Yes, it's here! Many comments from my previous DK64 covers etc were asking for this cover and I knew today was the right time to release it! Creepy Castle was one of my lesser favorite levels, mostly because at this point I spent so much time in Fungi Forest and Crystal Caves with their brighter, more welcoming feel. This level is quite dark in terms of mood and lighting, very rainy, and not to mention quite difficult navigating as a kid and figuring out what to do. I will say though, revisiting the music like this has been such a fun experience. The harpsichord part was really fun to play, and all of the string parts were a treat to record and play layer after layer. The piano I recorded on also happened to be the right amount of "out of tune" for the texture I had in mind when putting this video together. Also, you are probably wondering why all of these DK64 tracks are coming out back to back. More on that soon!!

What might be my favorite song from Donkey Kong 64, you covered it brilliantly. I love that there's different variations of it that you covered. Sounds almost exactly like the real game. I'm SO GLAD you did the catacombs part, too. That was my favorite part of the level. I love how dark and messed up sounding it is. The only scarier Grant Kirkhope song is the deep underwater Clanker's Cavern song with the scary strings that sound like super insane water pressure. That deep underwater song is the only one of the N64 Rare game songs that legitimately scared me.
Now i'm in the mood to play Creepy Castle. Great Job Nico!

Right from the beginning that piano sets the tone and the snapping brought this to S tier. Really though your musicianship is impeccable being able to play all those instruments as well as you do. As always well done!

4:01, man... the crypt was THE place that gave me nightmares as a kid. It's not the darkest place of the game for nothing. And you hear- these creepy zombie moans.

I can only imagine that you chose this t-shirt because it's by far the scariest banana and N64 coin to get in the entire game.

Fun Fact: I think that Krosshair actually appears in this level in the greenhouse maze with Lanky if you run out of time.
I still think that those long hallways with walls made of innumerable bones are creepy enough, though, especially with the eerie red lighting. They remind me of those Spanish catacombs where skulls are just piled on top of each other.

@@NicoMendozaMusic Yeah, I hated Beaver Bother, too. But I'd rather play Beaver Bother than that Gloomy Galleon mechanical fish with the lights. I hated that one so much I actually swore at the game a few times after losing (and I rarely lose my cool when losing video games, let alone drop s-bombs or ah-bombs).

This was fantastic for the Halloween season Nico! Loved the harpsichord and what you did with the strings parts. I loved the bit with glissandi on the electric guitar, almost making it like a theremin. And all the different sections really helped it come together to tell a sort of story!

If you pay attention, is the same chords that were used for Mad Monster Mansion from Banjo-Kazooie. Just need to put the main melodic line on top and you'll realize that.

All of the acoustic instruments here are awesome...the qualities of the old-school honkytonk piano (I think that's what it's called), the growling cellos, the wary strings, the nightly glockenspiel, the hollow marimba, and even the acoustic guitar manages to fit very well the way it's used! You also did an excellent job with the tremolo part on the violins. They sound pristine, just shaky enough!
Also, FINALLY someone gives the other versions of this song a remix! They really don't get enough attention for being arguably catchier than the original version. It reminds us of the depth of this level, traversing the spooky haunted library and the eerie dungeons beneath the castle. That last one is actually one of my favorites, and that last chord progression is delightfully interesting, especially for Kirkhope. It's like E minor to G# minor to C minor to E minor again, right? Bizarre stuff that creates a unique form of anticipation at it builds up. It never gets old.
I'm super happy you went all out with this one! I can't think of a more existentially Halloween-ish theme than this one! Overall, amazing work and perfect timing!

Spooky laughing, in the lower caves and catacombs their's groaning. The haunted minecart level i found out later was a throwback to dkc2. But it had the scariest and most dreadful thing the greatest sin this game commits is having 3 beaver bother barrel minigames 😂🤣
Beaver bother is indeed the most frightening element to this game 😭
