    I remember ages ago you were saying you wanted to start a business, but hadn't thought of anything. Have you thought of doing babywear? As your saying your having difficulties finding what you want, so perhaps you could make the perfect product yourself!

    Lol I loved the hair adjustment at the end. It's true going on holiday with a baby isn't a holiday. It's just travelling with a baby. But the more you do it the better you get at it ♥️

  • @kbbels
    @kbbels Před 5 lety +22

    Moms, you can also travel with minimal baby gear. Lol, the 1st baby you travel with you take EVERY thing, but by the time you travel to several countries with 3 kids under 4, your attitudes and packing items completely change. Just do you, your baby will be fine and moms are famous for improvising just fine, and most babies and young kids are quick to adapt. Take that one toy, movie, or blanket they love, a carseat if you must, but between myself and my husband, we found wearing our youngest two gave us the freedom to stroll through older cities with cobblestones and often only get in a car to and from the airport. Hot water, boiling hot, kills germs. Alcohol wipes used for first aid applied to the bottom of their feet or legs cools them off quickly, the same method used to cool down an overheated dog on his paw pads, and they're tiny...fits in pocket, and can be used to wipe things before using boiling water.
    But please note, Lily is giving you amazing feedback, especially if you're an anxious new mom and maybe going to be travelling via car often once at your destination. Her analysis of her experience is very informative with great tips. I just want moms to know you don't have to panic if you forget something. Just improvise and have FUN, they grow up so fast.

      kbbels I agree about everything. I went on holidays with my daughter when she was 4 months with a carry-on and we were ok.
      But I like hearing other people’s experiences anyway

    • @lilypebbles
      @lilypebbles  Před 5 lety +7

      kbbels thanks for your comment, mainly thank you for being so constructive and polite - this could have easily been written in a rude and hateful way, so I appreciate it.
      I do agree. Everyone needs to just do what feels right for them. Compared to some of my friends, I’m minimal 😂 We all just have to do what’s right for our families x

    • @kbbels
      @kbbels Před 5 lety +5

      @@lilypebbles I wasn't trying to be critical, I just read a few comments about your baby items being higher end, which many of the sturdy good quality items, that will survive being passed down to your next 2 or 3 babies, tend to be. I just wanted those moms to know they can have an equally great trip wity less items, or moms not to panic if you forget something.
      Our first few long trips out of the US, looked very similar to what your experience showed. With one baby it was a bit easier but if you have two young ones you start slowly taking less and improvising, or do the minimum maybe based on location of destination and the amenities.
      I don't have very little ones anymore but I still love watching your videos.
      I wasn't trying to come off rude or judgemental, it's hard to always properly convey your meaning in the comment section.
      I mainly want all moms to know, especially new moms, that it's ok if your budget is smaller or you decide to take less. We should all have one common goal, and that's to build amazing lasting memories with our families. Don't stress or fell less if your budget is smaller, it won't take away from your memories.
      I hope you understand my comment wasn't directly towards your video. My heart hurt for the moms who felt higher end items couldn't be replaced by what their budgets can afford. All they needed to do was replace suggested items with those that fit their budgets.

    I just came back from holiday with my 8 month old. It was her first flight (long haul of 8.5 hours) and needless to say I was stressed, mainly because I was traveling alone. I over packed my carry on on the first flight and didnt need half of what I packed. Biggest tip I can give is to relax. Babies can pick up on your emotions, so if your feeling stressed they will too. Second, book a night flight for long haul flights. Lastly, reserve the bassinet with your airline carrier, especially when traveling alone. I can't tell you how helpful it was to be able to put her down so I could eat, sleep etc.

  • @surlespasdondine
    @surlespasdondine Před 5 lety +28

    We travelled around Europe for 3 weeks with our car when my first was 2 months and a half. It was VERY scary and stressful also because I had undiagnosed postpartum depression - which the trip made me help realize btw.
    I think it all depends on the baby. My sister had a baby who never cried, she fed every few hours, fell asleep in-between, would sleep anywhere etc. A dream. Those are the people who tell you the newborn stage is easy lol
    Mine on the other hand screamed for hours, sometimes wouldn't fall asleep for hours (not all newborns "sleep all the time" as people want to make you believe) during the day, always had to be carried (but not worn, only in my arms)
    Even packing for the holidays was a taxing task because I could never put her down.
    I would still recommend travelling with small babies, we had a lot of great experiences, but I remember a moment when we were about to go visit family that lives far away when we couldn't take it anymore because we NEVER had a break, neither day or night, always had to eat really quickly, or only one person could eat at a time etc.
    Hearing you talk about travelling with a newborn brought back a lot of stressful memories (screaming in the restaurant, screaming in the car etc.) but also great ones. It was our first big adventure as a family of 3 and I would definitely do it again inspire of all the hurdles.
    I just find it funny when I hear people say newborns are easy to travel with. Yes, if you have an easy newborn sure:)

    Oh how this video takes me back. I remember the first holiday we took post baby. The resort would ferry you to your room on a golf cart. Only we had two golf carts - the second loaded up with baby paraphernalia. It was super stressful but it is essential to continue your love of holidays and travel. It truly does get easier.

    After hearing you talk about the window shades again I feel like I have to share the old skool way with which I grew up: muslin cloths! Open the carwindow a little bit, put a few centimetres of the top of the cloth outside and close the window. There you have a really easy window shade/tiny curtain! In case you ever forget the windowshade, here is a saver :)

    This was so fun to watch even though my baby is 13! I guess it was nostalgic. My only two cents is that we loved the backpack version of the car seat bag because it was so useful to be hands-free and not off-balance. Also, it would be particularly great for a single parent or anyone doing the travel with no extra adults. Also, I really liked having one of those feeding pillows that wraps around your torso. I used it on the plane, in the airport, etc. I was so used to using it at home that it made me feel secure to stay in our routine. This is one of the very helpful messages in the video, keeping a routine (including gear) will reduce your stress. And, over time, you’ll refine your packing list because you’ll have more experience and your baby’s needs will change. We travelled a lot so I quickly learned what I truly needed. My husband went back to work a lot sooner than I did and I chose to go with him on all of his work trips because traveling with the baby felt less stressful than being home alone without my husband there. It was fun to explore new places during the day when he was working and then all being together at night. Lovely memories although I’m conveniently not remembering the stressful parts!

  • @stephvdm
    @stephvdm Před 5 lety

    Someone told me when my first son was born that travelling (even close by) is so important because you’ll always remember what they were like on a holiday. Eg you will always remember Grey looked a certain way on her first holiday in France. I always remember seeing my son first crawl when we were on a trip to Sydney. Those kinds of things! It has really rung true and helps life not become one big memory blur 😂
    So keep going! It’s so hard and every holiday with kids you wonder WHY did we come here?! And then you return with the best memories.
    X

At this point in time she has no plans to go away again unless it’s without the kids (which she’d happily do) or she’d rather just stay home 😕 You shared some useful tips - thanks Lily xx

    If I'm going to a developed country thwt has supermarkets and drug stores that I can see on google maps, usually I'll check out their reviews as well... I tend to only take enough nappies and wipes to get us through about 48 hours. It's horrendous having to travel w that many nappies. We always travel w our bugaboo bee pram and most of the time they let us take it on the plane bc they think it's a stroller! There is a women's only taxi app called Sheba and if you have children or babies, they have car seats to fit any age child. It was brilliant! And the women who drove them are lovely too! And if you have your husband w you, he is allowed in :)
