What makes it even worse is that, while he was a Britannian prince, he had no claim to the throne. He renounced his claim to the throne shortly after Marianne was murdered, and was summarily sent to Japan alongside Nunnally as a diplomatic tool. He had nothing to gain from starting a rebellion with Britannia. Lelouch's only mistake was not being honest with his core members about his identity. The public at large? Yeah, they don't need to know who he is. The ones closest to him though? It probably would have helped for them to know that the one leading them was a former Britannian Prince who hated his own country more than they did.

That's what I was just thinking! I guess it makes some sense, though--his immediate subordinates seem to be extremely sheeplike when it comes to following the directions of a powerful leader. He didn't exactly use them when fighting Clovis because of their value so much as their availability--and it seems like the only one with a scrap of real loyalty among them is Kallen, who tried to stand up for him then anyways. That whole accusation scene probably could have gone better if Lelouch had actually tried to turn them back to his side, at any rate--but hey, I guess when your soldiers betray you for their worst enemy based on accusations of him having magical brainwashing powers, you're entitled to despair of the whole thing.

The reason why the black knights betrayed zero was not because of his geass or being a prince, it was because they learned he used geass on Euphemia Li Britannia to tell her to kill all the japanese at the special zone. Lelouch likely knew that someone would react to C.C. being under the mask. That is likely why Kallen was part of the group that Zero sent when planning on meeting Taizō Kirihara.
Note the confusion from the Kyōto House members. We have Taizō asking if C.C. is not Zero, and which leads to her chance to publicly state Taizō's name to everyone present. This given Lelouch vital information if he did not have it. The reaction from the guards to C.C.'s statement causes them to focus their weapons on her, causing them to not be able to react to Lelouch's surprise attack.

The Shinkiro is made like that because it's systems are immensely complicated on a technical level. Today I work as a private investigator because I was inspired by L. I LOVE Death Note ok. However there comes a time when every head must bow and Code Geass is that series. Its nothing short of a masterpiece from beginning to end. If Death Note kept up the pace of the L arc it possibly would have been on par with Code Geass but as things turned out No. And I have never seen Steins; Gate.

I like it that you are that amazed by Code Geass, that's cool. :))
FMA BH also in some ways has God himself as one of the most important characters, the show's like Code Geass with action but also with intelligence. However, there's a lack of these "dammm dammm dammm" twists, as this is an attribute of DN and Code Geass and wouldn't fit in that sci-fi fantasy storyline.

It would matter to a lot of people, actually. More than a few of the Japanese, upon finding out that Zero is a Britannian, would start to assume that his actions were part of a greater Britannian conspiracy OR that he was just trying to carve out his own empire and wouldn't be any different from the current invaders once his power was consolidated. I'm speaking from a meta perspective. To create drama and tension, the writers contrive reasons for everyone to want to see Zero's face because of the reasons you gave.
But the problem with that level of plot contrivance, is if you use it to hard, you end up with my issue.
It wouldn't be hard to use the elements at play to more naturally come up with reasons to unmask him. Like the Britannians could intentionally be seeding rumors about Zero's identity as Britannian, unknowingly being correct. Create some tension as well making him admitting to not being Japanese have some more stake to it.

@BlackDeathViral03 I doubt the school would be in much danger. The Ashfords are pretty influential, and with Nunnally, a crown princess, being there, most military factions/noble houses would think thrice about doing anything to that school. Plus, Charles would probably recognize that, while the Ashfords sheltered the children of Marianne, they would probably be severely out of the loop as far as Lelouch's "extracurricular activities". Plus, there is a risk that the Pure Bloods would turn on Britannia immediately, given Lord Jeremiah's loyalty to Marianne.

Honestly, if they were really paying attention here it would be possible to work out Zero's identity. The criteria given in this scene is quite narrow.
    - Male
    - Not Japanese, so Brittanian
    - Important enough that the guy rescued him, indicates nobility and a strong connection to the Japanese, suggesting he spent a lot of time with them before the fall
    - Was young during the fall of Japan (reference to him being a 'seed' implies growing up)
    - Has a very strong vendetta against Brittania
    - Face must remain hidden. Implies that if his identity were known, it could change the course of the war, making him very important
    - The guy promises support because he knows who Zero is, and will give them anything they want.
This all indicates a Prince of Brittania, who would be a maximum of 23 at present assuming the the term 'seed' refers to a young child younger than 15, who was already in Japan and presumed dead (to allow for the fact that there was no attempt for revenge/defiance in the interim), and was estranged from the Emperor (as signified by his hatred and the fact that he was able to be hidden with a family without the Emperor bothering to find him. Although as Nunnally was lower than the 70th heir to the throne, we can assume that there are a lot of heirs, but there can't be too many who fit all of the criteria, other than the missing Prince Lelouch.

Most of you may not know this, but the second season of code geass, was not what the original writers had intended, originally it was supposed to have a female zero impostor, lelouch having to try to regain leadership of the black knights and multiple other things. The reason i bring this up is i think the scene where the black knights betray Zero, was a major part of the ORIGINAL ideas for the second season.
If you think about it, it makes a lot more sense then, what happens in that scene i ask you? A Britannian prince tells the black knights that Zero has been lying to them and using them for their own gains and that they are not who they think they are.
Taking this into consideration, the whole betrayal scene, was possibly supposed to be a moment of triumph for Lelouch where he truly regains leadership of the black knights, out maneuvers the fake Zero and exposes them for the liar and fraud they are. Just wanted to throw in these two cents, stuff like this has happend in the past. Where writers or creators have a set story in mind, but the producers say it has to be changed.
And so they have to alter their story, but try to keep parts of the original ideas and story inside it.

Judging by the fact that Lelouch is/was a chess master, and almost unbeatable in this game, Lelouch wins but if you are looking for a battle of wits, then the order is this L-10, Light-9.9 Lelouch-8,Near-8, Mellow 7.8

Honestly surprised Kallen didn't recognise his voice when it was clear Lelouch had his mask off.
