presentation. I now will appreciate all the work that the artists has done to set up these booths. You have done a first for me. I have never watched a video that was 1 hour and 51 minutes long. My limit is usually 10 to 30 minutes. You are doing something right to keep the information flowing. Thanks for the information. Have a great day.

Mom must be pretty mad about that unopened Beatles white album you sold. Loved this presentation! Tutorials about photography business are so important. Many thanks for this one.

Deborah, thank you for a great presentation. It was extremely helpful and went into detail in a lot of areas I've had questions about. I do have a few questions that were not covered in the presentation. Can you give some guidance on the number of different photographs to have on hand, what is a good range of sizes to carry and how many of each size to stock? I know everything will/can be different (limited editions vs open, size of the venue, etc.) but some starting guidance from your experience would prove helpful to people like me who haven't done an Art Festival before and doesn't want to spend a fortune printing a ton of photographs.

Hi, How many pictures is something you have to feel your way through over time, because there is no way to know whether an image is going to be a hit until you get out there. That's another reason to start with smaller shows. With my work, I have matted prints in three different sizes, and then my framed pieces are larger. Thanks, Deborah
