Hi Lucie, Over fifty years ago I was an English girl new to Sri Lanka too, getting used to a new country, met a fantastic family there who became actual family for me, and learned to cook not from my partner but his mum who taught me to speak Sinhala too, so this really brought back some great memories. I don’t think I ever learned to husk a coconut, though I did a lot of other things, like pounding and using a grind stone, and winnowing rice. And learned to make dozens of curries and breakfast foods too…. Still love rice and curry! Am impressed that you cook on an open fire, they scared the life out of me! My lovely teacher was brilliant with them. Maybe you could get your partner to rig your coconut scraper onto a table top, it’s hard to do things at floor level if you didn’t do it that way as a child. The thought of pols curry made my mouth water! All the best to both.
😍😍😍
loce your. Comment
It’s so great to see both of you getting better and better speaking each other’s language. So beautiful! The food looks really really good!
Hi Lucie, try putting oil into you pot first, heat a little then add chopped onion, fry till translucent and just turning a little golden in color, then add your spices then your jackfruit. It's a method for most curries. Will be tastier because you've braized your onions first - adds loads of flavor.
Really agree with Angie
Yes Angie is correct 😍

For a good polos curry, it needs long simmering. The final product is dark (due to roasted curry powder and goraka); inside of the melted polos is pinkish brown. The taste is unbeliveable.

Lahiru is definitely kind of treasure on behalf of Lucie! He is keen on everything. As a nature lover, Lucie is so lucky to have Lahiru.wish you both all the time to have a bright time !good luck buddies !❤️❤️❤️
According to the srilankan's all young srilankan women must know how to cook but I still don't know how to cook and sometimes l feel really embarrassed because of that . But by seeing you , I inspired a lot. Thanks a lot LUSY ❤
We call "Karapincha" not puncha 😋 Luciee youve achieved a big progress in sinhala speaking💖🔥 you're cute
Down south people, call it karapuncha ❤
both...
Regional dialect , pincha & puncha, both are correct !
😌😌😌😌😌🙄
Samahara pathi wala kara puncha kiyala kiyanawa. 🤔😌😌🙄🙄🌹🌼
You will be a very competent cook for SriLankan meals very soon Lucie. I still do not know how to husk a coconut. So you’ve achieved so much within such short span! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I usually add spinach to my dhal curry after it’s cooked. Once the dhal is made, and the fire is off, I add the spinach and cover the pan with the lid.
That way the spinach retains its goodness better than being cooked as a curry. I’m sure your curry may have been delicious too.
Looking forward to next week’s episode.
Take care you two!
I'm mouth watering🤤🤤🤭. Lucie is trying a lot Sinhala words now. So happy to hear. And tried some difficult tasks on her own🤪🤪. Love you lucie and lahiru😍❤❤
Love watching you cook, everything looked amazing! Also how you put in the effort to learn so many new things is really inspiring!
You are such an inspiration! I love watching your videos and can’t wait for the next one! Incredible what you and Lahiru are doing with that house!!
Well done guys , I feel hungry now and the house looks gorgeous . God bless till next time 🥰.
Lucie your positive vibes are amazing. All the best to you guys. ♥️
You can cook lentills and spinach together too. And a little older jack fruit is good cooked with coconut milk and its yummy.
I wonder how this lady managed herself for the lack of facilities and spread happiness always..my husband is also a foreigner. although he loves srilanka lot, he can't stay here 3months without moving back or traveling overseas. really appreciate you are such a wonderful person. love to see more and more your great videos.
Hi lucie, I’m a Sinhalese born and bred in Singapore and I am thoroughly impressed by the way you’ve embraced the Sinhalese culture and way of life. So lovely to see. You seem to have learnt more of the language than I have! It’s amazing that you have attempted to cook a few Sri Lankan dishes (some of which I have not heard of nor even tried).Thank you for being so authentic and sharing your life with us! You and Lahiri are a very unique couple. Your channel is entertaining and it showcases how you guys navigate several challenges and yet always wear a smile. Thanks for keeping it real.
I get so excited for your videos, I can't wait to see everything fall in place perfectly.
The colour of that dhal curry..ohh!! On point!! Looks yummy from even thru the lenses..Amazing work done guys..looking forward to seeing alot more food episodes from u both.. 💯😍
You should do more of this cooking videos! Its lovely 🤍
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Please bring another cooking video. It's so homely and genuine
Baby jack fruits are called polos, mature fruit is called herali and the sweet ripe fruit is called varaka if it is the some-what stiff variety or vala if it is the soggy variety. Both are very sweet when ripe, starcy and grainy when boiled when mature, soft grainy and tender when cooked very young. Delicious at all stages and the mature seeds taste like chestnuts. When roasted or cooled.
All your dishes look delicious. Appreciate you for cooking them😍
Absolutely loved your video. Lucie, I am so impressed by your determination to husk the coconut & you did it!! So natural!! Food looks delicious though very little ingredients went into them. Cheers 👏

Looking at you go at coconut. I do not regret getting canned coconut milk. I know they are not as good. But I got stuck with scraping coconut all the time growing up and I always hated it 🤣.
You did an amazing job capturing and sharing your experiences with us. Your hard work and dedication truly shine through in every video. ❤❤ Best of luck!
What I like is when ever you are outside all those bird calls...seems like paradise
It's a pleasure to watch your videos as always. I am glad that you are learning how to cook different dishes. It's quite an adventure for you. Keep rocking 😊👍

That meal looks so delicious. Great cooking job!
May all happiness come towards you both.triple gems blesses you.
Honestly you two are the best, I love watching your videos ❤
Cut the two edges of the coconut away, then cut some marks, on the coconut. Then the cover gets loosened and becomes easy to husk it.
'Karapuncha' just made my day. Love your videos Lucie!! Lots of love❤
That was a lot of hard work to crack open the coconuts and to make the coconut milk instead of just buying cans at a supermarket but I guess it tastes better and it is free off your own land which is amazing. The food looked awesome. Made me hungry 😛
Its very common in srilanka and it tastes awesome
You guys are awesome , you are so funny lucie when you said I don't want to do this, good luck to you both, God bless you.
This is absolutely Brilliant. I started salivating after seeing the Polos curry.
Waw.... what a supportive couple. Would love to see you make more sri lankan dishes in the future. Try milk rice next time. love you guys.😘
Yum how good is kiribath with jaggery or vegan seeni sambol 🤤
It’s great to see that you are both having some fun. Renovating a house can feel like a lot of pressure so I’m pleased this video went well. I’m really feeling for Sri Lankan’s at the moment with all of the economic turmoil. I hope it improves soon!
Hi Lucy
The videos are so excellent
Lucy
You are doing a great role in srilanka.
I m so honestly happy about your present life style there.
Cheers I m a srilankan by nationality currently working in London
All the Best wishes to you and your boy friend
Good job Lucie you peeled the coconut quite well and Lahiru kissed you later Awwww!!!! God Bless You Both❤️❤️
Clay pots, have to be washed with no soap, because soap will abaorb into the clay : but with firewood ash, salt, vinegar, turmeric, tambourine, goraka : that's one of these.hot water, normal water.
That food looks so delicious my mouth is salivating!
great cooking Lucie you are doing really good you will be an amazing traditional cook very soon love your attitude,
When chilli fry use salted water ,chilli add salted water and leve one hour or more then fry some times we add chilli in to salted water bottle use it after many days.
You're so inspiring. I just love your videos:)
Your sinhala speaking reminds me how beautiful the sinhalese words are "looking very සරාගී today". ❤️ that is a beautiful sentence 😁
Yes, we barely use those sinhala words nowadays and it is so nice to hear her speaking them.. "saraagi" and " mage adare" ☺️😘♥️
@@damayanthiahangama9082 yeah that is true. so heart warming 🧡🧡
Lol😂🙌🏼🔥

Ohhh by the way my dear sis...you should add salt at last after like finishing the whole cooking process....the reason is...the iodine in salt is gonna get destroyed if it caught lot of heat...things that cintains vitamins and minerals...should be added at last bcz of that reason...btw you did and amazing job and am sooo proud of you....💜️.

sis, husk of coconut has a strong dark colourant that cannot be washed away ones it is on your cloth... keep that in mind when dealing with coconut. lahiru may call it kahata 😃
Good luck guys!!
Licie there are coconut scrapers you can attach to table top so you can easily stand n scrape or buy a coconut scraper with bench so you can sit down n scrape
Happy for you guys

the jackfruit latex can be cleaned off easily using vegetable oil , or cover hands and utensils with oil and its hard for the latex to stick too

You are such a loving person Lucie! You and Lahiru make a wonderful couple!! The food looked amazing! Well done! Wishes from a Sri Lankan living in New Zealand
Good on you guys, I am a srilankan. My favourite food you are cooking. So yum 😋
Wow I love the background music in today's video❤🥰
Well done Lucie all the dishes look delicious.
When the jackfruit is baby stage it’s called Polos. It’s nutty flavour when it’s cook , you can cook the big jackfruit before it ripe that’s the jackfruit curry ‘ kos curry’ which is more creamy in taste
Everything looks delicious ❤😍
I really enjoy your video's it's really awesome to see how both of you as a team u do everything that's really great for other's too.. 👍
You are doing a great work lucie....i love both of you
look at you opening that coconut up!!! you go girl
Be aware about the stain from coconut skin and also from jackfruit stain..it's hard to get rif of the stain .if it touches with clothes
thats quite a cooking show! 😁😁 I super enjoyed to seeing your coooking, specially the prepwork of getting coconut dehusking. Usually no any sri lankan woman can do that but on your second attempt you nailed it🤛. Love goes to both you and lahiru! also get it little ergonomically improved your coconut scraper by fixing it to a table of desk so you dont need to stay at crawling stance for coconut scraping. 😍
I’m craving rice and curry now. Good job guys. Striving to be sustainable like you😃🤗
You can also cook white jackfruit curry (Kos curry) with slightly ripe jackfruits
Oh lucie,i felt sorry when i see how difficult is it to learn cooking ❤️but appreciate your effort...love from 🇱🇰
Gurl you should do more of those cooking videos so I can learn too 😂☺️
Well guys im not gonna lie you guys are sooo cute .Im in love with u guys. And that boy is definetely the one of the best man i ever saw..The love and kindness he shiw towards you is incredible.Good luck for ur journey
For your first time, it's looking pretty good. Lahiru is awesome!
Jackfruit Curry prep: you have to have used cooking oil to latex out of ur hands and the knife. Better to use a pair of gloves. Loads of old news papers keep the fruit when cutting...soak a small piece of news paper and apply on knife as well as on the fruit to take off the latex.... Apply oil on the knife before use it. always use used cooking oil (after frying anything like papadams)...this is the way of recycling of used cooking oil..I collect the used oil in a big bottle or plastic bottle with named as "Used cooking oil" Good luck ...
So happy to see a foreigner trying out a very special and a super delicious curry which is polas curry... lahiru is a very supportive partner!
Our wish is to give love to the young couple who are enjoying a simple life full of ❤️
Lucie..you’re such a loving person
Well done!!!
