Wonderful video.
I'd just like to add, you can take a cutting, sheer the bottom, stick it in a fresh bottle of water, put it in the window seal, forget about it... and then plant it when you see roots.
Great idea Cheers Ray
From North Carolina USA ..... I'm glad to learn a better way to propagate Wisteria. Thank you!
Very Clear and concise explanation of propogating wisteria. Using your procedure I planted 6 small cuttings this afternoon. Thank You.
Glad it was helpful! Cheers Ray
how long do you have to keep the plastic bags over the cutting. Some have dropped their leaves leaving just a stem. I think some of the stems are dead. They appear to be brown. Good news is 3 of my cuttings look like they are thriving. Thank You.
Did you have luck with any of your plantings?
@@ms.creepylee the website seemed promising. I was excited because the demo was very clear and believable. I tried so many times, followed the instructions and all I ended up were dead twigs. I was so disappointed. I hope you have better luck. My mother started a beautiful wisteria plant which bloomed and grew to a sizable tree from one cutting. I failed to ask her how she did it before she passed away. Sad face.
@@akemiuchiyama7801❤
I walk by a beautiful wisteria everyday and hadn't noticed it until the scent hit my nose today. Just gorgeous and am excited to try this propagation method out
Many thanks from New Zealand 🇳🇿 😊
Most wisterias are high up and unable to smell the fragrance. I willbhave to have a smell once mine produce again Cheers Ray
I've had my wisteria planted in the ground this is the 4th yr now its pretty high I'd say about 10 ft I have yet to see any flowers on it its getting morning sun some afternoon sun too infront of my house in Pennsylvania can anyone tell me what can I do to make it flower? Thank you
Is there an update video? :)
I just cut them and stick them in the pot they root easily enough, I had some break off from the root ball when I attempted to transfer them too a larger pot I thought I damaged it but I didn't panic i just covered the root ball and the broken stems in the dirt and after a few weeks it started showing new growth and the stems also rooted now I have a huge wisteria in a container....its hard to kill a wisteria.....
Thank you that seemed to have worked well Cheers Ray ✅🌸🥕
Favorite part: “we take our snips, and we just go…snip”
Thank you for sharing this with us
I love wisteria ❤
My third year plant was Crazy with flowers . Really lovely cheers Ray
Thank you for a clean video!
Glad it was helpful!
Just planted 22 cuttings from dormitory garden. 😇 Moving to a house in 2 months. Trying to gather plants for the garden without spending a fortune at the shops. Thanks for tips! Hopefully they ll grow. 😎
That's a great idea Cheers Ray
Just be careful with that stuff. Parents planted a single small cutting about 25 years ago. Now it's three feet wide and controls about four acres of forest. It's killed the entire understory and is working on pulling down all the trees in that area. I've never seen a more destructive and invasive plant.
@@themekahippie991 Why did not you control it ? Mine would have buried the house if left to it’s own devices
@@themekahippie991 Of course, you need to take care of your plants ! Prune every 6 months.
@@makaho5300 You won't prune faster than Wisteria spreads its seeds and feelers through the woods. You just have to NEVER allow any part of an invasive species like that around actual topsoil.
Thank you! I’ll try it!
We are in the states, Oklahoma and have a wisteria that is 30 years old and wild. Glad I found your videos.
That's cool
Awesome video, simple and easy to learn, thank you very much.
Thank you
Excellent video!
Thank you for watching - Do you have any Wisteria Cheers Ray
Thanks very much for your help today. I’ve subscribed to your channel because I found it very informative and easy to follow.

Thanks, I’m going to cut my neighbours wisteria tomorrow. 👍

Really good video, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Im moving and took cuttings of mine today in Australia. Super hard to get this plant in the tropics and Im definitely taking some with me, yes, expensive also, thank you.
Good luck!
Thank you!!!!
That’s ok thank you fir watching Cheers Ray ✅🌸🥕
Very nice explanation, Thankyou for the video
Thank you . Wisteria is a lovely plant Cheers Ray ✅🌸🥕
Thank you very much for sharing. That is really very easy. J 🙋🏼♀️
Thank you.bjust been looking at mine today as waiting for a Feb prune
CHEERS Ray
Thank you for this video. I am moving shortly and was really sad to leave my wisteria behind however after watching this video I'm going to try to propagate using all three methods and hopefully will be taking a little wisteria plant to my new home xx
Glad it was helpful!
Quisiera ver una actualización de las glicinias por favor..!! Gracias por el vídeo muy interesante.
Out running this morning and saw a magnicient if somewhat overgrown Wisteria hanging over a side fence. My immediate thought was whether a piece could be propagated and so I tapped it into you tube and you came up. Enjoyed the content of your video and I intend to pop back and ask the owner for a few cuttings and give it a go. 👍🏾👍🏾
Definitely worth a try Cheers Ray 🍅🧅🌽
I bought a Wisteria this year. I'll have to try this.
Be careful where its placed as it will grow big if not looked after Cheers Ray
@@GardeningforBeginners I built an arbour big enough to drive a full sized American Pick-up truck through, for it to grow on...
thank you, your the best!
Cheers Ray
I planted 2 purple ones last year and waiting on my pink and white one that i ordered ill have it in may
Great
I just took my first cutting! I’m going to try the water cup method initially since I’ve never done it. Maybe I’ll give the soil method too! I’d love to know how those cuttings took 😊
Thank u
No problem
Our neighbour just took away their wisteria they were growing on the back fence today. I managed to find a cutting that dropped into our garden and hope to propagate a couple of side shoots.
The piece I have has a mature branch, wondering if I can propagate that for a quicker way to create a bonsai wisteria.
I'll see what I can salvage from the branch as there's many new shoots with leaves as well.
Many thanks for this video 🙂
Worth having a go at the cuttings . Good Luck Cheers Ray ✅🌸🥕
Hi, its been 2 years and I'm curious if you had luck with planting the branch. I have a branch too but i don't want to cut it up if i can plant the whole thing
Hi. Thank you for this wonderful video. I've just stumbled on a pink variety and wanted to take a clipping and reproduce it. Your video came just in time. Thanks again. Cheers.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your video! It is September in Michigan. Will the cuttings root and over winter indoors to be transplanted in the spring?
Going to try your wisteria propagation.🤞
Have fun
never realised it was so easy to take cuttings so never did any but will be doing this when my wisteria starts growing again, how long do they take to root? thankyou
Love it, what kind of strike rate did you get and would change anything?
Thanks so much
You're welcome! Cheers Ray
Gardening Quick Tips I did my cutting and planting today hopefully some will take👍
thank you, will let you know how it goes
Please fo that would be great Cheers Ray
Thank you! I really want to try this, as they're really expensive here. But what's the best time to take the cuttings? It looks like late Summer, after the flowers have wilted?
An old country lot that’s been abandoned for years is covered with wisteria. Some white but mostly purple. Over time they have developed into a beautiful variegated wisteria. The lot is now for sale so I want to try to capture some of the variegated before the lot is razed. Honestly- you can barely walk the lot for the wisteria popping up everywhere and the trees are covered-not sure they will ever get rid of it . It’s so beautiful it would be a crime to destroy. Your video was very helpful and I’m off to start some cuttings!
Wisteria is a bit of a thug and not pruned it will tale over and kill trees and destroy house footings. Good luck with the xurring Cheers Ray
The buyers should buy the lot for the wisteria only. It's near impossible to distroy. You would basically have to dig it up, deep holes and carefully sift through the dirt to get every piece of root out of the ground. No ones gonna take the time to do that.
When my husband bought his house he tried everything to kill his & every year it came back with a vengeance. The last gardeners chopped it down to the ground and poisoned it, and said it wont ever come back. And it came back like nothing happened.
We got married & I finally convinced him to leave the wisteria alone. I showed him how beautiful a neighbor's wisteria is when in bloom.
He never gave his a chance to bloom to see it's beauty. He didn't know what a jewel it really is.
Hi iv just watched your video on whisteria cutting iv just taken 3 myself just to try it I hope it works thank you PS love your channel
Yes worth a try. My wisteria needs a summer prine but just come out in flower
Cool! How often do I have to water them? Thanks
My experience with Wisteria is that it propagates itself just fine and needs no help. The area where my mother grew up is covered with it. It grows to the very tops of the trees. Some places you can see it for miles on both sides of the road. I hit the like button my friend 👍😊
Thank you - i may agree its quite a big growing vine Cheers Ray
I was glad to see this technique. I can now go get some cuttings from an old plant and grow my own Wisteria on my farm.
Awesome, love your style, very easy to follow, I love Wisteria but as mentioned it’s so expensive in the shops even if you can find it, so propagation I feel is a good economic way to go, best wishes from New Zealand, Rich
Thank you for watching. That's very kind Cheers ray
So, I’ve tried for the last two years to grown some cuttings, this is the first year I’ve had some success, a bit of patience and care has paid off and I have some beautiful roots 😊 I guess my next question is what sort of care do I give my cuttings now that Autumn is on its way…still keep in their bags and regular watering till next Spring? Thanks Ray ❤
What happens to the clones in winter? (I live in southern Ontario)
Great video . But need to buy plant first
That was very informative, thanks. BTW I have the same snips but mine are so blunt they wouldn’t scrape butter.
Glad it helped Cheers Ray
I cut hard wood cuttings and they easily made... but I'm going to try some like this 😊
That's great cheers Ray
Wonderful video with very clear video with voice and zooming in to the cuttings. Can we grow this in a pot ? to keep/ meantain the growing control the size ???? thank you
Yes you can! maybe a large pot and it wont grow so crazy Cheers Ray
I have 3 wisteria plants of 3 different colours, I need to plant them out at the back of my garden!
Just be careful where you plant them. Think about 3-4 years time if you still want them there as they can grow big even after a few years.
Been trying for some years now to grow cuttings from Wisteria, going to try your way now.... zone 7
We wish you good success. Please let us know the results Cheers Ray 🌱🍅🌷
@@GardeningforBeginners Trying it now, will let you know.. White Wisteria
Love the wisteria tips , they cost a fortune to buy in the shop !
They are very expensive especially as they don’t really get fleeting fir two to three years after planting cheers Ray
What kind of bags did you use?
I just cut the flowers & stems off of a friends Wisteria bush…. I should’ve maybe watched a video first but it just happened unexpectedly so here I am trying to figure out how to keep these flowers alive & how to grow more 😅
Thank you for helping me, sir. God bless you and yours. Do you do honeysuckle the same?
Thank you. I dont have any honeysuckle but maybe worth a try Cheers Ray
@@GardeningforBeginners , thank you sir. I am grateful for your help, and thank you for creating this show.
I’m going to try these methods so that get a lot of wisteria.
Yes give it a go and let me know if you have any success Cheers Ray
Grate video! How long does it take to bloom from cuttings?
Years lol but it's worth it. Time isn't real
Thank you. I always used the soft, new branches and that never worked.
Glad to help
About how long dose it take to root?
I see the cuttings upside down ,is it me or is it the way to do it, or does is matter not. Thank you
Great video. Is it too late in the season to take Wisteria cuttings now? Just seen your video.
Softwood cutting of the wisteria plant in spring through midsummer; cut a section of the new growth tips that includes several leaf sets. Remove the lower two sets of leaves from the cutting. Alternatively, you can take a hardwood cutting in winter, but softwood cuttings tend to be easier to root
Wanted a Wysteria for a while. Saw one in Aldi for £18, then I thought, ooh, a friend has a lovely smelling ,well established one in her hedgerow. So today, when we go round the pony paddock, I'll nip some cuttings and try a couple of each method. I might even ask if I can air layer a bit. Thank you for the inflammation.😂
I have a wisteria from my grandmothers house in SC that has been planted in the corner of my yard that gets morning sun only (Live in DFW,zne 8) and it grows like crazy, but in 18 years it hasn't bloomed, and it used to bloom at her house my entire childhood. The original plant was planted in 45, ideas?
Maybe to do with pruning if it has not been pruned it may not flower 🌹
It needs a lot of sun to flower. Won’t flower if it gets limited hours of sun.
For how long have the bags to be covering the wisteria? Thanks for the video!
The plastic helps to hold in humidity, which increases the success rate of propagating wisteria from cuttings. So upto 3 to 4 weeks the roots should root.
@@GardeningforBeginners great thank you! May I ask the last question? Do I have to put more water during this 3-4 weeks? Thanks!
How often would you water the cuttings? This is my 2nd attempt at taking cuttings from wisteria. The first was very unsuccessful!
My cuttings get water every time the garden gets watered which is most days Cheers Ray
How long will this method take to flower?
Would you recommend watering cuttings that have rooted from the bottom or the top? I have my cuttings growing in an 8oz clear cups. I am currently watering them from the bottom and only let about the first two bottom inches of the dirt in the cup get saturated. So far they are doing pretty well but I am wondering if this is the best way to water or if i am not watering them enough. Once i notice that the soil is about to dry out I repeat the process.
Great bit of advice Cheers Ray
I have a large purple wisteria that was here when I bought the house 17 yrs ago, I love it but my husband is always cutting it back afraid it will take over the yard,I have it growing in full texas sun. I planted another about 2yrs ago but it is not growing super fast and has yet to bloom ,it is mostly shaded area do you think this maybe slowing the growth? Does all the cutting back keep them from flowering? Loved your tips I am going outside right now to get some cuttings of both plants to give the propagation a chance. Thank you!!
We have a video on pruning wisteria czcams.com/video/rnRUBobH4Xk/video.html
Thanks for the great video!! My question is, can all these cuttings be used to start new plants as you have showen in your previous video?
Thanks Jim
Fancy Girl - Trim them up but don’t prune all the way down every year. They will not bloom if you do that.
@@cyang7850 thank you I appreciate the information ♡
Yes, your husband is to blame for it not blooming. My husband does the same. Every year he has the gardener chop it down for the same reasons.
I finally convinced him to let it grow. I told him now after several years of chopping it down he should know he can't kill it. So let it grow. I showed him how beautiful the neighbor's is in bloom. And I told him we just need to train it where to grow because the original home owners planted it near a patio trellis to grow over.
I think it needs at least 2 years of letting it grow (some hardwood) before we will see ours flower.
it roots well in water?
That's a idea for future Cheers Rsy
Can you reply to my question please.. About how long will it take to root??
The cuttings should take 4 to 6 weeks to develop roots Cheers Ray 🌱🍅🌷
@@GardeningforBeginners Thank you very much
@@GardeningforBeginners Never did work

No sorry its Ray Cheers
@@GardeningforBeginners You're a dead ringer for Mr. Gilmour. All you need is a Stratocaster. Great video! Started my cuttings yesterday.
