- Laurel Falls in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be closing sometime in 2024 for 18 months while repairs to the trail are made. I believe the Parks Service is planning on widening the trail, repaving it, and building a larger observation deck at the waterfall. The trail is 1.3 miles (2.6 miles round-trip) and takes a little over an hour to hike.

That was amazing
Thanks Deborah!
You are a brave man to cross that bridge with that force of water going under it! Beautiful falls. Thanks for the info on the trail.
Hi Rebecca! I was definitely cautious. Raging waters like that always worry me. The video made it look a little worse than it actually was, but it was definitely impressive.
That was truly wicked!! What force those Falls have..I cant get over it..Oh My Goodness!!! As you were aproaching the bridge I was thinking..no its not..but yes you did..walked acrossed it! I think I would of been afraid..thinking that the force of the water would of ripped it to shreds..whew..you are so right..I had never seen the water that high there before either..thats another awesome video Travis!😊 and no..I think I xan speak for everybody..we enjoy when you talk during your videos..your so informative and its very interesting to hear the knowledge you have about our good ole mountains!!! Have a wonderful evening to both of you!😊🙏🐎
Thanks Laney! I really appreciate the kind words. The water level was the highest I had seen. The video made it look worse when I crossed the bridge, but I was definitely cautious doing so. I have another short video posting this week showing the water level difference on the 3 separate times I hiked it. It's very interesting to see the difference.
Thats one of my favorite trails! I hate that it will be closed for so long, but so excited its going to be improved!
Hi Nancy! Agreed. It's needed repairs for a while. Glad those improvements are on the way.
You are a very brave person to cross that bridge. Remember. Don’t mess with Mother Nature
Thanks Amy, but the video makes it look worse. I was VERY cautious. ⚠️ 🙂
It's been crazy here. The fields that they just did controlled burns on last week are pretty wet as well from the rain the past few days.
Hi Kimberly! Yea, the weather has been crazy. Drought last Fall. Snow and 0 degrees a few weeks ago. 60's and heavy rains recently. East TN weather is a roller-coaster ride.
Not sure I would have walked the bridge
I was VERY cautious when I crossed it. That much water is concerning.
I wish they would not do that - the last thing we need is more people - they will change the natural flow that’s terrible
Hi Beverly! I completely understand. I'm torn on this one. Laurel Falls is already the most visited trail/waterfall in the Smokies, and it will only get busier. However, this is the only one that people who have walking issues might have the opportunity to visit. I'll have to wait and see once it's done before I make my final judgment.
