I'm still trying to decide becoming a member but the reviews of people complaining about it's very hard and difficult to cancel a NordVPN subscription is holding me off
So, I got NordVPN for my trip to China. I had used Express VPN on previous trips but I noticed that NordVPN advertised itself as better for China. When I got to China I never could connect. I finally canceled my subscription. The service rep asked why I wanted to cancel and I said because I'm in China and it doesn't work. The rep said there is a special setup for China and went on to describe a quite lengthy procedure that frankly was beyond my scope and too much trouble. It would have been nice if Nord had advertised the special requirements for China and maybe had a tutorial for it or if the rep had offered to walk me through the procedure.

They clarified that there was no need to use an extension in my browser if I already had installed thee VPN on my PC (as some forums had suggested using both!). I also asked them a question related to uTorrent. This was their reply: "Additionally, we recommend using the qBitTorrent application set up with these settings: 1. Go to Tools>Options>Connection click on Listening port "Random" 2. Set the Global maximum number of connections to 125 and Maximum number of connections per torrent to 25. " I included the above for (1) information, and (2) for "evidence" that they provide more than just a form letter!

Well, there's a lot of different troubleshooting things you can do here. First, make sure your streaming box is connected to the fastest available WiFi network (i.e. 5Ghz instead of 2.4). Next, I would switch to different VPN servers or even different connection protocols if that's an option on your box. Just keep playing with the settings to find what works.
Good tutorial but I wouldn't recommend uninstalling the mobile client once the VPN is set up since many advanced features are available in the app set up menu which provide additional protections.
VPN NOOB question. Do I have to turn off NordVPN P2P before using the internet like normal? I 've noticed that I can't use my homepage and my controls on CZcams have disappeared (time counter. time bar missing. Only pause will work.

+caleb2003 Great question. The NordVPN phone app was useful for its purpose - setting up the VPN connections on the phone. After that, I just deleted the app because it was no longer of use. The computer app, on the other hand, is probably one of the better ones I've seen. Very intuitive but also very customizable for the advanced user.

Hmm...not sure how that's the most interesting part. Each download is meant for a specific operating system and allows you to either use their software or to download the server configuration files separately.

?? Not sure of your question, being EVERYONE has a wifi that they have to sign-into with a password. A VPN service is different, it encrypts your info when browsing. It is a protection that many companies, government and other securities use. In my opinion it's a must if you have a cell phone and walk into a public wifi such as Starbuck's or any major Store and you use their internet.
A VPN can do two things for you here. First, a VPN will help whenever you connect to a wifi outside of your home or work (like an airport, coffee shop, etc.). Second, a VPN will secure your data through your ISP (Internet Service Provider), which can be a big plus.

Great tutorial. There is one question that I cannot seem to find an answer for. Apparently you can connect up to 6 devices with one NordVPN account. Say I have used up all 6 devices with NordVPN and then I lose one of the devices (e.g. mobile phone). Is it possible to then install it on a new device even though it still exists on the lost device? i live in the usa and constantly have to connect and disconnect to Canadian servers to use amazon, especially to achieve a decent dl speed, you know browsing. I then have to disconnect and reconnect to servers in the 720's (usa servers) to us netflix. I have callled amazon and i have spoken with nord. nord say its amazon, amazon say we don't restrict vpn access. so....

Nord does not work with my new Android 11 TV box. I have been working with Nord for two weeks trying to solve this problem. They have given up. I am stuck with ten more months of a three year subscription with Nord. I have tried two other major VPN providers offering free trial periods and they work just fine. This is definitely a Nord issue. With the recent Nord hacking episode going on, as well, probably best to avoid them altogether. If you must use Nord (?), limit your exposure to the shortest time possible as things change a lot in a few months, let alone three years. Best of luck out there!

The app is just a means to set up the VPN configuration in the settings. Things have changed since this tutorial was filmed and I find the app has more value than it used to, but the truth is that you can turn the VPN on and off through the settings app on your phone - you don't need the app in many cases.

Not every feature is available on every platform. I don't know for sure (you might want to ask them directly), but they might not offer a kill switch for Firestick apps.
Good video but it assumes you already have an Internet connection, right? I would like to see you walk through initiating the VPN over a FREE Internet connection (like at an airport or hotel). I assume that once you connect to the free Internet, you are vulnerable to eavesdropping and attack up until the point of logging into the NORDVPN client. Am I correct? I am more interested in using a VPN client for protection on unsecured (free) Wi-Fi than for hiding my browsing activities. Any advice you can give would be most helpful. Thank you.
There's no difference, Michael. A VPN connects over any internet connection - home internet, free internet, whatever. It works exactly the same and protects you in all cases.
Switched to from ExpressVPN to NordVPN last fall because it was much less expensive, and looked like comparable features. Found out the old saying applies here: you get what you pay for. Installing on Linux took about an hour and a half in chat with one of their technical support people. I’m very experienced using Linux. Recently, I have tried to reach support through their online chat. Wait for over an hour, no one joins in. Sent an email to support. No reply. When doing a DNS server query to check for DNS leaks, a list of DNS servers currently used by my system is shown. But there is no way to know if those belong to NordVPN or someone else. I do not recommend their service. Unfortunately, I signed up for the 2 year plan. I requested to cancel my subscription and refund the balance. No response. Just know what you’re getting into with them.
A lot of the advanced features in the software update are located a few clicks in. You'll need to find the "Advanced" button for certain features as well as click into the servers to learn more about server load.
We o not have an APPLICATIONS FOLDER so I told Nord/ Selected that the download land on my desktop....... YET ... Im unable to reach the screen that indicates the maps
i have a question that may be silly, but i really want to know.. im on my main pc, which is connected via ethernet, and has nordvpn, connected to server.. its protected.. my reason for using this is mainly privacy and dont want to be spied on. my fiance gets on the net via wifi on the xbox one... which is NOT on vpn.. her using wifi will not expose my true ip or identity to whatever im doing on my MAIN pc right? like downloading a torrent.. honestly i dont do that anymore, have not for years, but just in case. i would venture to say no but want to make sure

No, unfortunately not. It will only cover your computer. You would need to install it on your router in order for everything else in your house to be covered. It's possible but a bit harder to do.
I have installed a NordVPN on my tv for amazon fire stick but my iptv will not allow me to use it. I saw that you can set the IPVanishVPN in a way that it will allow you use your amazon fire stick. Do you know how I can set to allow me use selected programs
Hi do you just connect to the servers using the applications and use the internet as you would normally would . i am using google chrome most of the time do you recommend me to go in cognito mode so my ISP wouldn't know i am using a VPN
It's possible to download a Chrome extension, but that's really unnecessary. If you use the application on your computer, you have the option to choose your server and it will protect you no matter what program you're using.
So I watched both your videos on express and nord vpn. I am an american living over seas and basically need a vpn for my kids to watch their cartoons shows. Is it easier to setup apple tv with Nord or Express VPN?
I've use both (as in, I have an active subscription to both and I live as an expat in Asia) so I don't think you can go wrong either way. For Apple TV, I've found ExpressVPN has a better router app setup and/or SmartDNS option that can work.

Hey Joseph, great question. NordVPN has updated the software since I recorded this, but thankfully not all is lost. If you look on the upper-right hand corner you'll still see a magnifying glass. Click that and you'll get the search bar you're looking for. The more options can be found under "Settings" and then click on "Advanced Settings". Hope that helps!

Will getting vpn affect other devices on your WiFi network? My landlords for example. It’s his WiFi.

Yes, it is. But in addition to a VPN you'll also have to get access to one of the major networks (ESPN, ABC, CBS, etc.).

No, you don't have to use a specific browser. Once you connect, your entire device connection is secured.

Wait if you can uninstall the app after adding the VPN’s to your phone, does that mean that they’re free forever since you don’t have the app anymore?
Why dont you use it with a Tomato/dd-wrt router or a FW like pfSense or Opnsense? That would be a great tutorial.

There's no difference, Michael. A VPN connects over any internet connection - home internet, free internet, whatever. It works exactly the same and protects you in all cases.
Switched to from ExpressVPN to NordVPN last fall because it was much less expensive, and looked like comparable features. Found out the old saying applies here: you get what you pay for. Installing on Linux took about an hour and a half in chat with one of their technical support people. I’m very experienced using Linux. Recently, I have tried to reach support through their online chat. Wait for over an hour, no one joins in. Sent an email to support. No reply. When doing a DNS server query to check for DNS leaks, a list of DNS servers currently used by my system is shown. But there is no way to know if those belong to NordVPN or someone else. I do not recommend their service. Unfortunately, I signed up for the 2 year plan. I requested to cancel my subscription and refund the balance. No response. Just know what you’re getting into with them.
whenever I connect to the Vpn services i don't get any bandwidths and Internet connection how should I solve this problem ?
A lot of the advanced features in the software update are located a few clicks in. You'll need to find the "Advanced" button for certain features as well as click into the servers to learn more about server load.
We o not have an APPLICATIONS FOLDER so I told Nord/ Selected that the download land on my desktop....... YET ... Im unable to reach the screen that indicates the maps

i have a question that may be silly, but i really want to know.. im on my main pc, which is connected via ethernet, and has nordvpn, connected to server.. its protected.. my reason for using this is mainly privacy and dont want to be spied on. my fiance gets on the net via wifi on the xbox one... which is NOT on vpn.. her using wifi will not expose my true ip or identity to whatever im doing on my MAIN pc right? like downloading a torrent.. honestly i dont do that anymore, have not for years, but just in case. i would venture to say no but want to make sure
Each device has it's own IP address. Your fiance getting on the Xbox will not reveal your main computer IP address since they are different.

Yes, you can choose a specific city now if you like.
I wish my set up was this easy. I just get a No readable connection profiles found. I have to go to Github and download some files and install them into my VPN config? What in the world am I getting into haha

@@AllThingsSecured So I was actually being a bit too fast to type this haha. I reviewed my process and when I clicked the download I hit a third party link for windows 10 and not the standard windows 10 Nord Download. Looks like today I am the PEBCAK issue =( haha
Looks good. Maybe a bum question but - if I install this on my laptop will all things in my house be covered from the laptop with this. I mean that I use a router so will my T.V. also get protected by this VPN
No, unfortunately not. It will only cover your computer. You would need to install it on your router in order for everything else in your house to be covered. It's possible but a bit harder to do.

I have installed a NordVPN on my tv for amazon fire stick but my iptv will not allow me to use it. I saw that you can set the IPVanishVPN in a way that it will allow you use your amazon fire stick. Do you know how I can set to allow me use selected programs

Hi do you just connect to the servers using the applications and use the internet as you would normally would . i am using google chrome most of the time do you recommend me to go in cognito mode so my ISP wouldn't know i am using a VPN
It's possible to download a Chrome extension, but that's really unnecessary. If you use the application on your computer, you have the option to choose your server and it will protect you no matter what program you're using.

So I watched both your videos on express and nord vpn. I am an american living over seas and basically need a vpn for my kids to watch their cartoons shows. Is it easier to setup apple tv with Nord or Express VPN?
I've use both (as in, I have an active subscription to both and I live as an expat in Asia) so I don't think you can go wrong either way. For Apple TV, I've found ExpressVPN has a better router app setup and/or SmartDNS option that can work.

Josh, purchased Nord in April 2017 and my version is 6.4.8.0 and it says latest version. Your version in the video appears to have a little more info ,why ? Mine does not have the search bar which is nice feature for one, plus more options. Thanks
Hey Joseph, great question. NordVPN has updated the software since I recorded this, but thankfully not all is lost. If you look on the upper-right hand corner you'll still see a magnifying glass. Click that and you'll get the search bar you're looking for. The more options can be found under "Settings" and then click on "Advanced Settings". Hope that helps!
