The "Maori are the sole indigenous group of New Zealand" meme is a bit weird, because the Maori were the first people to come to New Zealand between 1320 and 1350, and the next people to arrivw were the colonisers in the 1800's.
1700s* but still, thats...?? the Maori are technically the sole indigenous, although i get that i could be called indeginous?? (part maori... but also mostly european and living here for 150+ years so who knows really)
You could say the Mori Ori (PLEASE correct me) are a different group, but were basically offshoots of the maori, and also destroyed and incorporated by the maori and eventually europeans (argued who was worse)
