  • This is an ancient Egyptian prayer from the book of the dead of Amenhotep, regarding chapter 23.
The prayer calls upon the gods to open the mouth of the deceased so they can live again in the afterlife by eating, drinking, etc.
The wooden object was originally made of iron and it was used ritualistically to touch the mouth of the deceased and open the mouth of the spirit. The instrument is know as a Nw, but as it’s function was called the Dua-Wer.
The tool is meant to resemble the constellation of the big dipper, specifically in the area of Ursa Major, where the imperishable gods lived.

Is this your own concoction, or which manuscript does this version come from?

If you took the time to read the description, you would know where it comes from.

Ursa Major makes so much more sense than an Adze ever did, but how can it be described as "Iron"?

The original tool always a foreleg of a cow, and then this tool was modelled after the constellation “the Big Dipper” which never moved from its position or dipped below the horizon

It was originally made of iron and that’s what the ritual requires… But not everybody can afford it so other alternative materials were made

@@EgyptologyLessons I had to do a little studying and it seems Iron was being used much earlier than I thought.
