No, the match Bret refers to here would have been around 1991, as he was subbing in for Jake Roberts and that’s when that program happened. The ‘87 match was on SNME, it was when Savage had just turned into a good guy. I always remember that match as the first time you really sympathized with Randy as a good guy, as he was not only fighting Bret in the ring but also Neidhardt and Jimmy Hart out of it, and trying to protect Elizabeth from them, and spent half the match doing this on one leg. To me, this was the match that cemented Savage as a good guy. It was also the first time we really saw Bret featured as a singles guy in a big spotlight match. Watched a lot of wrestling since the 70's but my personal opinion is that a Bret Hart vs Macho Man match is the most athletic, skillful, entertaining, making fake look real (I say this with the greatest of respect and honor to ALL wrestlers) match of any two combatants. My two personal favorites of all the great wrestlers who've entertained us over the years.

Easy matches were the kind where they knew the opponent would not hurt them, where they worked fluidly together, where they could both do anything and the other would be able to handle the style or move.
He must have hurt himself, but that wasn’t the ‘easy’ part. The east part was knowing you and your opponent would have a great match and neither had to worry about being made to look bad or being hurt by the opponent.

DDP has never said they scripted any of their matches and they had the fued of the year. In fact you can listen to him tell the story we’re Arn Anderson asks him right before a match with DDP how he wants it to finish and he says he wants to take the diamond cutter. and Bret's only ever taken 3 clotheslines from Ultimate Warrior (WCW Nitro 1998) - no matches together (aside from Rumble 1988, house show tag team late 1992, and War Games 1998). The Mountie may be the only one who is technically undefeated against The Hitman. There's only a few people Bret never had a match with; King Mabel, the Steiners, Jericho, Regal, Texas Tornado... WCW had the time and chance to do something with Regal vs Hart, like a couple of US Title matches in 1998, - gotta get in those 18 minute NWO promos instead haha !!!
