I think it’s about 30 years too late, but still better than nothing.
The cop held that girl accountable for the theft in a very respectful kind way. It apparent she has some mental health issues & perhaps IQ deficiencies. I can hear the cop's concern for the girl, her drug use & homeless status. He expressed his desire she get help as she seems to be a regular offender & when she is set up with help she lacks follow through or just resumes her drug use & the chaos that comes from it. This girl has a poor prognosis without some long-term, structured & mandated treatment. KUDOS to the cop & perhaps in the future when he sees her again & converses with her, she will hear something he says that will cause her to make changes.
That officer was so kind and compassionate towards that lady! He said "I won't you off the streets, stop doing drugs" 👏👏 Very very well done!!

That was probably a beautiful neighbourhood in the 1950-70’s. Some of the houses are still taken care of, but not many.
Yes, there are some that are mansions, enormous, now all dilapidated or boarded up. There are good people that keep their homes up, but lots of crime.
I was thinking the same thing! Imagine the children playing and bikes in a pile at the bottom of driveways. Obviously I am thinking of the same timeframe as you, 1950s-70s.
It was! I'm 54 and my aunt & uncle had a GORGEOUS house in Westgate Park back in the 1970s. I used to love going over there. The actual park was nice, too. The pond would freeze up in the Winter and everybody would go ice skating. They sold their house and moved out to Galloway in 1980.

Being on a first name basis it is obvious she has dealt with the Columbus police often. What is also obvious is her calm demeanour when being dealt with. She knows even though she is in trouble again, she is safe. When you told her to walk with you and return the stolen item with an apology she instantly complied without a fuss. Hopefully she listens to the concern you give to her about what she is doing to her life and looks for help one day.

This is great police work, Ben. It is far more meaningful in the event of a $3 item stolen by a person with mental health issues/drug addiction to face the person and apologize. There has to be some consequence, but it's hardly worth the paperwork, etc. It does both people good. The person who stole and the person who had their item taken. Well done.
As for the crack pipe charge, that was needed too. The officer who wrote the charge up was very kind to her in offering her help. I wonder if she doesn't have underlying mental health issues and totally understands what "help" means?

I've been so impressed with the Columbus police department! These officers seem compassionate and fair. Kind of like the police we used to hear about in the olden days, the good ones. Massive respect!
People complaining about continuous thefts but wont press charges..in the end its probably better for the officers, they go through the motions and have to spend time writing reports just so the courts can do nothing!
The DA would drop all the charges anyway so who cares? The only way it can stop is if things get bad enough that people will stop voting for liberals.
Officer says he needs to get his steps in. All the equipment you all wear ain't light, and tactical is much worse. Them hot days are coming too.

I wish we had cops this helpful, who genuinely want to help drug addicts in my city. I probably would've gotten sober & off the streets sooner had one of the many cops I ran into offered up resources instead of an attitude.

A couple of weeks ago, I turned from Sullivant onto Demorest, and a black car pulled right out almost hitting us in the drivers side door. I keep going, and this car gets right up on my tail. So I'm looking in the rear view mirror, and I see the passenger flashing a hand gun at me. Eventually, the driver sped past me in the turn lane and headed west on Eakin. He crossed Briggs in front of us on Wedgewood, and the two cruisers sitting at the intersection took off after it. It turns out the car was a stolen Kia.

Dear genius: The people who were stolen from didn't even know that their car was stolen from. It was the neighbors who called the cops on the woman, but it was the victims who were asked if they want to press charges because they were the ones wronged. Even IF they had been the ones to call in themselves, it would have been to ascertain that none of their items were actually taken. So "????" to you, too. Pay attention next time.
@@Veldrusarait doesn’t matter if nothing was stolen, the car was still broken into. If they don’t press charges it will keep happening. My cousins daughter has a Kia suv, it has been attempted stolen 3xs before they actually took it and ran it into the ground for a week. Ended up needing tires, brakes, steering column replaced, window replaced and then have Kia put anti theft on it. Her car getting stolen costs her $2,500 plus the cost of a rental for two weeks.
